Why does Taylor Swift fall out with everyone?

I've never known anyone so famous for ditching people and then writing songs about them. Why is she so popular? She seems utterly toxic to me.

Just ignore her, you're entitled to your opinion just like everyone else.

Thanks.x

Coolasfeck · 17/10/2025 13:18

I think she’s transitioned from musician to brand and has adopted the behaviours of other billionaires in regards to spending less time on quality verses focusing on making more money.

Releasing 30 versions of the same album plus a ton of cheaply made merchandise smacks of exploiting her massive devoted fanbase.

The orgs responsible for music charts should also change the rules to prevent chart manipulation or at least put asterisks against her sales records. Adele had a record with 2 variants, which means a high number of individual purchases. Whereas Taylor’s record is largely made up of the same people buying the album 30 times.

I don’t think she’s as popular as the charts show, it’s just a massive fanbase who exhibit cult like tendencies and will buy ANYTHING she puts out.

Her marketing team is better than those for any other product on the planet.

Idea for a thread: "I said something with a sneering tone that implied my taste was superior and continued to engage repeatedly on the topic. Is everyone else BU to challenge me on it?"

(I'm not the person who was replying to you, but come on. It's fine that you don't like her and that you're oh-so-cultured, but then.... don't engage with threads about her then? You wouldn't wander into a cafe and start shouting about how coffee is shit and then get upset people disagreed with you, would you?)

It's OP's thread about how she finds TS utterly toxic. So why shouldn't people who don't like TS engage with it?

Maybe you shouldn't engage it with if it bothers you.

I don't find TS toxic but people are entitled to their views.

LittleAlexHornesPocket · 17/10/2025 13:21

This idea that you can't associate with people from different political perspectives is why America is in such a mess in the first place.

I’ve not said I’m oh so cultured they are your words and I came on here for a balanced conversation about an artist which should be objective chat not a slanging match which is what that poster has made it. I am entitled to calmly stick up for myself which is not ‘haughty’. I’ve tried to be respectful despite being called me a numpty and I’ve asked her to stop as I’m upset. It’s now clear some TS fans are a particular breed of schoolgirl bitchy bully and are not able to allow others to feel differently.

Oh goody the weekly Taylor bashing thread

No one did these when every other artist came out with loads of variants of their albums..

I really don't get why she attracts this ire

Mistyglade · 17/10/2025 11:51

I’m not a fan, I don’t like her voice or her music and I don’t think she really knows who she is. I think she’s a girlie girl who may not have energy for non likeminded other women and any conflicted interests. I’m going to stick my two penneth in and suggest unlike elder peers such as Madonna or Kylie as a lesser extent who have dabbled in different musical genres and artistic forms with a gumption and chameleonic intent, Miss Swift presents as a sort of predictable unexciting simple singer of dull artistry. Her hair is so boring, her stage outfits a tired overdone middle of the road mainstream borefest. I do in my defence have a strong musical taste for new and exciting artists so I appreciate I am more critical than some people. I just feel she’s happy to click her fingers and if things don’t her way she slams the door on you. I await comments on how nasty I am!

Your post seems to describe someone who knows exactly who she is.

Horsie · 17/10/2025 11:43

She is not a MAGA supporter or a Nazi supporter. She's a Democrat who voted for Kamala and believes in women's rights, including the right to choose. She invited one Republican backstage for some reason. That does not mean she is MAGA. People are just making stuff up about her that is not true.

And the people coming out with all this stuff are not proving a single word of it is true.

Bit hard to I guess. As none of it is true.

PortSalutSherryHello · 17/10/2025 13:34

It's funny, the only mean girl stuff I can see isnt coming from swifties in any way.

That's what I said! 😆 The weekly Taylor Swift bashing thread!!

I can only put it down to jealousy and bitterness, and the fact that Taylor is a beautiful, white, upper-middle-class, privileged woman who is successful and rich and powerful. (And has a HUGE following and 100s of millions of fans, and sells 100s of millions of records/songs.)

Some people don't like this. Wink Women should know their place, be quiet and be KIND! And only people who have become successful after coming from a poor and troubled background deserve respect. How DARE someone who comes from privilege be successful and popular?!

Amen to that! 👏 There seems to be a special kind of vitriol and bile and loathing for Taylor Swift that no other music artist seems to get.

mustwashmycurtains · 17/10/2025 13:41

It's not particularly interesting to hear about calm relationships going well - either in songs (her own output) or in the press (the media reporting on her)
So we don't hear it. Instead we hear the more interesting stuff from both. It's not a new concept.

