or am I being dramatic?

Please be honest if im overreacting. Me and my boyfriend have been together officially for 6 weeks, it's going really well. Yesterday we went out for dinner and I drove us back to mine after. On the way back, he rolled down the window and threw his empty drink can out of my car. As soon as he rolled down the window i knew that was what he was going to and asked / begged him not to as I'm the one who's car it is and I don't want someone posting my car all over the local facebook group saying rubbish is being thrown out of it.

Also it gave me the ick. I find it a bit grim that he couldn't wait 10 mins till we got to my house to throw his rubbish away.

OP posts:
BuckChuckets · 19/12/2025 17:32

Grim. In the bin. (Both him and his rubbish)

EndlessHolidayWashing · 19/12/2025 17:33

Did he say anything or make any comment after you asked him not to do it but he did it anyway?

I absolutely abhor people who litter. This would be a dumping offence for me.

Newbestmate · 19/12/2025 17:34

100% dump him and let him know why

Frogs88 · 19/12/2025 17:35

I would end it over that. Just shows he’s a shitty inconsiderate person.

RaininSummer · 19/12/2025 17:36

Utterly piggish behaviour. I would dump for that as it shows he is thick and has a total disregard for other people and our surroundings.

blueshoes · 19/12/2025 17:36

Your values are diametrically opposed. It won't get better.

It is a lucky escape that he showed his true colours so early.

You are right to bin.

MinglyMadly · 19/12/2025 17:36

Thaimonstera · 19/12/2025 17:08

Yanbu. What kind of arsehole thinks it’s ok to do that?!

Absolutely this.

IdaGlossop · 19/12/2025 17:37

Chuck him - out of the window! Perhaps some other hapless woman will litter-pick him. Low personal standards, poor citizenship, heedless of your wishes expressed in your car. Imagine going to a smart restaurant with him. You'd be wondering about his table manners - drinking his soup from the soup plate, tucking his napkin into the neck of his jumper, chewing with his mouth open, elbows on the table. Easy to blame his parents but he could have worked out for himself how to behave by now.

Chasbots · 19/12/2025 17:39

Yep, in the bin.

I'd have probably done an emergency stop and got him to pick it up with his teeth too.

Hicupping · 19/12/2025 17:40

Seriously, thank him for showing you who he was so early and find someone better. If he has so little thought and consideration for others and to do it in front of you he's not going to be a good partner. Ick ick ick.

GreyBeeplus3 · 19/12/2025 17:40

He didn't listen to a doable request
Bin him

Eyeshadow · 19/12/2025 17:40

YANBU

Throwing it out the car is one thing, but you asked him not to and he still did it - I couldn’t think twice about getting rid.

A guy I was dating did the same.
I thought he was just going to tip the drink out but he threw the entire cup.
I told him I didn’t like it and he never did it again. He would go out of his way to walk to a bin and ask me if I had any rubbish to throw away - of course he did this because he was trying to impress me. Yours isn’t trying to impress you.

I will never understand when people say we’ve been together >6 months and it’s going really well - yes of course it is because you don’t know each other yet and still in the honeymoon phase.

This is his real personality coming out.
Everything you’ve seen before now is just the act he put on.

Chasbots · 19/12/2025 17:40

Tho what's up with the elbows on the table thing? This doesn't equate to manners, it's a whole level worse than lack of ettiquette.

LuxuryWoman2020 · 19/12/2025 17:41

This really isn't a 'tiny' thing. He's an oik, do you really want a litterbug who ignores your requests for a boyfriend?

CraftyPlayer · 19/12/2025 17:41

Nearly50omg · 19/12/2025 17:11

I’d have stopped the car and told him to get out and pick that can up and then driven off when he got out and left him 🤬

This! Me too. Dump him (in the bin).

Eyeshadow · 19/12/2025 17:41

Always judge people on how they treat those beneath them - that includes workers like cleaners and animals/nature.

He has no respect for any of these and he also has no respect for you.

powershowerforanhour · 19/12/2025 17:42

Dirty ignorant bastard. Get rid.

Hadalifeonce · 19/12/2025 17:43

I would have stopped the car and told him to get out and pick it up.

Rainbowcat77 · 19/12/2025 17:45

Oh absolutely, I hate this sort of thing with a passion!
but as others have said it isn’t just the littering it’s that he knew you didn’t want him to do it and went ahead anyway. It wasn’t mindless scruffiness it was deliberate.
Definitely throw this one back.

BotterMon · 19/12/2025 17:47

Disgusting slobby uneducated behaviour. Get rid and be sure to tell him why. Somebody so disrespectful in a new relationship to both you and the planet will only get worse.

Being dumped over it may teach him a lesson - we can but hope.

HighlyUnusual · 19/12/2025 17:49

I pick up litter in my local area, so would be completely incompatible with anyone who did this. I'm betting that's not the only anti-social and selfish thing he does either, these things are always signs of something bigger. Great guys don't throw rubbish out of car windows!

Nanof8 · 19/12/2025 17:50

Have you talked to him about it? Did he do it just because you asked him not to?
It's only been a few weeks, I'd definitely take a step back from this relationship.

Catsbreakfast · 19/12/2025 17:51

I hate people who litter. It’s brain dead, entitled behaviour. You do the right thing. He’s shown you who he is

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 19/12/2025 17:51

How old is he? 15?

TwistedWonder · 19/12/2025 17:52

HippopotamusForChristmas · 19/12/2025 17:13

I thought this was going to be another eye roll where the woman dumps a perfectly decent guy because he said something slightly imperfect but nope... get rid. He's an immature, dirty scutter. A fucking tramp.

100% this. I was half expecting him wearing the wrong shoes or asking for extra ketchup for his chips but not this.

OP - he’s a scummy little tramp with no respect for you or the environment so in the bin with him
