Been on today!

SkankingWombat · 14/09/2025 20:54

The temperature drop means we've all had our jumpers and fluffy socks on, but it isn't cold enough for the heating yet.
However... the dampness is a problem. I've had the dehum running all week where the washing is drying, which has helped a bit, but the whole house now feels a bit damp. I'm WFH tomorrow whilst DH is in the office, so I'll be popping it on for a few hours to dry the place out (he won't have it on until some arbitrarily chosen date).

SerendipityDiamond · 14/09/2025 20:55

Yes it’s lovely.

Actually, a jumper will solve it. Tour nose is cold because your body is using energy to keep your core and your organs warm and withdrawing circulation a bit from the extremities. Ergo, put a jumper (and a hat) on and your nose will warm up.

Sorry that doesn’t work for me

WWomble · 14/09/2025 20:55

No, been tempted, especially in the damp chilly early mornings!

pinkbackground · 14/09/2025 20:56

Electric blanket on - does that count?!

Bufftailed · 14/09/2025 20:56

No way. End of October.

AnneElliott · 14/09/2025 20:59

No - I try and hold out until October half term! But it’s still warm here - I had the backdoor open for most of the day.

GleisZwei · 14/09/2025 21:03

MoominMai · 14/09/2025 20:40

Yes - the nose! How does one get around that?! One winter when the heating had broken, I actually bought a little knitted nose cover you tie sound the back of your head! 😅

I knitted a balaclava once, with basically eye and mouth openings.....cosy, but apparently also scary/embarrassing/ridiculous.....🤣🤣🤣

Honestly, I’ll probably invest in a good quality balaclava this year (as I’m not skilled enough like clever you to make my own!). My house is huge and always cold. I WFH so I need a robust strategy to deal with the pending winter without bankrupting myself with fuel bills!

HippeePrincess · 14/09/2025 21:08

no, we haven’t shut any of our windows yet, I put the summer clothes away and I popped on a cardi at some points today. Midlands so not in any way cold enough for heating til probably the end of October.

jennygeddes · 14/09/2025 21:13

Put it on for an hour this morning when it was 17° in my poorly insulated house. Red wine and oodie means no need this evening!

narcASD · 14/09/2025 22:08

no but at this rate with my menopausal sweats it’ll need to be -10 before it comes on, I’ve still got the fan on in the bedroom at night.

mamagogo1 · 14/09/2025 22:11

Still warm here in the sw, wet but 17 degrees today

mamagogo1 · 14/09/2025 22:12

I’m sitting in a vest top and jeans - I’m no martyr it goes on when inside the house goes below 18 consistently but it’s 22 inside today

Itdoesntmatteranyway · 14/09/2025 22:14

Yes here in Yorkshire. House is being renovated so cold as no carpets etc. We don’t do a lot of luxuries (eating out etc) but I won’t be cold so heating is our luxury I suppose (which feels bleak to admit)

bringonthebermonths · 14/09/2025 23:00

Not intentionally but I did notice the radiators were warm on Friday - set to come on below 17 but I wasn't feeling very cold so I might need to turn it down to 16. Still got all windows open and sleeping with fan on maybe 4/7 nights! I have stopped leaving the bifold doors open all day though...

To be clear I'm not being competitive I just can't stand being hot, I much prefer being snuggled under a blanket in the evenings and being able to easily remove it if I get warm than the whole house being too warm!

nellietheellie75 · 14/09/2025 23:02

Mines been on plenty of times. I hate being cold

Icequeen01 · 15/09/2025 07:52

I felt so cold the other evening that we lit our log burner. I have honestly never heard my little cat purr so loudly when she saw her beloved fire was lit! She didn’t move from it all night!

ishimbob · 15/09/2025 07:58

Yep. Went on today.

And yes I have a jumper on.

No, I am not going to wear a hat or a balaclava in my own home when I have central heating.

gingercat02 · 15/09/2025 08:09

Yep, DH is on blood thinners so feels the cold

Rainbow1901 · 15/09/2025 08:12

DH has admitted to switching on the heating when I was out over the weekend but then the stupid man is constantly in short sleeved shirts whereas I'll throw on a cardi or jumper.
I think the cat must have been cold last night as she was on our bed when I woke up this morning. 😺

TheChosenTwo · 15/09/2025 08:18

No but only because dh has stripped
out our old boiler in anticipation of installing an air source heat pump (don’t ask me what it is, I don’t understand!), we have an immersion for the hot water (don’t really understand that either 😂) but the heat pump will be going in over the next couple of weekends - thank fuck because I’m cold and don’t do being cold in my own home! Currently the room I’m in says it’s 22 but I’m sat under my heated blanket trying to warm up again. I’m a cold person, have always felt the cold.

Are you referring to my balaclava comment upthread? Lol, I made that for snowy/cold weather - the only time I've actually worn a hat inside was when our heaters were broken.

FiveBarGate · 15/09/2025 16:27

The cold feeling is definitely more connected to damp than outright temperature at this time of year.

The thermometer on my desk says it's 3 degrees warmer in here today than yesterday. But we've had torrential downpours and a jumper is needed.

Yesterday it felt really warm and I couldn't imagine needing heating (or even a jumper).
