Why does Taylor Swift fall out with everyone?

I've never known anyone so famous for ditching people and then writing songs about them. Why is she so popular? She seems utterly toxic to me.

Compared to her net worth her donations are tiny. It’s like giving a tenner. Or work giving you a £100 bonus.

she exploits fomo marketing. It’s a fact and it’s a horrid tactic.

How can you find fault with the huge donations and bonuses she gives ?!! I expect you’re the sort of person who would have complained that Jesus only made wine from the water and not a full drinks menu plus nibbles

PennywisePoundFoolish · 17/10/2025 11:44

Taylor came up through the country route, so it's not surprise her songs are quite specific. She's done less of that more recently, though. She is strategic and I don't see anything wrong with that. As for her friendships, it's not uncommon for those who had fame fairly young to go a bit showbiz, then pull it back as they mature.

IMakeDealsWithTheDevil · 17/10/2025 11:46

She hasn't fallen out with me or anyone I personally know.
Hyperbole much OP?

Get a life dude, go and touch grass.

I find her to be completely disingenuous. She talks about how she gets more stick compared to male artists re her personal life. But Ed Sheeran isn’t writing thinly veiled digs into song lyrics about huge celebs Jake Gylenhaal, Harry Styles etc. Taylor drops tonnes of Easter Eggs specifically to create parasociality. It’s profitable for her. Then she complains about being bitten by the monster she herself has created. No other celeb is dating an uber celeb every couple of years and then bitching about them in number 1 songs. Don’t use the female oppression card, Taylor. It’s diluting.

She’s much more calculating than the image she puts out. Ie rinsing her fans with “special copies” that are no different, releasing re-recorded songs to stop other female artists from hitting records…

Ed Sheeran has written a song about a brief relationship with Ellie Golding. It's not a nice song!

Travis Kelce's brother Jason and his wife Kylie also lean left.

I think they are just careful what they say about politics as there are so many crazed people with guns in the US. And I think after a few security scares Taylor is less comfortable speaking out about politics too. That doesn't mean she now supports Trump. People don't usually completely change political allegiances.

Yeah but Taylor does it time and time again. Not just once.

VegemiteOnToast · 17/10/2025 11:49

Kendrick Lamar was called cool when he made a diss track about Drake.

Endofyear · 17/10/2025 09:50

Does she? Or is it just stuff that's made up in the media?

This. Exactly this.

The media just have to keep the stories coming. You have no idea who she is really friends with and really falling out with.

So?

Pedallleur · 17/10/2025 11:51

I'll ask her next time I see her in our local Aldi. but she's a nightmare with checkout staff!

AtIusvue · 17/10/2025 11:51

Because she never had normal teenage years- where theres fallouts and break ups and having to navigate that. She was completely focused on making it as a music star.

Sort of arrested development, that’s why she is fast approaching middle age yet still behaves like a teen.

Mistyglade · 17/10/2025 11:51

I’m not a fan, I don’t like her voice or her music and I don’t think she really knows who she is. I think she’s a girlie girl who may not have energy for non likeminded other women and any conflicted interests. I’m going to stick my two penneth in and suggest unlike elder peers such as Madonna or Kylie as a lesser extent who have dabbled in different musical genres and artistic forms with a gumption and chameleonic intent, Miss Swift presents as a sort of predictable unexciting simple singer of dull artistry. Her hair is so boring, her stage outfits a tired overdone middle of the road mainstream borefest. I do in my defence have a strong musical taste for new and exciting artists so I appreciate I am more critical than some people. I just feel she’s happy to click her fingers and if things don’t her way she slams the door on you. I await comments on how nasty I am!

What's she's writing about is dissected and publicised.
People have always written songs about revenge or anger that someone has done you wrong. We just don't know who they were written about!
Plus, there's such a thing as imagination - just because a song starts with one idea doesn't mean every line in it is a factual version of what happened.

