So here we are- they have a suspect.
The very little we know about his politics suggests he was likely to be right wing, and came from a family/ culture that supported Trump. He also is said to be an introvert, in to video games , and possibly quite mentally unwell.

So there we have it- fancy that - when you live in a context where people have access to guns and some minority of people are not well, people get shot.

Nothing to do with the evils of the “left”. Nothing to do with trans people or “trans ideology”. Just senseless violence, because people who are not well have access to guns.

So what are we going to take/ learn from this?

Did this really need yet another thread ?

Regularmumm · 13/09/2025 20:16

Not the point of your thread but am I the only person who’d never heard of this man before this week?

smallpinecone · 13/09/2025 20:17

I wonder how many of these threads we need…

shellyleppard · 13/09/2025 20:17

@Regularmumm me neither. But whatever people's politics just let him rest in peace.....

Martharian · 13/09/2025 20:18

I’ve been shocked at the dismissiveness people have shown towards someone being murdered just because they don’t share the same opinions. That’s not including the outright glee and celebrations that others have opted for.

I disagreed with Kirk on almost everything but it’s been eye opening to see people’s reaction to his being killed.

Yes. because the previous were all started from the assumption that this had something to do with left wing political violence and particularly about trans issues. Seems like it’s got nothing to do with that at all.

We aren’t going to learn anything. And it will take another generation or two before the current situation in America filters out. That’s the way it works.

Kibble19 · 13/09/2025 20:23

Nothing will be learned. If scores of five and six year olds having their heads blown off their shoulders didn’t work, nothing will.

These American gun law debates will still be going on when we're all dead and buried. It’ll never change.

What do we actually know? Very little. What do we take from that? Fuck all

Onmytod24 · 13/09/2025 20:35

So he was gay. And?

This. Americas a lost cause. There’s nothing that will change things.

I will actually cone back to say I have been thinking about this a lot over the last few days. And also watched a fair bit of Charlie Kirk’s stuff.

I am starting to think it’s actually wrapped up deeply in their national psyche. The American hopes and dreams, and by extension hypothetical fears and nightmares. It is as if they do not live and value the present; or certainly they pin this as less important than the potential future.

You can see this in their abortion laws. That they value potential human life as having a higher value than actual living persons. And also in their gun laws. In that they value the right to protect themselves from a hypothetical tyrannical government as more important than actual living persons here and now. It’s all wrapped up in potential. Hopes and dreams, fears and nightmares. Not current reality.

According to his family he had been voicing left wing ideas at family gatherings even though the family were conservative.
His muttering concerned the family but I guess they didn’t think he would take it this far.

lifeturnsonadime · 13/09/2025 20:48

What are you basing your assumption on Tandora? Is it the fact his parents were Republican, because that's ridiculous!

Anyhow it seems he was living with a man who is transitioning, so perhaps that's why you're keen to suggest there is nothing to see here.

Pepperedpickles · 13/09/2025 20:50

Have you even read the news about it? His family was republican. He was not. He was left wing. The bullets had inscriptions on them which were anti fascist. I hated CK but if you’re going to get involved in the news about it all at least read the news / watch the news. It’s been all over the media.

Theunamedcat · 13/09/2025 20:52

Well that's that all wrapped up and neat

Quite.
I think this post was started by someone who wishes it was the things she has stated, rather than the information that is coming out, which is directly at odds with what she has written.

Multiply that by hundreds of thousands for a genocide….but silence 🤷‍♀️

FuzzyWolf · 13/09/2025 20:55

You’re right that there is little that we know. We need to know more because we can answer your question.

That’s not what The Guardian is reporting ..ultra right inscriptions on the bullets

Agree. Guns are too entrenched in US society for change to happen. Dozens of mass murders every year makes no difference. Depressing.
