Growing trend for halal meat

1000 replies

SouthernFashionista · 29/09/2025 14:54

I’m seeing this and it concerns me. I have noticed that Five Guys is now advertising that all its meat is halal and the restaurant in my workplace serves only halal meat. Who is pushing for this and why do the rest of us have no say? For what it’s worth, I am a Black woman, a practising Catholic with many Muslim friends and acquaintances. I don’t believe they are out there demanding halal meat everywhere they go.

I think ultimately it’s a business decision isn’t it.

Five guys have identified they could sell more burgers if their meat is halal, so they’ve decided to use halal meat.

I think it would probably be useful educationally for the rest of us to understand that this method of slaughtering animals is humane (my understanding is that it is).

That the meat has had Islamic prayers said over it as it’s dying… I mean, a bit odd but I don’t find it problematic. I wonder what your average slaughterhouse thinks / has done to accommodate.

Not at all. Plenty of institutions serve halal only and do not notify people of this before buying. Many universities do. It’s appalling.

“All the meat in the country”.

Naddd · 29/09/2025 15:20

If you actually cared about animals you wouldn't eat them

Daysofdreams · 29/09/2025 15:21

Dreadful to come to this country and impose this disgusting practice on the British people. Britain needs to toughen up and ban this along with certain other backward practices.

Don't eat it then literally no one is forcing you!!!

BallerinaRadio · 29/09/2025 15:23

I personally refuse to eat any meat that hasn't been killed on a goose feather pillow whilst being tickled to death.

Nah you think the animal cares how it's been killed once it's dead? It would rather be alive mate

The slaughter of animals? Wow strong case for veganism here I applaud that

myheadsjustmush · 29/09/2025 15:24

I walked past a Subway earlier on today. There was a huge poster in the window declaring "All our meat is Halal" 🤨

Give people the option - Halal / non Halal / vegetarian / vegan - don't just foist it on everyone without giving them a choice.

Yep, s/he’s on a different thread saying racist doesn’t mean anything anymore.

JHound · 29/09/2025 15:25

So to clarify a private business has decided
in 3 branches it makes sense to have only halal meat and in a further number it offers halal beef as an option.

And that is the end of the world?Just boycott a business that offers Halal meat if it annoys you that much.

Won't somebody think of the poor dead animals(!)

I'd add a Mrs Lovejoy gif but I just can't figure out how

ThatWildMintSloth · 29/09/2025 15:25

Businesses obviously find it more profitable to also cater for halal diets than lose out on those who refuse to eat it

99% of people wouldn't even be able to tell if they were eating halal or not a dead chicken is a dead chicken it all bloody tastes the same.

Where are you? If you’re in an area with a lot of Muslims it’s more profitable for the business to offer halal.

Are you saying you’d prefer the business not offer halal in an area with a lot of Muslims and go bust?

And often there is a halal and non halal Subway, as in my town.

And every Subway has vegetarian options!

Whenever I hear people talking about humane animal slaughter I always laugh.

I don’t think a humane KILLING is ever possible.

Aren’t they just trying to broaden their customer base? Nothing wrong with that.
Also genuine question - is halal meat different from other meat taste and texture wise?

Yeah like the cow is thanking the abbatoir workers for killing it so graciously 😂😂😂

Nobody's forcing you. Stop listening to the cunty old grifter and his band of merry cunts and use your brain for a minute.

Coffeeishot · 29/09/2025 15:29

I remember my uncle worked in an (non halal) abattoir as a cleaner he said it was the most horrific place and lasted 3 weeks these animals are distressed no amount of stunning will help them have a better death.

ComeHomeBeanie · 29/09/2025 15:30

Don’t most people realise that the vast majority of Indian/Turkish/Middle Eastern and many Far Eastern takeaways and restaurants in the UK serve halal meat? But when a large chain announces its use people are aghast. As PPs have said, most abattoirs are barbaric regardless of whether they are halal or not. Food outlets aren’t pandering to Muslims, they just want to be able to reach a wider customer base. It’s purely business.
