Whoever has pulled out of the Eurovision because Isreal are competing….. pathetic!

Spain, Ireland … to name a few.

Answer me this- if you have a nurse/doctor from Isreal or Israeli decent….. will you not be seen by them?

They broke voting rules for Eurovision but blame it on people being anti-Semitic why don't you? 🙄

Can you explain how they broke the voting rules?

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has broader geographical implications in a way that none of those other conflicts did (or at least, were perceived to have at the time).

For you.

For hundreds of millions of Eastern Europeans and for hundreds of millions Western Europeans who care about the security of our continent.

Zov · 04/12/2025 22:25

100% agree @SheThinksShesAllThat You won't get many on MN agreeing though. 🙄 Pulling out of the Eurovision Song Contest next year (because Israel is going to take part in it) is childish and pathetic. I will be embarrassed to show my face in mainland Europe again if the UK pulls out!

The hostages taken by Hamas were also raped - both men and women. And saying toddlers were shot in the head is twisting the narrative to something it’s not. Yes, children were killed during the attempts by Israel to retrieve the hostages, which no-one wanted, but please don’t imply that toddlers were lined up and shot in the head….

Are you human at all?

Yes babies were killed but we didn't line them up.....

I actually have no words

Because Russia aggressively attacked a country . Isreal were defending themselves .

Yes, this. ^ I can't believe anyone can possibly think any different. It's bizarre. There's some real groupthink shit going on when it comes to this.

It is childish, and simplistic, but it's what people like - a clear narrative of good guy bad guy and everyone claps and cheers.

The Palestinian babies - and many, many, more of them - are just as dead. Do you think it makes a difference to their mothers whether the thing that killed them was fired from a gun or dropped from a plane?

Just because Israel was attacked, it does not give them carte blanche to commit all the human rights abuses they want in return.

Both sides are bad. You don’t have to pick one and defend everything they do. That’s the real groupthink, and you are just as guilty of it.

I think it is important that the discussion on this thread is focused purely on Eurovision. I am sure there are many threads on this forum that you can discuss the Israel-Hammas conflict.

Would you be concerned about the safety of the Israeli contestant if they perform this year, and if Israel do not get through to the final would you automatically assume that it was rigged?

EddyNeddy · 04/12/2025 22:34

Zov · 04/12/2025 22:31

Do you seriously think that just because the Palestinians started it this time, that gives Israel carte blanche to commit all the human rights abuses they want in return? Have you thought about the horrifying implications of that for more than 2 seconds?

People who have been victimised can still do bad things. Men who were sexually abused as children are far more likely to themselves become abusers - that helps explain, but does not excuse their actions. They are still guilty.

I do agree with why they attacked, why they defended and continue to defend themselves whilst completely outnumbered and surrounded by Islamic states.

I feel for those who were murdered, abducted and injured on that fateful day that started this war.

I also condemn the killing of innocent people however for Hamas to build tunnels under schools and hospitals to evade attack amounts to genocide in itself.

God love the innocent being caught up in a brutal war whether you think it’s justified or not.

Stand by my previous comment about not being stereotypical about an individual from a country, I’ve met Russians who are lovely, Israeli people too.

I take it that if your husband murdered someone’s child, you would have no moral objection to the victim’s family tracking down and murdering one of your children?

Because that’s just how things work according to the moral system you claim to subscribe to.

So on that concept, your child is attacked, abducted, raped and murdered and your government does nothing about it? Is that the narrative you would rather see in place? Or maybe a middle ground might be better? I’m sure any mother would prefer your option to be honest.

The time for Israel defending itself has past. the first bombardment fair enough .but years later .they are doing what they have complained against from the war the abused is now the abuser and before people jump down my throat my jewish relatives are so ashamed of the government. And as a grandchild of Jewish immigrants so am I

HRTQueen · 04/12/2025 22:46

While Isreal continues to carry out the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, as the UN inquiry found, Isreal absolutely should not be invited to take part in such celebrated competitions

I hope the UK too make a stand

They broke voting rules for Eurovision but blame it on people being anti-Semitic why don't you? 🙄

They didn't actually break the rules though as far as I know. The EBU investigated and apparently they canvassed votes in a way that was within the rules.

There are always diaspora issues with the public votes - it looks like it's rigged the way they work out with certain countries always voting for each other, but it's mostly because of movement between countries especially countries that have only been separate nation states for eg 20/30/40 years - within that kind of timeframe you have people whose families straddle borders and languages and they'll vote for eg the place they spent summers with granny, even though that's a different country from the one they're raising their own family in.

For Israel ofc the diaspora effect is greatly magnified and there was a massive fuss about them being there at all so the state publicity machine went into overdrive across many borders, while the story of their appearance made international news, people's interest was piqued and they responded to the call to vote.

Sorry, I must apologise, I read it too quickly. Your option should focus on the perpetrator and not the children before I’m called all sorts of names.

This is another video from ESC Gabe who is reacting to the 2025 vote.

He brings up a lot of issues and the remedies that are trying to be put in place. Its a really good contemporaneous document of what was actually happening in the contest and how Israels participation has changed how the contest has had to be presented.

You’re continually winning the ‘missing the point’ prize on this thread. And also the psychopath prize. No, I would prefer for the perpetrator to be punished, and not the perpetrator’s innocent child. Because I don’t believe in collective punishment.

Of course Israel had to respond to the October 7th attack, and to defend themselves. But torture, sodomy and mass starvation are not justifiable defensive tactics.

I am simply trying to make the point that people who have been hurt can cross moral lines when responding to that hurt. This is a simple concept that most adults with half a brain can grasp.
