Whoever has pulled out of the Eurovision because Isreal are competing….. pathetic!

Spain, Ireland … to name a few.

Answer me this- if you have a nurse/doctor from Isreal or Israeli decent….. will you not be seen by them?

Completely different situation because Russia were the aggressor.
Israel are at war because they were attacked by an invasion of terrorists across the border into their country & hundreds of civilians i.e. babies, children women, elderly people were attacked, raped, mutilated, kidnapped & murdered. Israel were responding to acts of aggression by Hamas & then Hezbollah, Houtis, Iraq. They did not start the war.

This. And after the ceasefire Hamas where killing their own people in front of their families to make a point. So no they don't have the moral high ground either.

Not at all we are just well used to be being occupied by people who have no claim to our land, who destroy our history, our language and our country, and are sympathetic to the cause of those who suffer the same fate.

Unless the people are Jewish of course

Londonrach1 · 04/12/2025 22:08

Don't know why it's Eurovision should be worldvison.

2021x · 04/12/2025 22:08

Lets keep the discussion to Eurovison Song Contest and how we think it will effect it?

Do you think that it will cause issues with the contest in Vienna this year?

Israel have stopped defending themselves as they’ve now retrieved most of the hostages, apart from those ‘lost’ by Hamas of course. And there was no genocide. It’s just something antisemitics have decided to run with to suit their own narrative.

Killing and burning to death women and children is not self defence. Don’t be surprised if people don’t like you when you do it.

You do realise that it’s possible for neither side to have the high ground? That it’s possible for people to despise Hamas while also believing that Israel is committing human rights abuses? In some wars - in fact, in a lot of wars, both sides are bad. And the fact that one side is worse does not excuse abominable acts committed by the ‘better’ side.

Israel’s cause may be just, but that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible for them to have crossed moral lines in the process of pursuing that cause.

Because Russia aggressively attacked a country . Isreal were defending themselves .

They are committing genocide, and every credible organisation from the UN to Amnesty International agrees. They suffered a horrific terrorist attack - that does not excuse GENOCIDE.

I think it has lost credibility for not banning Israel. If you ban Russia you must ban Israel

Eh? Turning the channel over is boycotting Eurovision. What did you think that meant? I think you’ve had bit too much to drink this evening.

I was being pedantic but thanks for your contribution.

These claims can go around in circles forever, on October 7th 2023 Hamas gang raped and sodomised young women, desecrated their bodies and dragged then dying through the streets to the cheers of men, women and children; they're not the victims or the good guys.

Never said they were. In some wars, there are no good guys. You don’t have to pick a side in every single conflict that goes on around the globe.

Hortesne · 04/12/2025 22:10

I genuinely don't think they could have come with the "peace and unity" with both Russia and Ukraine in the contest.

Other people manage. Armenia and Azerbaijan, Russia and Georgia, Greece and Cyprus. Admittedly the cancel machine went into overdrive around Russia, with supermarkets refusing to stock (Polish) vodka and renaming (French) chicken dishes etc, but it's disappointing that Eurovision bought into it too.

By shooting toddlers in the head and raping men in prison

The hostages taken by Hamas were also raped - both men and women. And saying toddlers were shot in the head is twisting the narrative to something it’s not. Yes, children were killed during the attempts by Israel to retrieve the hostages, which no-one wanted, but please don’t imply that toddlers were lined up and shot in the head….

If Russia aren’t allowed to participate in the Eurovision why should Israel be?

Russia were expelled from the EBU. Not the same at all

Plus Russia launched an unprovoked attack on an innocent, sovereign state

I agree that they could have at least given Israel a "time out" to sort out their affairs given the contest was used as propaganda by Netenyahus governement.

I woudl like to have heard their discussion about this.

You get that there are multiple countries in Eurovision who are also directly threatened by Russia? Ukraine, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland, for starters, would have pulled out had Russia been allowed to continue to participate.

Armenia and Azerbaijan are pretty much the only countries who care about their conflict (well besides Turkey, but they’re on the side of Azerbaijan who were undeniably the aggressors in the most recent outbreak of that war so would hardly have pulled out over Azerbaijan’s continued inclusion).

Greece and Cyprus are friends and allies - I think you mean Greece and Turkey (with Turkey being the country that is occupying northern Cyprus)…

And in the case of the Russian invasion of Georgia in 2008, it was far enough away that Europeans could pretend it didn’t have European implications.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has broader geographical implications in a way that none of those other conflicts did (or at least, were perceived to have at the time).

Of course I do. I don't even pretend to understand the rights and wrongs of it.
I don't think politics should be brought into a stupid music competition or sport. The people competing don't have anything to do with the running of their respective countries.

Hamas should have protected their people by releasing the hostages. What did the kidnaps and murders achieve? Nothing, but thousands of people dead. Israel have every right to be in the Eurovision. If other countries want to have tantrums about it, then let them crack on.

I agree, I feel for the people of Israel a majority of whom are quite appaulled by the actions of their government in the same way that most British people were appaulled about the Trans-atlantic slave trade and the Indian Genocide when they learned about it.

Yeah get with the programme. We all have to be moral arbiters of everything now, and to apply the ever changing filter of our morality to every aspect of life.

You have the luxury of taking that position because these issues don’t affect you directly. Hundreds of millions of Eastern Europeans can’t say the same thing.

They broke voting rules for Eurovision but blame it on people being anti-Semitic why don't you? 🙄

Same as you brushing off Armenia, Georgia etc then?
