Fucking flags

xmaspud3 · 09/09/2025 15:01

I know this has probably been done to death on here and there will be lots of threads about it already but I cant be bothered to trawl through the site for them so here I am.

I’m so irritated by the England flags popping up everywhere. There has been an influx put up in my area over the last week, it seems to be increasing by the day. I don’t hate the flag, but I hate the fact it is being used to send a clear message by racists. People aren’t doing it to be patriotic they are doing it to be hateful towards those that they don’t feel ‘belong’ in their country.

I don’t want to see all of these flags in my area. If people are entitled to put them up then why am I not entitled to go and cut the fuckers down? And don’t get me started on the spray painting of public roundabouts and road signage by people who allegedly love their country so much that they are vandalising it at the expense of public money.

If I see one more person give a ‘big well done to whoever has erected the flags on xyz street’ on Facebook I will explode. Does anyone else feel ragey over it?

I thought the king had died as they look a bit sad half way up the lamp posts.

Dangermoos · 09/09/2025 15:21

There's nothing stopping you from cutting them down, is there? Is there a reason you've brought your frustrations here? Oh wait ...

To be honest, I think the silent majority agree with you.

Deal 😊

I think they look quite jolly.
I haven’t seen any evidence anywhere of them being put up by racists.

People who have failed to note the racist intention of those who have erected England flags must walk around with their head up their arse . . .

JohnBullshit · 09/09/2025 15:24

Touch wood, but the fad seems to be fading away here. Locals aren't on the whole very politically motivated, and after a flurry of Reform goading during a local council election attention from both parties has wandered elsewhere. Paint on the roads has been rained off, and actual flags that were removed or blown away haven't been replaced yet. People who normally display flags at all times continue to do so correctly, and that's fine. It's the amateur ones that bug me. Whatever the purported motivations, it looks so half-arsed. I can't believe anyone persuading themselves that something that looks so shit shows pride in their country.

WhereIsMyJumper · 09/09/2025 15:22

Deal 😊

I must remind myself of the fascist, who told a schoolgirl she couldn't celebrate her British culture. Maybe people should vent their anger at the source of a problem.

Au contraire, we leave that to the saviours.

Proud to be born in England. Makes me happy seeing them :) why shouldn't they be every here. Other countries have them up 🤷‍♀️

No, other countries do not have flags cable tied half way up lamp-posts or daubed across road signs. It is graffiti and vandalism with a very threatening and divisive message.

DadJoke · 09/09/2025 15:25

The Venn diagram of knuckle-draggers who hate refugees and people who put flags up in this context is pretty much a circle.

There are flags everywhere without these connotations, but we all know what these ones are about.

It hasn’t been our culture, aside of sporting and royal events, to have flags out.

You are right, other countries fly them proud -on official flag poles! not hastily attached to lampposts, bridges and sprayed on roundabouts. Looks tacky to me.

Knuckledragger ✔️ ✅️

TheignT · 09/09/2025 15:26

I fear it's spreading. Saw two people on disability scooters draped in union jacks, English and Scottish flags. It actually looked dangerous as they were big and in danger of getting caught in the wheels. Then a man draped In a huge Israel flag. That on top of all the ones on flagpoles. Oh I forgot the county flags.

I'm thinking of making flag bingo cards for the GC to keep them amused

Oh I forgot the flags the developers have put up where they are building a new estate, they also have a pride flag.

I'm feeling dizzy.

Pezdeoro41 · 09/09/2025 15:26

Totally agree. It's not the flag, it's that this campaign is specifically in response to migration - that's the issue. For any unaware of that, look it up.

No, the flag isn't racist, but it is when accompanied by slogans like "we are full" as it has been in our town.

That said, at least when it's on houses you know who to avoid... :)

Butchyrestingface · 09/09/2025 15:11

I'm in Scotland. Think I'm safe.

If I were to see a St George's Cross flying here, I'd think some poor bastard had a death wish but didn't have the funds to shout a flight to Dignitas.

Scottish parliament won't let you in with a Scottish flag on your tshirt.

Do. Not. Do. This.

A friend of a friend did this. A video of it with their name, address and family details was circulated on X. There were serious, credible threats made.

LakieLady · 09/09/2025 15:28

I hate them too. They remind me of National Front marches in the 70s. And far from making me feel proud, they make me feel angry. Their purpose is not to celebrate what is great about this country, but to intimidate, and to signal racism and xenophobia.

I live in a Green/Lib Dem voting town. Our local shop used to sell more Guardians than all the other papers put together. We have an active refugee support group that has been in existence for at least 15 years. Some fucker in the road opposite mine has put up a Union flag in the last 10-14 days. If they were merely expressing their patriotism, why has it only just appeared?

I drove past it earlier, to see if it would be easy to remove, but it appears to be attached to a metal or carbon fibre pole, and is behind a high hedge. It gives me the rage.

youalright · 09/09/2025 15:28

I love seeing the flags where in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 just like if I visit other countries I love seeing their flags and them being proud of their country

hattie43 · 09/09/2025 15:29

I love seeing them . We have been suppressing them for so long it feels like we’re breaking out in patriotism and can at last be proud to be British / English .

W0tnow · 09/09/2025 15:29

I used to love a bit of flag waving. Not anymore. I’m Australian and the Aussie flag flag wavers symbolise rampant jingoism to me now. It’s embarrassing.

Did they now. Thungberg would be most proud of such an act of defiance.

DontLikeMahoganyFurniture · 09/09/2025 15:29

I've recently returned from beautiful Switzerland and there were Swiss flags absolutely everywhere.

Are they racist too OP?

This kind of naivety is either shocking or fake
