Confronted swimmer for pool hygiene

My gym has a pool which I’m a regular user of - there are visible signs stating you must shower prior to going in the pool or using the spa facilities.

This afternoon, I witnessed a woman exit the toilet after spending a few minutes in there, wash her hands and proceed to poolside. She did not shower and went straight in to the pool which was busy with families in being the summer holidays.

I (very politely) pointed out to her that there is a requirement to shower prior to using the pool and she simply shrugged her shoulders and looked away.

I wouldn’t usually have said anything, but it’s the fact I know she was using the toilet (and for that length of time, it was clearly not for a pee!) so for me it shows a complete lack of disrespect. Before anyone asks, I know she was in there for that long as they are visible from the changing area.

Can you believe the cheek of some people!!

This has to be a joke right? Either that or a reverse. I detest the phrase ‘Karen’ but, well…

DoubleDoubleDown · 06/08/2025 22:56

@nomoreshiteyeah it was pretty gross, my kids thought it was hilarious. They'll probably still be talking about it in 10yrs time!.

Stichintime · 06/08/2025 21:23

Reminds of the days when you had to walk though a murky disinfectant foot bath before entering the pool. I dont think a quick rinse without soap does much cleaning.

I had completely forgotten about that!

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 06/08/2025 22:57

The older I get, the more I can’t stomach public swimming pools and all the horrors floating about 🥴

Kelly1969 · 06/08/2025 22:57

Mademetoxic · 06/08/2025 21:24

Why were you timing her in the toilets?

I think it’s a fake post, no one is this ridiculous

Mumrant123 · 06/08/2025 23:00

YABU
You are one of those people OP!!
You say there are families in the pool, high chance one of those babies has a poo contained in their nappies!!!

gobshite23 · 06/08/2025 23:00

If you are this precious then a public swimming pool is not the place for you. They are full of other people’s filth, that’s why we use chlorine.

I find it odd that you took so much notice of the time she spent in the toilet. She might not have even been pooing, perhaps she was just having a little sit down.

WonderfulWoman · 06/08/2025 23:02

Why were you paying attention to how long she was in the lavatory for?

Screamingabdabz · 06/08/2025 23:04

This has put me off public swimming baths more than ever 🤢

Tweedledumtweedle · 06/08/2025 23:06

So now we have shower police clocking the time spent in the toilet stall

Moveoverdarlin · 06/08/2025 23:06

There is a similar sign at my local pool and yet no one ever ever does it.

Chill out. Whilst you’re watching how long this woman was taking in the toilet, there was probably at least 2 kids pissing in the pool. Another bloke will be scratching his ass and releasing all sorts of pooh particles.

If you are genuinely this germ phobic, public swimming pools are probably not the best place for you.

OMG.

OK everyone. Let's see everybody's cards. Aquarobics today, in a splash pool with 15 other people, all moderately geriatric and I was by far the youngest there.

I peed.

Twice.

Franjipanl8r · 06/08/2025 23:07

Whilst this woman’s anus might have caused you some alarm, the reality is it won’t make you ill. It’s all the sterile, plastic, formaldehyde ridden home interior products that cause long term health issues, not natural bodily particles in a pool.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/08/2025 21:41

What? Where, exactly?
I'm in YVR. Never seen that.
Swimmer here since childhood.
All I've ever routinely seen is a quick walk under the shower. Lots of people skip it altogether.

Yep not a thing in Toronto either! And Canadians would definitely tell you…

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/08/2025 22:15

I’m really lost now. How do you know she opened her bowels.

Op was sat outside, counting the splashes and timed how how thoroughly she wiped her arse!
ffs get a life LindaYog and either stop stalking people at the pool or stop making up BS!

MsPug · 06/08/2025 23:10

What's with all the dodgy posts

KatieDidIt · 06/08/2025 23:10

A swimming pool is a soup of human everything. The chlorine is there for a reason. I go swimming at least 3 times per week. Also have a compromised immune system. I haven’t been ill from it, ever. I would of loved you to of approached me..

Is this another fake post?
It seems too ridiculous to be real

I don't know, I once had some pearl clutcher loudly comment about DS wearing his crocs for swimming and how dirty and disgusting it was in that projected voice in a mock private conversation with her son clearly aimed for us to hear.

The crocs had been put through the washing machine to make sure all removable dirt was off.

DS was wearing them because he had agonising plantar faciitis and could not walk barefoot on tiles.

Annoyingly, I didn't get chance to correct her nasty little passive aggressive dig because the area was heaving on lesson change and we were walking in opposite directions.

It's easier to shower properly at home before a swim than have a quick covered rinse in the communal showers.

For the swimming lessons there can be up to 65 children coming out of 5 stages of lessons, and 65 children going in.
8 communal showers does not cover pre and post-shower for all!

Helpmechooseausername · 06/08/2025 23:14

ByBlueLion · 06/08/2025 22:09

i once was indeed told off by a woman in a communal shower in Iceland as you are expected to have a proper soap and scrub naked shower before going in the hot pools.

God, me too!! Many years ago at the blue lagoon I didn't have a long enough shower before going in and was literally told to strip off and was actually hosed down!! I was so embarrassed but also keen to go in so just went along with it in shock!!

But yeah, public swimming pools are gross. Always wash properly when you get out and don't put the water in your mouth!!

And OP, live your life the way you want to add let others do the same. You can't correct everyone else so it's not worth even trying!

UsingAMansNameInAWomensWorld · 06/08/2025 23:22

Are you also the OP who timed her builder in the loo?

IdaGlossop · 06/08/2025 23:26

FreddysFingers · 06/08/2025 22:34

She might have been emptying her menstrual cup or changing her tampon.

Or manipulating her haemorrhoids.
