To refuse to let DD vape?

CoastAndSand · 23/12/2025 23:06

DD (16) wants to vape in her room. We have tried everything for 2 years to get her to stop vaping and she won’t so the rule so far has been no vaping in the house or garden.

DD has asked recently if she can vape in her room. DH thinks it’s fine as long as she has her window open but I don’t agree with him. AIBU? I’m not happy with DD vaping at all, let alone inside the house! What would you do?

It wouldn't bother me but its your house so your choice

fashionqueen0123 · 23/12/2025 23:08

Good grief no. How is she buying them? At 14?!

MumChp · 23/12/2025 23:08

No. I won't have it indoor.

Because i vape in the house. Smoking no as it smells and turns everything yellow but vaping doesn't

Vaping is a hard no for me. And she started at 14! I would not giving in and letting her vape anywhere near the house.

fashionqueen0123 · 23/12/2025 23:19

What are you doing to stop the vaping? Where is she buying them from- have you reported the shop. I would be confiscating any I found too.

TwistedWonder · 23/12/2025 23:20

Absolutely no from me. I don’t allow anyone to smoke or vale in my home let alone a teenager.

YANBU at all

Some shops sell to underage unfortunately.

No. The vaping industry has managed to get millions of teenagers hooked on nicotine, it looks stupid, costing a small fortune and causing a lifelong addiction to nicotine.
People say weed is the gateway drug to addiction, I disagree, nicotine is the gateway drug.
Vaping is great for giving up smoking cigarettes but it is ridiculous that the marketing industry has managed to hook people who never smoked. Grown adults, non smokers, vaping. 🧐

I'm a smoker and I agree with this. They've totally done a number on non smokers and kids, and I don't get it.

suburberphobe · 23/12/2025 23:36

I read just recently that vaping is worse than cigarette smoking.

I smoke.

Better than belching out car fumes. (I use public transport).

Where is she getting her money from?

murasaki · 23/12/2025 23:36

Also those nicotine pouches that apparently 1 in 8 teens have tried sound totally grim.

MeouwKing · 23/12/2025 23:38

Vaping is so sad. Anyone that vapes is a moron.

Yup. And the government has let them do it . Other countries have cracked down on it much quicker. Why does ours always take so long to do anything.

suburberphobe · 23/12/2025 23:39

People say weed is the gateway drug to addiction,

This is such an old-fashioned 60's/70's bullshit argument.

Show me the scientific evidence.

MeouwKing · 23/12/2025 23:39

Vapers are pathetic.

MCF86 · 23/12/2025 23:40

I wouldn't let her. I started vaping to stop smoking and I really wish I hadn't! I certainly wouldn't make it easy for my child to do it.

Good question. Back handers somewhere along the lines and that applies to governments of both political stripes.

I wouldn't be surprised if more teenagers are absorbing nicotine in one form or another now than at any point in the last 40 years.

MeouwKing · 23/12/2025 23:43

I smoked 40 a day for 20 years, read Alan Carr's book and stopped. Vapers are more pathietuc than smokers IMO.

DejaMooo · 23/12/2025 23:45

I vaped for a short while and stopped about a year ago (I previously quit smoking 10 years ago and very stupidly slipped into vaping last year). To me it was sooo much more addictive because I would lie in bed or wherever in the house just constantly on it. It’s so much easier to just constantly use, and I got hooked very fast. For that reason alone I would make her go outside so she has to make the effort to physically get up to use it. It will definitely make her use it less.

TheSmallAssassin · 23/12/2025 23:47

I don't know why anyone would be blasé about it - we have no idea of the long term effects of vaping on health, especially for young people.

The advice is that non-smokers, especially young people, should never use vapes.

MissDoubleU · 23/12/2025 23:48

If she is able to vape in her room then she will be sucking on that thing constantly. Her lungs aren’t even fully developed yet! At least when she has to walk down the street a bit to do it the mild inconvenience will mean it’s less frequent and doing (slightly) less damage to her body.
