I was 35 and 40 and my best friend was 49!

NazMedusa · 11/12/2025 19:36

My youngest is in school nursery (almost 4 years old) and I'm 42. I also have a child in year 3 and year 10. When I'm with my (moustached and very tall) 14 year old, people comment on what a young mum he has. I don't get those comments with my youngest though! 😂

Crunchienuts · 11/12/2025 19:36

38 and 43. Probably one of the older mums second time.

Isthisstillmymidlifecrisis · 11/12/2025 19:38

I was 48 when my youngest was in Year 1. And wasn’t the oldest. One of the dads was 64 then, and the child’s mum was 50. My son’s best friend’s mum was 21. I was definitely old enough to be grandma but neither I, my child or anyone else really cared.

BattenbergLoves · 11/12/2025 19:44

My first and only child is in reception and I’ll be 40 in January so not far off you

Mamascoven · 11/12/2025 19:45

My dd is y1 and I'm 31. I also have a pre-schooler, a y5 and a y7.

Rehoming123 · 11/12/2025 19:47

I was 31 when my eldest was in year 1 and will be 37 when my youngest (3rd) is in year 1

Nursemumma92 · 11/12/2025 19:49

I was 30 when my eldest was in year 1, will be 35 when my youngest is in year 1. Very wide spectrum of ages in our area though.

tulipsandsunflowersx · 11/12/2025 19:49

My DS is in reception and I'm 30 so I'll be 31 when he's in year 1. I'd say the other mums are mostly mid 30s some 40s. However I have seen quite a few mums in the playground with older DC who are probably my age or even younger. There's a really big mix. When my youngest DC starts school I'll be 34.

landlordhell · 11/12/2025 19:51

I teach in year 1 and our youngest mum is 24. No idea about the others but they appear to range between 30-50. I was 34 and 37 respectively.

Mumonteaanddreamd · 11/12/2025 19:52

I'm 42 with a child in year 2. I just feel knackered 😭

By the time my youngest is year 1 ill be 49

Do you not feel guilty? I mean that there’s a much lower chance of seeing him/her grow up? Just as mine didnt with me. I don’t get the logic behind the decision at all. Becoming an adult with no living parents remaining is not something I recommend it’s the hardest and loneliest thing a young person can go through, trust me.

PC7102 · 11/12/2025 19:53

I’m 35

Sometimes it’s not through choice!!

I was 33 was in year one when my daughter started year one and same daughter will be 41 when her child starts year one. Women are having babies later now. No probs.

JFC! 64? That’s appallingly selfish, that poor kid. Destined to be a young carer, poor little thing.

Daffodilsareyellow1 · 11/12/2025 19:55

It'll definitely vary! My son is in year 2 and I'm 39; so 38 when he was in year 1. There is a mix of different age parents but none seem overly young, some older. My closest mum friend is 46.

When my eldest was in year 1, I was 28 and was one of the younger mums. It'll depend a lot on where you live.

There is an element of choice though. I had a surprise pregnancy despite taking precautions. And due to my health it was a big decision but unless I was past the legal cut off, if I needed to then, a decision would’ve been made and precautions changed. But I don’t want to derail the thread!

TeddyBeans · 11/12/2025 20:00

I was 33 for my eldest, will be 38 when the youngest gets to year 1

Hummusanddipdip · 11/12/2025 20:13

My eldest is a July born yr2 and I'm 35. I will be 39 when my youngest is yr1

popcornandpotatoes · 11/12/2025 20:14

34, it's very varied at DDs school and honestly I can't really tell how old other mums are

adviceneeded1990 · 11/12/2025 20:16

Massive range! Anything from early 20s to mid 40s here!

TurquoiseDress · 11/12/2025 20:17

When DC2 started year 1 I had just turned 45

Definitely think there is a wide ish spectrum of age although here where we live in SE London I’d say prob mums aged at least early 30s and beyond

PrincessSakura · 11/12/2025 20:19

I was 26 with my eldest and 27 with my youngest.

Firsttimemom3 · 11/12/2025 20:20

31 !