Absolutely this! I am old and have always been a huge Dylan fan, some of his early stuff written in his 20's is vicious but brilliant. Take these lyrics from Like a Rolling Stone He sings it with such venom too! "Ahh princess on a steeple and all the pretty people
They're all drinking, thinking that they've got it made
Exchanging all precious gifts
But you better take your diamond ring, you better pawn it babe
You used to be so amused
At Napoleon in rags and the language that he used
Go to him he calls you, you can't refuse
When you ain't got nothing, you got nothing to lose
You're invisible now, you've got no secrets to conceal
How does it feel, ah how does it feel?
To be on your own, with no direction home
Like a complete unknown, like a rolling stone"

i also found her latest album completely out of touch. She spent the entire thing whining about how hard her life is, how she’s hated by the entire industry and she’s public enemy number one.

A couple days later it’s announced that she’s now worth 2 billion. Get real

I found it odd that she framed her relationship with Travis as “saving her” in her latest album. Despite having said time and time again she is tired of that misogynistic narrative.

IMakeDealsWithTheDevil · 17/10/2025 11:53

It is really obvious that men who hate Taylor don't understand a lot of her lyrics.

There's a divide between people who read books and can use imagination, for one...

Pline · 17/10/2025 11:48

I replied to someone saying Ed Sheeran wouldn't do this. He has.
Different standards for a woman?

Thatstheheatingon · 17/10/2025 11:55

AngeloMysterioso · 17/10/2025 11:43

It’s very clearly about miscarriage. And I’ve yet to see you give a proper example of “what’s she’s done” that is actually bad… She’s a shrewd businesswoman- that’s allowed. She’s ambitious and wants to break records- that’s allowed. She writes songs about her own real life experiences- that’s allowed. She’s very rich- that’s allowed. She’s engaged to someone who plays on the same team as someone who is married to someone whose political views don’t align with her own- that’s allowed.

I actually hadn't heard that song - thank you.
It does sound very much to be about the loss of a pregnancy.
(which doesn't mean her own of course - as it's possible to draw on life in general!)

Notonthestairs · 17/10/2025 11:56

Swift has failed various MNers personal purity test.
So what.

NoOneToTextWhenThePlaneLands · 17/10/2025 11:20

22 is 1/3 less than 34, though? Surely you see why 34 is absolutely insane.

I think it's all insane and a cash grab from record labels - it's a shitty practice generally. But I don't think Taylor Swift, an artist I would argue is easily more than a third more famous than Charli and definitely has at least a third more fans, releasing a third more variants than her would be particularly wild in itself, no.

And that isn't actually what happened: the 34 variants includes digital downloads for a few quid and CDs, not just vinyls (at least 20 of Charli's were vinyls). There were 8 vinyl variants for Showgirl, so fewer than 50% of Charli XCX's album.

Ed Sheeran wrote “Done” about an ex betraying him and it was rumoured to be about Ellie Goulding so……

Pline · 17/10/2025 11:57

My only point is that Taylor Swift riles her fans up with Easter eggs in albums etc. She encourages the parasocial relationship on a scale other artists just don’t. She can’t then complain about double standards.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 17/10/2025 11:57

Diss tracks for exes have been around for decades and they’re effectively a genre in their own right. She’s not the first and she won’t be the last (tho she may be the most prolific).

But also leave the woman alone for goodness’ sake. She’s not perfect and nor is anyone else. Why she alone is perpetually singled out for not being good enough on a forum designed mainly for lifting up women is beyond me. Don’t listen to her. Don’t buy her records. Stop reading about her life. Find someone who meets your demands of ethical purity. Give her a break from the relentless ‘I don’t get it’, ‘she’s a bad person’ vitriol and go and do something that makes you happy instead.

This is an example of the sort of thing I’m on about. She even fails the interesting hair test.

Mainstream has its place. The stuff you smugly tell yourself is edgy wouldn’t be so if everyone liked it. They’re doing you a favour by listening to TS so that you can keep all the cool artists to yourself.

She doesn’t “rile them up” they enjoy it! It’s like a game!
