Starmer’s support for Palestine

Steph888 · 21/09/2025 15:39

Am I alone in seeing this as one of the darkest days in UK history?

Never before did I think I’d end up living under a government who reward terrorism.

Starmer and Labour are grotesque. History will not be kind to them. They have now empowered all terrorists and their supporters.

We deserve such better than this reprehensible government. They disgust me.

You know its not one or the other. You can think that what Hamas did is horrendous whilst also recognising the need to protect the ordinary men, women and children in Palestine

MissyB1 · 21/09/2025 15:42

Hes been much more supportive of the genocide than he has of the Palestinian people. This Government have continued to supply military equipment anf support to Israel despite all the hand wringing about Gaza.

Glitterybee · 21/09/2025 15:43

He has been complicit in genocide for far too long!

Much too little too late

Whatado · 21/09/2025 15:45

Personally I would find that fact they have willing and quite publicly supported a modern day version of Hitler undertake a genocide in the world view more disgusting.

The Israeli government make me want to believe hell is an actual place.

What has been allowed to happen in Palestine will go down in History as one of the vilest episodes of modern day history.

PollyPaintsFlowers · 21/09/2025 15:45

I agree with you. Not a word he now says condemning terrorism or honouring the victims of the Holocaust will be trusted, it'll be just empty words

We have an appeaser and a terrorist sympathiser for a Prime Minister

Whatado · 21/09/2025 15:47

Anyone who supports the Israeli government and then has the audacity to talk about the horrors of the holocaust in the same sentence is a hypocritic of the highest order.

QueenOfHiraeth · 21/09/2025 15:48

I think it is a very bad decision.
I hate what Israel is doing but rewarding terrorism is not going to change that and it is clear that a two state solution is not what the Palestinians want.
Apparently lawyers have warned that this decision could also leave the country open to huge reparations claims in the future so it may have serious repercussions

TheSandgroper · 21/09/2025 15:48

The Australian Prime Minister has gone to the UN to do exactly that as well. I despair.

Echobelly · 21/09/2025 15:49

I'm Jewish and think this is long overdue. Palestinians deserve a state, they don't deserve to have the possibility taken away because of the awful action a minority took on 7 October on their behalf.

If the Israeli government did not want there to be recognition of Palestine they could have retaliated without turning to genocide, without mass starvation. It has made me ashamed to feel people might associate me with Israel but most of all made me feel total horror of what they have done to Gaza, actions that betray the memory of my family members murdered by Nazis in the Shoah.

This is only a start, but it's something. I can't say I am optimistic, because Netanyahu has assured a generation of hatred towards Israel from any surviving Gazans - I really wouldn't blame them.

What absolute nonsense.

It should have happened decades ago and then we might not be in the mess we are in now.

To equate the Palestinian people with Hamas is like equating the Irish people with the IRA.

It’s LONG overdue. There should be UN oversight in Gaza and the West Bank urgently - Israel is a rogue state.

Comedycook · 21/09/2025 15:51

It's a very disappointing decision imo.

This sums it up perfectly for me.

Swiftie1878 · 21/09/2025 15:52

It’s about time. Kow-towing to Israel has moved things to where we are now in the Middle East - a genocide unfolding as we all sit and watch.
The two state solution has been ‘talked about’ for decades. If we now actually acknowledge both states, there’s a foundation to build from.

This is not rewarding terrorists. It’s acknowledging an intolerable problem in the region and taking steps to address it.

Spiritofeden87 · 21/09/2025 15:53

Also, the U.K. was in the minority NOT acknowledging the Palestinian state globally.

Spiritofeden87 · 21/09/2025 15:56

Also “darkest days in UK history”- talk about a ridiculous overreaction.

Tens of thousands of children have been maimed and killed in Gaza in the last 18 months.

Seriously, get a perspective.

You are in a minority.

150 countries now formerly recognise the state of Palestine. That is a vast majority of the world.

We are in very good company.

Croakymccroakyvoice · 21/09/2025 15:59

I don't know what the answer is but I'm fairly sure it's not starving children in Gaza...

Have you had a read of UK history? The slave trade, manufacturing multiple famines, concentration camps, mass killings and this is one of the darkest days?!

This. You can also be a friend of Isreal & dislike Nethenyahu

MyLimeGuide · 21/09/2025 16:02

We all knew he was an absolute moron didn't we?! Hes fucked up big time here though. 1.0 to terrorism.

They literally voted in Hamas to govern them. The parallels with the IRA are ridiculously disingenuous.

‘Darkest day in history’? Hardly. A little perspective on actual history wouldn’t hurt, perhaps over a cup of tea.

I am glad the UK will finally recognise the State of Palestine. It’s long overdue and a step in the right direction.

Like the hostages should be free I assume?
