The non european states of Armenia and Azerbaijan both committed war crimes against each other's civilians in 2020 in the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War yet still compete in Eurovision. No one boycotted Eurovision because of it.

The issue with the competition isn't the war. The issue is that the Israeli government is using Eurovision as propaganda in the US and getting people to vote for them so they can show their popularity. The govenement showed adverts in Times Sq, NY to vote for the Israeli entry, and this had nothing to do KAN the broadcaster.

As a result EBU have to change the rules to prevent that from happening rather than sanctioning Israel because of their Government interference.

I feel for Israeli citizens having to deal with such an authortarian government at the monment, just as much as I feel for the Gazan's being held accountable for their government actions. The actions of this government is eroding all

Im Irish and I am glad that RTE has made this decision. I dont want my television licence fee to fund access to a competition that actively allows Israel to manipulate votes, harass contestants backstage and break the rules of the contest so blatantly.

Someone talking about this on the radio earlier related it to the boycott of apartheid South Africa and made the very good point that it helps send a message to a population about how they are viewed by the rest of the world, which eventually is part of what stops governments doing the wrong thing.
