Fucking flags

I know this has probably been done to death on here and there will be lots of threads about it already but I cant be bothered to trawl through the site for them so here I am.

I’m so irritated by the England flags popping up everywhere. There has been an influx put up in my area over the last week, it seems to be increasing by the day. I don’t hate the flag, but I hate the fact it is being used to send a clear message by racists. People aren’t doing it to be patriotic they are doing it to be hateful towards those that they don’t feel ‘belong’ in their country.

I don’t want to see all of these flags in my area. If people are entitled to put them up then why am I not entitled to go and cut the fuckers down? And don’t get me started on the spray painting of public roundabouts and road signage by people who allegedly love their country so much that they are vandalising it at the expense of public money.

If I see one more person give a ‘big well done to whoever has erected the flags on xyz street’ on Facebook I will explode. Does anyone else feel ragey over it?

In your opinion, who can fly the flag without being labelled racist? How do we know Fred across the road is flying the flag because he’s ‘racist’ or flying the flag because he's celebrating VE Day? So in essence, it doesn’t matter why someone flies the flag, because everyone will assume they’re racist anyway….

Well if it is VE day and Fred is flying the England flag people will know why. Same as if Fred is flying the England flag for a sporting event. If Fred chooses to fly the England flag on his own premises fur any other reason, that is his right.

But if Fred is masked up and put attaching England flags halfway up lampposts, people will suspect he is a nasty little racist as well as those cheering him on.

Flying the flag on your own property is your own business.

Going out after dark and putting them on anything that stands still is populist nationalism rooted in racism.

Admiring said populist nationalism and not caring that it's racist, is racist.

Hope that helps.

You’re correct, racism IS losing its stigma and people ARE becoming more comfortable about expressing it openly.

I am sure there must be some Reform voters who are well educated, but it seems that they do a lot better amongst people with a lower level of education.

"Reform UK also did significantly better amongst those with a lower level of education receiving 23% of the vote amongst this group, compared to just 8% amongst those with a higher level of education."

https://yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/49978-how-britain-voted-in-the-2024-general-election

I think this may have been true in the 2024 elections. But things have moved on at rapid speed since then. There are many more people, of all classes, who are now choosing Reform. I will say I haven’t decided to vote Reform, because atm their policies on other issues don’t necessarily align with my views.

I didn’t call you anything. I asked if you could see the racism.

You genuinely can’t see the racism. You’ve made that clear.

People of all political views are capable of seeing racism. Why do you think only socialists see it?

And racism is never boring. It’s horrific. Surely you agree. Kids bewildered as to why they and their mums and dads are being intimidated, harassed and attacked, purely because of how they look. Do you condone that?

But your view doesn’t align with many people voting against flags on here. Most will say whether flying a flag on your own property or decorating a random lamp post, it’s equally racist.

GrievingDaughter123 · 09/09/2025 21:54

Anyone else noticed that many of the Union flags are upside down and being flown at half-mast? eg half way up lampposts.

Given that this is considered a distress signal at sea or a sign of disrespect, I'm guessing it wasn't the message the racists wanted to send.

Well as these proud patriots are sneaking around at night and sticking them up in a hurry they probably haven’t give it much thought. Not that there’s a lot of thinking going on.

Sorry, just realised i missed your post earlier

but yeah, i live in a seaside town in a military area and there are flags in the town centre and in people’s gardens…and no, i don’t think they are racist

someone painting on a mini roundabout in the dead of night may be racist 🤷🏻

So even though people on this thread have said how uncomfortable it makes them feel, people have shared information on Operation raise the Colours being organised by the Right Wing extremists you still refuse to even give it a second thought!

Really?

I've come to the conclusion there is no point in trying to get people to read other posts when they just don't want to hear it.

This thread, with posters telling others when and where they should fly their flags and for what reason, has convinced me to buy two tomorrow.
Front and back of our home.

No bullies are going to tell me whether or not I can fly an England flag or UnionJack.

There are 2 people who have harassed, stalked and been found guilty of hate crime against me because I am EU citizen, and they have put the flags up outside their property or well, hanging out of a window havent bothered getting a flag pole. I have never been bothered by English flag before, I do feel like it is aimed at foreigners in this current climate to make us feel unwelcome.