Mahomes and her family are MAGA.

she’s MAGA by association

Oh here you are spreading poison on another thread.
What a surprise.

steff13 · 17/10/2025 13:44

I think people are calling her a Nazi because of that necklace she was selling in her store, but they pulled it. It was a bit of a stretch, IMO.

I know at least some portion of this is referring to me, but not once have I called you a numpty or used any childish insults or engaged in name calling. I have described you as haughty, superior, disdainful and pretentious because that is exactly how I find your comments to be and I stand by those descriptions. That you find them upsetting is not my fault- I think they’re accurate. And you knew exactly what kind of response your first comment would elicit because you literally ended it with “I await comments on how nasty I am”. And now you’re saying you’re being bullied?! Really??

Is it 'objective' to say "I just feel she’s happy to click her fingers and if things don’t her way she slams the door on you." about someone you don't know and have never met?

I'm all for a balanced conversation - I'm a huge fan of TS's work and equally think there's a lot of conversations to be had about her public image, her attempts at engaging with causes/politics, and the way she handles controversy. But "I don't like her hair and don't think she's capable of different genres" (when she famously broke out of country music, into pop, into folk music) and then follow it up with a completely random comment about how she apparently behaves in interpersonal relationships isn't very balanced. That's not bitchy, it's meeting you where you're at.

HevenlyMeS · 17/10/2025 14:04

Yes, if she just seems to do whatever makes her the most money, it's very sad indeed 💚

Have you actually met anyone, in real life, who bought all the variants?

I haven't, and I know a lot of Swifties and have been to a good few Swiftie events.

I've seen posts from a few people who were watching her website and Instagram for countdowns like a hawk and ready and waiting, day or night depending on time zone, to immediately buy them as they dropped, and then lovingly placing them in their shrine to Taylor room. That's not normal behaviour, these are people who have an obsession, possibly it's their special interest and they have ASD, but most Swifties sleep, eat, have jobs and don't make it their entire personality. Most of the people I know didn't even buy a CD, they just listen on Spotify or Amazon Music.

If those people weren't buying variants of LOASG they'd be trying to collect every single Hornby train set or searching for rare Beanie Boos. It's not about Taylor, it's just a personality type, and a rare one at that.

Lavender14 · 17/10/2025 14:11

NoOneToTextWhenThePlaneLands · 17/10/2025 09:59

Yes I am very proud of that. MAGA stands for everything I am against. They are against human rights for vast swathes of the population and they are against reproductive rights for women, amongst other things. People who believe in that are not people I want to be associated with.

The problem with this is that ends up with people existing in echo Chambers and being unable to have relationships where they can disagree. I have certain political parties where I live that I would never vote for, but there are individual members of those parties where I have been able to work alongside them on certain things. Not everything is all or nothing, a country cannot run that way.

Kelce is NOT MAGA.

surreygirly · 17/10/2025 09:58

How weird
You say that as though you are sop proud and superior
I have friends who are communists and very right and totally not interested
I understand that everyone is entitled to a different opinion and has different perspectives based on their own experiences backgrounds etc

Lots of people avoid Reform voters and people with views to the right of Conservative. MAGA is repugnant. You see it as superior if you wish. I think people who have compassion for those less fortunate are superior.

Personally I was floored by your balanced and intellectual critique of her "boring" hair, but hey, people of all ages are welcome on Mumsnet.

NotAnotherPylon · 17/10/2025 14:24

Never did a pop star divide opinion on Mumsnet so much. It doesn’t matter whether someone starts a positive or negative thread about her, loads of posters swarm on to say how awful or amazing she is. Completely polarised over someone who warbles a few tunes. You’re not allowed to like her, but also you’re not allowed to NOT like her. It’s hilarious.

Rewis · 17/10/2025 14:28

We see headlines and superficial Hollywood friendships cause writing about her bestie who is a 'nobody'. How many of us have friends that have met at work and it fizzles over the years?

Babybaby2025 · 17/10/2025 14:31

Most people who know her well speak very fondly of her.

Yes she's had some unsuccessful relationships, but hardly excessive. Can you imagine how difficult it must be for a women of that status to maintain a relationship? It wouldn't be comparable to your average woman at all.

And also find it odd people draw conclusions about her love life and friend drama from her music. Yes some is based on real experience but a lot will be imaginary story telling, hyperbolic or exaggerated etc. Lots of single male singers sing about being deeply in love (Lewis capaldri) for example and lots or married singers sing about heart break etc or being a player.

You'll never get a male celebrity under this much scrutiny
