Plugged in the electric heater into the youngest twos’ room last night as it seemed too cold. Thinking of moving them to a different room as the others were mostly fine

TATT2 · 14/09/2025 17:52

Our thermostat is currently set at16, and I've noticed a couple of mornings that the radiators have come on either o/n or early morning.
My DP has been putting his little fan heater on in the living room when I'm not there. I can't stand it. I've turned into my mother and now wear short sleeves all year round.
I keep telling DP he needs ti move around more 🤣

TeaandHobnobs · 14/09/2025 17:52

It does feel a bit chilly in the house this weekend - thermostat currently says 16, but normally we don’t have it any higher than 18.
I’ve suggested to everyone we are not having the heating on yet - instead everyone is wearing their oodies, slippers and putting an extra layer on the bed at night.

notacooldad · 14/09/2025 17:54

Me and Dh have had our first annual 'argument ' ( not really argument)
He said its not cold, put a jumper on. I said i don't like wearing jumpers in the house.
He said it's only September. I said that we need to go off the temperature, not the month!!
We had the same discussion last year, the year before that and so on. We will have this debate until which ever one of us dies first!

BogRollBOGOF · 14/09/2025 17:55

I've been out in 13⁰C pissing rain, and coming in to 18⁰C in the lounge was on the cool side after that.

I'm sitting under a thick throw but that does little to warm my nose up. I hate having a cold nose!

I'm not ready for an oodie yet... the constant static shocks aren't particularly enjoyable.

Anotherename · 14/09/2025 17:56

Tried to a few hours ago- bloody boiler won’t light ! Gas fire in lounge is on for a bit .

at least it’s happened in September and not December!

It's a strong arguement for not stoically holding out until an arbitary date when everyone else also makes the same discovery when it's gone bitterly cold and there's delays on repairs/ replacements.

Ours should be good for a while yet... it's predecessor expired during the coldest weather of last winter 🥶

@GleisZweiI am in Edinburgh and it’s freezing

It's funny, we're much further north and are normally colder sooner, but not this year!

I'm with DH regarding the jumper, if I'm honest, and if you're still cold then stick the heating on. I suppose if you're paying for it then it's up to you........

Whatwouldnanado · 14/09/2025 17:06

Yup. Throws and fluffy socks on the go. And crumble for tea. Ready to hibernate.

What will you do when its really cold?!

On these threads usually someone will declare they are still in shorts and t shirt and why dont you just put a jumper on etc. But if Im cold it’s always my nose that feels it first and a jumper wont solve that. Having said that we haven’t put the heating on yet.

BeeDavis · 14/09/2025 17:46

its absolutely nowhere near cold enough for the heating! Put a dressing down or hoodie on. You’ll all be moaning about your energy bills in a few months! Ours won’t go on til November! Hopefully even later than that!

Do you know the temperature everywhere?!

ginasevern · 14/09/2025 18:10

BellyPork · 14/09/2025 17:37

The plan is to split time between here and the UK.
But frankly, this thread is making me reconsider.

Don't do it! Although if you fancy a house swap.....?

YellowSubmarine994 · 14/09/2025 18:15

I debated it today when I woke up and outside was only 6 degrees, and inside was only 17 degrees. Made do with a blanket and it's warmer this evening I think. It's meant to drop quite a bit next weekend I think, but I try to leave the heating off until as close to Nov as possible for money sakes

onwardandupwards · 14/09/2025 18:17

No heating on here infact thanks to the joy that is menopause I doubt I will need it on until Dec 😂

Didimum · 14/09/2025 18:17

Put in on for first time yesterday for a quick blast. We’re in east England. Single glazed.

Anotherename · 14/09/2025 18:17

Update - hubby filled the pressure up / sent water round the system 🤷‍♂️ and we have heat !

Ooh. What a hissy fit.

PuppyMonkey · 14/09/2025 18:22

Too soon imho. Big thick cardigan and a throw on the sofa will see me through a few more weeks. And believe me, I’m dying to try the shiny new boiler we had installed this summer out. Our old one was 25 years old and I’m guessing not very efficient. Grin

stargirl1701 · 14/09/2025 18:23

Woolly socks and blankets are back out!

ScrambledEggs12 · 14/09/2025 18:24

I never understand these posts (both here and elsewhere on social media). I've had a thermostat since I moved out of home over 20 years ago....

Rainydayinlondon · 14/09/2025 18:24

Just for a couple of hours to take the chill off after all the rain.

Geneva12 · 14/09/2025 18:25

I did for an hour today, but only because we had all just got back home after standing around in the rain watching DD play football.

EverardDeTroyes · 14/09/2025 18:26

Im not one for putting the heat on unnecessarily usually, but I have spent a week in winter woolies and was still cold so, yes, heating went on this afternoon. It's thermostat controlled and the thermostat is set quite low so it will only come on if needed.

Namechangedagain999 · 14/09/2025 18:30

Sitting very comfortably on sofa on heated throw at level 3. When it needs to be level 9 in a couple of months then I will turn on the heating.

So do I, but I think a lot of us will just turn it off once it's reliably 18 degrees or above so as to not pay for the odd morning it's chillier in the autumn.
