Whoever has pulled out of the Eurovision because Isreal are competing….. pathetic!

Spain, Ireland … to name a few.

Answer me this- if you have a nurse/doctor from Isreal or Israeli decent….. will you not be seen by them?

Israel commit genocide but get upset that countries boycott the Eurovision, well guess what if you don’t like it look at your own actions and stop killing Palestinians.

Yes,I’m sure their singer/group being withdrawn will really make a difference to their military action.

halfpasteleven · 04/12/2025 21:48

scoobysnaxx · 04/12/2025 20:23

Israel has completely gone past defending itself.

they have committed genocide and ethnic cleansing.

of course they shouldn’t compete.

and just don’t with the anti-semetism comments I’m far from it and sick and tired to death of being accused of it because I stand with Palestine.

100% this.

Israel have stopped defending themselves as they’ve now retrieved most of the hostages, apart from those ‘lost’ by Hamas of course. And there was no genocide. It’s just something antisemitics have decided to run with to suit their own narrative.

EddyNeddy · 04/12/2025 21:50

Livelovebehappy · 04/12/2025 21:46

🙄 because Russia invaded Ukraine aggressively. Whilst Israel were defending themselves from terrorists and trying to retrieve the people kidnapped by Hamas. Can’t you see the difference?

The issue is nowhere near as black and white as you are making it out to be. However just a country’s cause is, it is perfectly possible for them to cross the line from defence to vengeance, and commit human rights abuses. The process matters too.

"The Irish"? You're doing exactly what antisemites do.

Ireland was neutral but secretly supported the allies. Maybe you need to learn some basic facts.

If Russia aren’t allowed to participate in the Eurovision why should Israel be?

It in a nutshell.

Rather than this thread being disrupted can we discuss about Israel governments involvement outside of KAN (the broadcaster) in the use of Eurovision as a propaganda tool to garner international support for their actrions.

Do you think that this is right?

EddyNeddy · 04/12/2025 21:54

Abbie7327 · 04/12/2025 21:44

I don’t care if Russia competes either? Do I hold their singer accountable? Absolutely not! I don’t understand the disgust to be honest, it’s a singing competition.

If my child was refused to take part in a school competition because of their religion or nationality I would be disgusted. I do not understand what the issue is with members of contentious countries taking part!!!

It’s a television show. Television shows make money by attracting viewers. People don’t want to watch things that make them angry. The vast majority of decent people would not want to watch Russia participating in a light entertainment show while they are massacring innocent Ukrainians, especially the many millions of Europeans living in countries next on Putin’s list. The fact that you claim not to understand this is indicative do nothing other than your own privilege and wilful ignorance.

Israel’s actions have clearly moved far beyond what is necessary from a defensive perspective, as is obvious to everyone with eyes.

Ukraine blowing up the Kerch bridge between Crimea and Russia and incidentally killing a few Russian civilians in the process is a justified defensive action. Israeli soldiers sodomising Palestinian detainees with sharp objects is not. That is vengeance, not defence.

I fully support Israel’s right to exist within its 1948 borders, and to defend those borders with necessary force, but that doesn’t mean I have to turn a blind eye to their blatant - and extremely well-documented - human rights abuses.

The issue is nowhere near as black and white as you are making it out to be.

These claims can go around in circles forever, on October 7th 2023 Hamas gang raped and sodomised young women, desecrated their bodies and dragged then dying through the streets to the cheers of men, women and children; they're not the victims or the good guys.

Not when Hamas had control of the situation. To stop the Palestinians dying, all they ever had to do was release the hostages. But they were on a power trip and pocketing millions in the process, which was more important to them than the death of their own people it seems…

What are you talking about? People annoyed because a Russian or Israeli is on the television? I clearly don’t live in your world! So we boycott TV because they show the Eurovision? Just turn the channel over? It’s absolutely ridiculous.

Hortesne · 04/12/2025 21:57

Nobody should be kicked out of Eurovision. The organisers made a mistake doing this with Russia because now they've left themselves open to demands to do the same with whatever country gets put on the naughty step next, and then other people speak in defence of that country, and then you get bands of for and against, and you might as well not bother.

In the early days of Eurovision, all of the participants had very recent chequered pasts, and many had chequered presents, and that has continued to be the case throughout. Nobody got banned though - if they were recognised as a country, and they could get to the competition, they could take part.

Sure there were rumblings and alliances and grievances but there wasn't this compunction for "calling out" and all the posturing moralising that goes with it. Now they've started down the road it's difficult to see how they can pull back from it.

Edited

Finally someone who is willing to talk about Eurovision :)

I disagree with them not kicking out Russia because I genuinely don't think they could have come with the "peace and unity" with both Russia and Ukraine in the contest.

It is more complicated with Israel because a) the history of anti-semitism/immigrant history within Europe and b) their conflict is not with a country in the EBU.

Im Irish and I am glad that RTE has made this decision. I dont want my television licence fee to fund access to a competition that actively allows Israel to manipulate votes, harass contestants backstage and break the rules of the contest so blatantly.

Tbf Ireland is.... not sane on the topic of Israel. It's quite uncomfortable, actually.

Not at all we are just well used to be being occupied by people who have no claim to our land, who destroy our history, our language and our country, and are sympathetic to the cause of those who suffer the same fate.

You do get that that line - ‘Hamas could have stopped it at any time’ - does not give Israel carte blanche to commit all the human rights abuses it wants to, right? Have you thought about the implications of that for even a moment?

Does it justify Israeli soldiers sodomising Palestinian detainees - many of whom have never been charged with a crime or allowed to have their day in court - with sharp objects?
