Husband has extreme right wing views

Not sure if this is the right place to post as it's not an AIBU but more of I think my husband is being and I'm not sure what to do about it.

He's getting caught up in some quite extreme right wing views in regards to migrants. Complains about how they're coming in, being housed in hotels, paid allowances etc. with no checks and how crime rates such as rape are now ten fold etc. He thinks Trump is great 😪 He's very intelligent so I'm not sure how he's managed to get caught up in this extremist view point.

WWYD?

LTB

LavenderBlue19 · 24/08/2025 20:35

Leave him.

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/08/2025 20:36

I couldn't live with that personally. Others will, no doubt, disagree.

Unescorted · 24/08/2025 20:36

First time for this.. LTB

Agreed. The LTB phrase is thrown about far too often on here, but this really is a deal breaker.

luckylavender · 24/08/2025 20:38

No way could I live with that.

blueluce85 · 24/08/2025 20:39

I love that the responses are 100% aligned....I agree...LTB he will never change! He is a truly horrible person

bozzabollix · 24/08/2025 20:39

Nope couldn’t tolerate that either.

HelpMeUnderstandPolitics · 24/08/2025 20:41

Whilst I see everyone's point, I don't feel that it's worth throwing my marriage away for. We have children and a otherwise happy home.

I think this message is being spread far and wide. A lot of people are being dragged in, bit maybe it’s always been there?

I think you have to agree to disagree. Either have an intelligent conversation or leave him to rant to friends.

Will it be a happy home when he’s outside a hotel screaming at people ?

PermanentTemporary · 24/08/2025 20:43

I’d be unable to disguise what a twat I thought he was being. I guess he might leave me after the twentieth time I told him to sod off with his stupid nonsense.

HelloHellNo · 24/08/2025 20:43

I would leave him. Our core values wouldn't align. The only thing different about me and any asylum seeker is that I was lucky enough to be born somewhere safe, free from war and persecution.

These bigots don't have an issue eating foreign food, going of foreign holidays, drinking foreign booze, being treated by foreign doctors.

arethereanyleftatall · 24/08/2025 20:44

its quite normal to move from the left in your twenties/thirties when you have all these ideals over towards the right as you become the ones paying for it all with your taxes. It’s fairly standard.

He's not involved in any of the protesting (and won't be).

Are you happy to have your children exposed to all this?

Having children is even more reason to leave him. Do you really want them growing up thinking those kind of views are ok?

MySweetMaggie · 24/08/2025 20:46

Personally, if you have a good marriage and he's good to you, I would just be tolerant to his different ideas and focus on what you do align with. The world is very chaotic right now, with lots of polarising views and everyone is prone to black and white thinking. There are always shades of grey in every debate.

blubberyboo · 24/08/2025 20:47

Is it really "extremist' for a person to complain about something in politics that is on the news and being discussed by media and politicians??

From what you have said he hasn't expressed words of violence or going out on protests, rallying groups or joining them on marches etc. Has he been doing this?Is he participating in civil disobedience

Have you countered his viewpoints with other opinion/evidence? That's what most married couples do when they disagree on something.
I wouldn't just jump on the advice being thrown on here about your marriage.

Fuck me. What shit is he feeding your kids? What are they learning from him? Is he only concerned about brown foreigners or are all foreigners an issue for him?

OhNoNotSusan · 24/08/2025 20:48

my own dh has spent ages watching terrible youtube about migrants and gb news
it is hard to miss
but we dont discuss it
i just tell him it is unhealthy to watch!

Don't be absurd.

TheFairyCaravan · 24/08/2025 20:49

He’d be needing to find somewhere else to live if he was married to me. I absolutely would not tolerate that.

ByMintOrca · 24/08/2025 20:50

Hysterical responses. There is a lot of fear about how immigration is a threat and it's not all indisputable. You can be married and have different points of view. He may be ranting and genuinely worried. Just agree to disagree.

OhNoNotSusan · 24/08/2025 20:51

he is not horrible,
there are millions of people feeling this way, putting england flags up
just dont rise to it op,
