Growing trend for halal meat

1000 replies

SouthernFashionista · 29/09/2025 14:54

I’m seeing this and it concerns me. I have noticed that Five Guys is now advertising that all its meat is halal and the restaurant in my workplace serves only halal meat. Who is pushing for this and why do the rest of us have no say? For what it’s worth, I am a Black woman, a practising Catholic with many Muslim friends and acquaintances. I don’t believe they are out there demanding halal meat everywhere they go.

Reform voter?

Oh do you mean Reform voters have empathy and kindness? Do they also not get off on imposing the maximum amount of fear and pain on another living being? Do they prefer not to act in such a depraved and sick manner? Thanks for the heads up, I will take a look.

Let's call a spade a spade they're provoked by the colour of their skin

Sadly true.

No, I mean they’re just a bit smelly

But yes,,, you are a reform voter 😆

Sadly true.

Then why do you suppose it’s never Hindu or Sikh culture that is in the spotlight? They have the same complexion, no?

arcticpandas · 29/09/2025 15:44

Their only motivation is financial gain so I wouldn't get worked up about it.

Happyjoe · 29/09/2025 15:45

I've been veggie since 10 years old but other half and the cat eat meat. I'll only buy free range/higher welfare as thats the best on offer at the moment.
I won't buy halal or kosher (kosher is against stunning completely afaik), it's torture. But also people who buy their cheap chicken, eggs, pork and everything in the UK have no grounds to complain. Intensive farming is on the rise, people are eating animals who have never felt the sun on their face, spent their lives in cages where there is no room to even turn around and scratch an itch on their back. Being stunned at death is just an awful end to an awful, cruel life.

It's a horrific industry. Anyone who thinks otherwise is not facing reality.

There is a large sign on the Wimbledon branch proclaiming that its meat is halal. I can’t imagine that Wimbledon is a special case and, if not already, they will be rolling it out in their other branches.

Wimbledon is one of the 20 branches that offers halal beef but also pork.

Why have you twisted this into all 178 branches of Five Guys only offer halal meat?

The vast majority of Five Guys branches (150+ branches) do not offer any halal meat.

Again, why are you spreading lies?

HappyNewTaxYear · 29/09/2025 15:46

Cel77 · 29/09/2025 14:59

Why are you bothered and concerned on a personal level?

Pointless argument

I’m against anti-abortionists protesting outside clinics but I’m well past childbearing age and have no daughters. Can I still hold my views?

TicklishReader · 29/09/2025 15:46

"Those Muslims brutally kill cows different from how we brutally kill cows!"

Stop it.

How come you only have 10 posts to your name?

Are you new to MN or a prolific name changer?

YADNBU. It is also illegal to slaughter animals this way unless they are for consumption by Muslims - which the vast majority of five guys is not.

Most Halal meat is pre-stunned. The small proportion that is not pre-stunned isn't the meat sold in supermarkets and restaurants.

Most Kosher meat is not pre-stunned AFAIK but this doesn't attract the same outrage it seems.

It's a fair question. Why ignore the UK abattoir situation and target Muslims?

Did you type that whilst chomping in to your beef burger with meat from a PETA condemned UK abattoir?

Echobelly · 29/09/2025 15:49

I'm not sure why people should be bothered by eating halal meat. I suppose it's the animal not being stunned some object to, but if you're gong to eat meat at all that's something most people accept.

The reason for having it is to open up custom to people who observe halal, it's not taking anything away from anyone else,it's just making it available to more people, as I expect there are more Muslims inthe UK than people that bothered by how meat is slaughtered.

It's about 18-20% isn't it? That's a lot of animals, in their millions.

Quite. The mental gymnastics that go into justifying the more extreme aspects of Islam are utterly nuts. Everyone else is nasty and right wing apparently; bar countries that publicly execute people, have morality police, treat women as objects, and punish LGBT people with death.

This is just another aspect of such an ideology that I have no desire to kow tow to.

The ‘tolerance’ only flows one way, but nobody will admit it.

But that doesn't make sense that makes out like the animals are killing the humans. And I don't think they've figured out how to do that yet.

And as for religion killing animals encompasses all religions, we're all at it. So really you just... Hate all humans? 😵‍💫

CatchingtheCat · 29/09/2025 15:51

I strongly object to having to pay money towards a religion that I find abhorrent,

DaisyChain505 · 29/09/2025 15:52

It’s absolutely barbaric. The don’t think the poor animal having its throat slit without being stunned cares that it’s having a prayer read to it.

Im vegetarian by the way so dont like the thought of any way of killing animals but this truly is unnecessary.

If you're happy with the state of UK abattoirs but only target halal meat then you're a hypocrite.

Yes, I'm a vegan, so what?
I've haven't got a problem with people eating dead things.
