I was 27 then 31, other parents were all at least 10 years older than me. It very much depends on the area though, small village schools tend to be mostly older parents, estate schools in deprived areas less so

Gothamcity · 12/12/2025 00:49

Vast majority at our school with ks1 kids are mid 30s to early 40s.

I'm 54 - great isn't it?!! WE have more sense and more experience to pass on - I think/hope!😍

I was 42 with my eldest, 44 with my 2nd & 46 with my youngest when they were in year 1. We’ve moved around a lot & I was pretty much always the oldest mum in the class! My daughter (now in year 10) however, has just moved schools & I’m a pretty average age there! 😆

Edited to add that amongst my friendship group, I was a very average age!

TheFluffiestCat · 12/12/2025 07:09

I was 39. Most of the school run mums were about the same age but ranged from about 25-50.

pollymere · 12/12/2025 08:04

I was in my early thirties standing by Mums in early twenties and those in their mid forties.

GeorgeEdwardsMum · 12/12/2025 09:08

When DD was in reception she was asked by a DC if I was her GM when I picked her up from school. I was a bit upset thinking I must look ancient. I was 39.
It turned out the girl who said it had a DM aged nineteen. I was four years older than her GM.
I was pretty average in age, but there were outliers both ways.

ThisCalmCrow · 12/12/2025 09:09

I’m 33 with my eldest in year 1, and I’ll be 37 by the time my youngest starts

Pandolly · 12/12/2025 09:11

I'm 37. The playground parents for the other Yr 1 children vary widely tbh, some are older than me, there's someone in their 50's, some are in their 20's.

FromTheFirstOldFashionedWeWereCursed · 12/12/2025 09:12

I'm 45 - I was 39 when she was born. I'm one of the oldest mums in her class, but I don't think I'm the oldest.

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 12/12/2025 09:14

I was 21 with my eldest and 34 with my youngest child.

My daughter and step daughter were both 25 when their eldest were in year 1.

SleepingStandingUp · 12/12/2025 09:14

43, nearly 44.

there's one Mom a year younger, another few in maybe mid 30s / late 30s and a load of 20 something's who are all slim and beautiful. I get the feeling old thing.

Mogwais · 12/12/2025 09:15

With dcs 1 & 2 I was mid 30's when they were in year 1, dd 3 is in reception so I'll be a couple of months off 50 when she's in year 1, I would say that the majority of the mums and dad's at my dds school range from mid 30s to 50's, I think more & more women are waiting until later to have children now.

Tacox · 10/12/2025 22:04

Depends on the school. I had mine at 16 in year 3 now and I’m 24. The others are all way older than me with even a few grandparents raising their grandkids, none of them want to know me.
I wouldn’t worry about being too old at 42 though think most of these are in their 30s or 40s

I'm sorry, that's really shit. my school Mom friendship group ranges from first child at 19 to first child at 40 (all same year). Age has nothing to do with friendship especially situational ones like school where you clearly have stuff in common.

randomusernam · 12/12/2025 09:25

37 with my first and 43 with my second

SleepingStandingUp · 12/12/2025 09:26

the only thing I regret about having babies so old is the grandkids 😂 if they have their father's prowess with the females I'll be decrepit before I get any!! and yes they might choose to not have any anyway or be unable to etc. but 5 yos current ambition is to be a Daddy like Daddy. and then a headteacher as an afterthought 😂

Dancingintherain09 · 12/12/2025 09:27

I was 27 with DS1 and 34 with DS2

Kittkats · 12/12/2025 09:30

I was 33, 35, 39 and 41

Fratch · 12/12/2025 09:52

I was 42 and 45 respectively when my two started Y1. I don't think it made much difference to me or the children.

bearbabybear · 12/12/2025 09:59

Also 42 but she’s the oldest and I also have a one year old so I’ll be even older by then.

Airspice · 12/12/2025 11:19

I was 42 and 43 when mine were in Year 1, I was quite the oldest, a couple in each year were older than me and tbh I’m quite ‘young at heart’ so the younger ones (ages 24-40s) became my friends too.

lilkitten · 12/12/2025 11:45

When youngest started Y1, I would have been 41 and 9 months. I still don't feel old at 47 tbh

Striptlytiger · 12/12/2025 11:46

I am 46 and have a 5yr old in Year 1. I am sometimes mistaken for his grandma (sob) but I look at some of the really young mums and feel so glad I did all the things I wanted to do and become financially stable before having my children. I'm not the oldest mum in the year 1 group either!

FartyAnimal · 12/12/2025 11:47

I was 41 when my son was in year one. There were plenty of others a similar age.
