She's a teenager now, but when DD3 started P1 (so five), I was three weeks off 44. My older two were 15 and 14 then.

MrsSamR · 10/12/2025 22:05

Based in the SW, my daughter started Y1 in September as I turned 40.

Cherrybomb00 · 10/12/2025 22:05

I was 34 and 38 when mine were in year 1

Rufus27 · 10/12/2025 22:05

I was 50 when my youngest was in Y1. I was surprised to find I wasn’t the oldest (by one month). At least a third of DC’s class had mums over 40 when they were in Y1 (small village primary).

ThatJollyGreySquid · 10/12/2025 22:07

I was 39 when my DD was in year 1. The oldest Mum was 52 and the youngest was 19. It really doesn’t matter.

Epidote · 10/12/2025 22:08

I was 48 when mine was in year 1.
I'm probably the older mum tbf by the look of everyone, but I can't care less tbh.

WorryWife · 10/12/2025 22:09

I’m almost 41 and have a reception kid

HippeePrincess · 10/12/2025 22:09

I was 28 with my first and I’ll be 41/42 with the last. Perfectly normal to have a large range of ages.

ScrambledEggs12 · 10/12/2025 22:09

I was 41 when my youngest was in Year 1, definitely one of the oldest. I was 38 when my eldest was in Year 1, and one of the oldest.

The parents older than me mostly also had much older children too.

ScruffMuffin · 10/12/2025 22:10

Haven't read the whole thread.

When my kids were in Year 1 (around a decade ago), the youngest mum and dad were both 21. Oldest mum was around 48 and oldest dad was 61.

Thesquaregiraffe · 10/12/2025 22:11

My son aged 14 and his best mate, also 14 are going to see Metallica next year with his mum - aged 30 (possibly 31 by the time we go) and I will be 52!

What I will say is; when you have a child, whether you’re 18, 33 or 45 the goals, concerns and achievements are the same. We all, as parents want the best for our children - and then, age really doesn’t matter.

SparklyRedZebra · 10/12/2025 22:11

Well that depends on things like siblings? With my youngest 31/32 and my youngest 41/42. So without knowing basics about their family I wouldn’t think anything about their ages really.

Shedeboodinia · 10/12/2025 22:11

My sister had her first at 22 and said she always fwlt out of place being a young mum. And then a second at 37 and says she now feels like the oldest.
We were in a less well off area when my first was in primary and I felt old.
And then moved to a more affluent area now I am actually even older and i feel young.
It does depend on area I think too, stands to reason that younger parents have had less time to build up to a better job or more expensive house. Older parents have had more time to accumulate money and wouldnt have spent their 20s paying out for child related things.
I was 35 when my eldest was in year 1 and 40 when my youngest was in year 1.

TwinklyOpalShark · 10/12/2025 22:11

My youngest started reception in September. I'm 49

Runawaaybaby · 10/12/2025 22:13

I'm 28 with a child in Year One but I can't say I really take note of how old people look, I just say a friendly good morning

GrannyTeapot · 10/12/2025 22:13

With my eldest I was 21 when she was Y1, my youngest I was 45. I prefer to go with feeling wise rather than old 😉.

Shinyandnew1 · 10/12/2025 22:14

I was 25 with my first and 32 with my last.

IrisEmily · 10/12/2025 22:16

I was 50 when my child was in Year 1.

Happycow · 10/12/2025 22:17
