Fucking flags

1000 replies

xmaspud3 · 09/09/2025 15:01

I know this has probably been done to death on here and there will be lots of threads about it already but I cant be bothered to trawl through the site for them so here I am.

I’m so irritated by the England flags popping up everywhere. There has been an influx put up in my area over the last week, it seems to be increasing by the day. I don’t hate the flag, but I hate the fact it is being used to send a clear message by racists. People aren’t doing it to be patriotic they are doing it to be hateful towards those that they don’t feel ‘belong’ in their country.

I don’t want to see all of these flags in my area. If people are entitled to put them up then why am I not entitled to go and cut the fuckers down? And don’t get me started on the spray painting of public roundabouts and road signage by people who allegedly love their country so much that they are vandalising it at the expense of public money.

If I see one more person give a ‘big well done to whoever has erected the flags on xyz street’ on Facebook I will explode. Does anyone else feel ragey over it?

This is what I would like to know.
How would the OP feel if, instead of British/English flags being flown, they were all the flag of Palestine? My thinking would be that it’s not a problem.

Which was also the thinking of Birmingham Council. Apparently, the English/British flag is a health and safety hazard and needs removing but the Palestine flag isn’t.

That is my understanding of why this movement started.

Brum CC, the inept fuckers were found to have told their bosses they would only remove Palestinian flags, if police accompanied them. Of course, let's just ignore that. We don't want to explore reasons why the poor council workers would be threatened for doing their jobs. Nah, far easier to leave those flags up and cause more division.

As a Dane in the UK, this did make me laugh. They're not the sharpest spoons in the drawer, are they?

Saltires being used to express the same sentiment where I am.

The only place I've seen that so far is on Twitter (where anything goes, really). And specifically in relation to the Dundee story Of Which We May Not Speak but looks set to be a bit more nuanced than was originally reported.

I work in the east end of Glasgow @Butchyrestingface and there are streets and streets of them that have suddenly appeared over the past week

Saltires being used to express the same sentiment where I am. Utterly depressing.

OP, YANBU and I feel the same.

But tbh I think in getting angry about it, we are playing into the hands of those that are putting them up.

And council workers tasked with taking them down being threatened with violence. Feels like we've reached a tipping point in Scotland as well

Not in Dundee. Bit further north. Like I say, depressing.

This kind of naivety is either shocking or fake

THIS is why Reform are ahead in the polls.

I thought the king had died as they look a bit sad half way up the lamp posts.

Indeed, with them all at half mast.
Trump dead?
Farage dead?
Long ladders dead?

Yes because calling someone a racist or a knuckle dragger is an ‘opposing opinion’ Hmm

Don't forget 'thick as mince' and 'uneducated.' And then 'gammon' will be next.

Got my bingo card ready. 😆

I can see one thing though, the OP does NOT like people disagreeing with her.

Very common with the lefties. 😎

Och, that's such a shame. My fam were all from East End so I was well used to seeing the perennial (was going to say 'annual' but actually they seemed more frequent) marches and the UJ flying around certain pubs. But not nice to hear of the Saltire being used to stoke racial tensions.

The pearl clutchers couldn't give a rat's arse about the flags. It's just symbolic of their disdain for anybody daring to celebrate their heritage - if its not the right one.

Catpiece · 09/09/2025 15:43

Same as stirring up racial hatred is very common with the “righties”

The furore over flying bits of material is baffling. Imagine being more concerned about that than a schoolgirl being left humiliated because of a fascist teacher.

Can you really not see the potential connection between the two?

A1984 · 09/09/2025 15:08

I hate them too. They make me sad and scared. We are Jewish and my mum's family escaped Hitler two generations ago. I strongly object to the use of the flag of a country I love to signal racist values and populist victim blaming that to me are the opposite of what we're meant to stand for.

I'm Jewish too and I love seeing the Union Jack and St George's Cross flags. They are the flags of the country that gave my ancestors a home and I am proud to live in such a tolerant country.

There are lots of other flags which I find far more offensive, divisive and scary.

It's mad that people object to the flag of the country they live in. Very strange times.

Are you inside people’s heads. How do you know that they are racist? Or are you projecting your own prejudices and narrow mindedness onto others.

😂😂😂

Do you live under a rock? Are you unaware of the divisions in the country? Can you explain why in the aftermath of the anti asylum protests and Bell Hotel drama in Epping that all of these flags are suddenly being put up? Is it coincidence?

If you’re going to insult me at least have some awareness of what’s going on in the country.

I'm in Scotland. Think I'm safe.

If I were to see a St George's Cross flying here, I'd think some poor bastard had a death wish but didn't have the funds to shout a flight to Dignitas.

Immediate hair dryer treatment at the very least 😱

The ‘bingo card’ thing is just a way to dismiss opposing arguments without engaging with them.

It’s lazy and disingenuous.

Lazy and disingenuous- much like this thread.

I don’t object to the flag. Love to see it on VE Day, sports events and so on.

Object to it being spray painted onto roundabouts in racist protest. HTH.

Proud to be born in England. Makes me happy seeing them :) why shouldn't they be every here. Other countries have them up 🤷‍♀️

It's the racism and hatred behind them this time that's the problem.
