Confronted swimmer for pool hygiene

My gym has a pool which I’m a regular user of - there are visible signs stating you must shower prior to going in the pool or using the spa facilities.

This afternoon, I witnessed a woman exit the toilet after spending a few minutes in there, wash her hands and proceed to poolside. She did not shower and went straight in to the pool which was busy with families in being the summer holidays.

I (very politely) pointed out to her that there is a requirement to shower prior to using the pool and she simply shrugged her shoulders and looked away.

I wouldn’t usually have said anything, but it’s the fact I know she was using the toilet (and for that length of time, it was clearly not for a pee!) so for me it shows a complete lack of disrespect. Before anyone asks, I know she was in there for that long as they are visible from the changing area.

Can you believe the cheek of some people!!

Sounds grim
BUT .. people having a shower before going into the pool, generally just stand there for a few minutes and have a quick rinse ?
if someone like this woman has a filthy arse after having a poo that quick rinse won’t touch the sides …
thank god for chlorine ! And oblivion of what dirty body crumbs in the pool (swamp)

Elizabeth1000 · 06/08/2025 21:02

If she has shit on her arse, covered by a costume, a quick tinkle of shower water won’t even touch it. You’ll have to hope that she wiped her arse properly and washed her hands (which she did).

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/08/2025 21:04

She may have had her shower at home. Also no one likes being called out and dictated to so she was hardly going to run back with her tail between her legs and jump into the shower.

Theolittle · 06/08/2025 21:15

I doubt very much that a quick rinse under a shower with no soap would do anything to improve pool hygiene

BridgetofKildare · 06/08/2025 21:16

In some countries ( eg Canada) the expectation is that you shower naked and use soap, Most pools have shower cubicles to encourage this.
A quick rinse in a costume really makes little or no difference.

Of course a shower at home isn’t sufficient - and certainly not after an emptying of the bowels!

Do you think if she stands under a shower for a minute for a quick rinse that will clean her bum?

YouWillFindMeInTheGarden · 06/08/2025 21:22

A shower in a swimming costume with no washing and no soap?

wont make a bit of difference

you are being ridiculous

JockTamsonsBairns · 06/08/2025 21:22

How would standing under a shower wearing a swimming costume make any difference to the cleanliness of her arse?

Stichintime · 06/08/2025 21:23

Reminds of the days when you had to walk though a murky disinfectant foot bath before entering the pool. I dont think a quick rinse without soap does much cleaning.

Mademetoxic · 06/08/2025 21:24

Why were you timing her in the toilets?

I am imagining you saying this in high pitched, outraged tones, something like Lady Button from Ghosts.

cestlavielife · 06/08/2025 21:24

You actually don't know what she did in the toilet.
Stop watching and timing other people

Do you think people are washing their buttholes in the communal pre pool shower?!

GoodVibesHere · 06/08/2025 21:25

YABU

You can't get naked and have a proper hot shower with soap and sponge and an all-over body clean in the showers they have at the poolside. It's a pointless token gesture really, the whole 'must shower before entering pool' thing.

TeflonMom · 06/08/2025 21:25

As other have said, the quick rinse under a shower before swimming won’t clean a dirty arse so is a bit pointless, in my view.

The pool is full of chlorine to sanitise it.

Babies and toddlers piss and sometimes shit in pools. You would hope a swim nappy would contain it but particles might escape.

You can shower after swimming to clean off other people’s shit, piss, snot and skin cells.

EchoedSilence · 06/08/2025 21:27

There are some ridiculous threads on MN today. Have we been invaded?

ForLoveNotMoney · 06/08/2025 21:29

This is 100% a wind up.

TheSaltedCaramelPath · 06/08/2025 21:29

It’s the men who get a good sweat on in the sauna and then go in the pool “to cool off” without showering that get me, every single day - so the rest of us have to swim head-down in their sweat. Plenty of signage…..all disregarded.

Stuffedpillow · 06/08/2025 21:30

We have people come from the sauna straight to the pool, despite all the signs. The grimmest though is the member of staff who having finished his work, washes out his shorts in the swimming pool, then rings them out and hangs them over the dc woggles and goal posts to dry. I only ever go first thing in the morning in the hope the chlorine clears it out overnight.

Getitgirl · 06/08/2025 21:31

peak Mumsnet this😂petty woman makes petty comment to a stranger - one with an apparent dirty backside - and tells anonymous strangers

People are dirty but policing those going to the toilet is a bit much, I have to say.

What were you expecting her to do. Pull her costume down and scrub her arse crack in the shower for you to inspect to make sure she’s sufficiently clean? This a grown women I’m sure she knows how to wipe her backside after having a poo.

Maybe just do some swimming instead of people watching and these things won’t bother you enough to post on Mumsnet.

Where in Canada is that?. I swim weekly and have never done this or know anyone that does.

dangerornot · 06/08/2025 21:38

The OP is either someone who is totally weird or someone who in addition to being totally weird has coprophilia 🙄
