17 year old lifted and laid

Does anyone tell their older teens to get the bus? I am so sick of the entitlement of my 17 year old expecting to be dropped off and picked up, despite having a free bus pass.
Is this just a fact of life?

I live rurally , so no public transport. 18 year old just passed test so can transport themselves around when needed. Unfortunately it's my car so that's another issue. I don't mind dropping and picking dc anywhere but if it's just expected without prior arrangements it would piss me off especially if there are good public transport options.

Maybe it’s regional?

I’m Irish (south coast) and it’s not commonly used where I am. In fact it’s not an expression I’ve ever come across.

Me either and I'm from the west.

I love learning new words and meanings thanks op!

I feel for you but with a free bus pass he should be using it. My son has just passed his test and that is a whole set of new worries especially in this weather.

Haha, I can't believe so little of you know what 'lifted and laid' means. Im in Central Scotland. It means that the 17 year old wants for absolutely nothing. Life is luxurious, sweet and easy, and in turn, I'm what we call a 'Mug' (foolish and gullible)

I'm also Scottish OP and am very familiar with the expression. When I saw the levels of discombobulation on the thread, I wondered if it's a Scottish expression, the English equivalent being "fetched and carried"? I dunno.

But perfectly comprehensible to me. Smile

I’m in Edinburgh but from a different part of Scotland. I’ve never heard this saying in my life lol (46) 😆. My 12 and 15 year olds get themselves about by bus though so I’d certainly expect your 17 yo to

Very surprised no one knows what 'lifted and laid means'
Its literally a person expecting you to do everything for them - perhaps its an NI term

Herefordshire here. Never heard of it. Assumed teenage had died and Op was discussing funeral issues/ distress.
