Charlie Kirk- and the reality

So here we are- they have a suspect.
The very little we know about his politics suggests he was likely to be right wing, and came from a family/ culture that supported Trump. He also is said to be an introvert, in to video games , and possibly quite mentally unwell.

So there we have it- fancy that - when you live in a context where people have access to guns and some minority of people are not well, people get shot.

Nothing to do with the evils of the “left”. Nothing to do with trans people or “trans ideology”. Just senseless violence, because people who are not well have access to guns.

So what are we going to take/ learn from this?

Checking your source and its reliability:

”The Post has been criticized since the beginning of Murdoch's ownership for sensationalism, blatant advocacy, and conservative bias. In 1980, the Columbia Journalism Review stated that the "New York Post is no longer merely a journalistic problem. It is a social problem—a force for evil."

Rosedreaming · 13/09/2025 21:03

The 'reporting' that Tyler had a transgender partner has been retracted per CNN journalist Jessica Yellin.

Remember the false story that there were pro trans slogans on the bullets? Someone is pushing an agenda.

the slogans on the bullets are popular with the alt-right Groyper group, a group who are right wing but hate Charlie Kirk and had a self stated war on him and aim to disrupt his rallies.

The kid they're saying is Tyler's trans boyfriend is the roommate that turned over his text messages to the FBI. A single solitary fax news digital journalist claims she heard 'from sources' that Lance was Tyler's boyfriend who is trans and a furry. The post then claimed they heard this from law enforcement just like they falsely claimed about the pro trans slogans.

this appears to be based on Lance having slightly longer hair and wearing an animal onesie in one photo.

nothing else on Lances social media indicates he was gay, trans, a furry or Tyler's boyfriend. according to other reporting neighbours of theirs have said there was no indication to them that he was trans or Tyler's boyfriend.

Many posts with photos on Twitter talking about this aren't showing Lance but the same random person called Omar that they were trying to frame for the shooting itself a couple of days ago.

so all we actually know is he had a male roommate who wore a onesie once and who turned over suspect texts to the FBI.

The Hindustan times uses AI scraping to repost sensational articles for clicks - it's not a news source and doesn't write its own articles. There is absolutely zero verified information on this and reputable journalists are saying the reporting has been retracted much like the fake story about the bullet casings was. If there is any truth to it at all it hasn't been given by any official sources.

Every single article mentioning this says they got the info from the NY Post article.

I would not be particularly surprised if the killer was some nutjob alt-righter who saw Kirk as someone not as far-right as they thought he should be and/or decided that his death would be MAGA's Reichstag Fire.

Similarly I wouldn't be particularly surprised if the killer turns out to be some nutjob alt-left who saw Kirk as a figurehead for all that's wrong with American politics at the moment and wanted to send a message.

Nor do I think I'd be particularly surprised if the killer turns out to be a someone with severe mental health issues that are untreated because of the disaster of the US health system and who killed Kirk simply because the voices in his head told him to do so.

If you live in a country where there's more guns than people, the kind of people who should be allowed nowhere near firearms are going to get hold of them and use them to kill or injure people. It's desperately sad how many people get killed or injured by gun violence in the US.

3 out of of the 4 slogans on the bullets suggest someone on the absolute opposite end of the political spectrum to groypers. So I wouldn’t go around repeating “he sounds like an alt-right groyper” when you had little to no knowledge about groypers before today.

In fact, I wouldn’t go around confidently asserting anything about this guy at all. Everyone is racing to assign him to whatever their opponents’ side is, and everyone is falling for whatever half baked theory is currently convenient for them. Disappointing all round.

Not the point of your thread but am I the only person who’d never heard of this man before this week?

I hadn’t either but apparently the young ones knew who he was - 17, 18 and 19 year olds.

Hoardasurass · 13/09/2025 21:27

Anyahyacinth · 13/09/2025 20:56

That’s not what The Guardian is reporting ..ultra right inscriptions on the bullets

"Here fascist catch this" and another with the name of an Italian anti fascist song on it amongst other slogans.
If the guardian is claiming that they are ultra right wing slogans they are lieing because they are left wing antifa slogans

Hoardasurass · 13/09/2025 21:30

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 13/09/2025 20:53

Quite.
I think this post was started by someone who wishes it was the things she has stated, rather than the information that is coming out, which is directly at odds with what she has written.

Did this really need yet another thread ?

Yet you continue to click to read it…

Rosedreaming · 13/09/2025 21:40

let me help you.

'Here facist, catch - and then the symbols for a bomb from the helldiver video game' - Helldiver is a satirical facist society where you kill the heck out of each other. This quote followed by the symbols for the bomb from this game are used by alt-right groyper meme lords. It's not an antifa slogan.

Bella Ciao is an old Italian antifacist song that was used in the Fallout 6 video game and has been picked up for memes by - yep, Groyper memelords.

notices bulge owo is an unflattering meme about losers / furries used to mock them. It's not an antifa slogan.

if you can read this you're gay is a dumb teenage mocking line. It's not an antifa slogan.

Pepe the frog is an alt-right meme icon used to represent the most extreme alt right views.

Tandora · 13/09/2025 20:18

Yes. because the previous were all started from the assumption that this had something to do with left wing political violence and particularly about trans issues. Seems like it’s got nothing to do with that at all.

He came from a family of Trump supporters, but was he a Trump supporter himself? That’s not entirely clear yet. You can be in a family with opposing political leanings.

Pepperedpickles · 13/09/2025 21:41

deeahgwitch · 13/09/2025 21:23

I hadn’t either but apparently the young ones knew who he was - 17, 18 and 19 year olds.

And my 13 year old. And basically every younger person.

I think one of the things to come from this is we need to be more aware of what our young people are listening to. We’ve had it before with Andrew Tate but it’s far wider than that. I had heard of Charlie Kirk because I’m quite into politics and my family is American but I’m shocked at how many people on Mumsnet etc seem to have no idea who he is. We need to stop having a two tier political / media system where there are youth movements actively undermining mainstream politics and engaging with young people whilst the rest of us just read the mainstream news. It’s more powerful than people realise. These are the next generation of voters.

Ablondiebutagoody · 13/09/2025 21:44

You are just making this up

He just sounds like a very confused, messed up young man so far. Which is a given, I suppose.

And I personally wouldn't trust The Guardian any more than any other news source on this. It has its own very clear biases: it's not the paper it once was.

shellyleppard · 13/09/2025 20:17

@Regularmumm me neither. But whatever people's politics just let him rest in peace.....

Have you seen his widow's statement? She has zero desire to let Charlie rest in peace or to grieve in private. She has vowed to work for his cause and to continue his legacy. So it's a perfectly appropriate discuss these events. They're not going anywhere.

FOJN · 13/09/2025 21:57

Oh dear Tandora have you fallen victim to misinformation or been propagandised?

Have you seen the two news articles linked in this thread yet?

I believe the killer sent his trans partner messages on discord about where to retrieve the murder weapon from. The partner is cooperating with law enforcement.

Dweetfidilove · 13/09/2025 22:02

Not one lesson will be learnt.
*Politicians will wail about the disappointment the killer was 'one of them'?
*The killing will be chalked up to mental health issues.
*Americans will continue fighting for the right to bear arms.
*Europe will continue to be infected with the bug.
*Another Charlie will shoot to stardom.
*Hate, division and violence will continue to dominate the front pages.
*This shit will be recycled for generations.
