What will I do on those late nights or mid afternoons before pick up?? Just use my imagination, like a prehistoric cave woman???

😡🙈😡

The UK is launching ‘porn age checks’. This is what will happen

The UK is about to launch some of the strongest checks on pornography in the world.

The problem is, it won't work. Setting up a vpn takes a couple of minutes and bypasses the block.

The harm that porn causes teenagers can only be mitigated through education and parenting. Having those difficult conversations about the dangers.

Having this block in might lead parents to think that porn is inaccessible online, and give them a false sense of security

Many don't care and cba to learn about how to use blockers etc. they would much prefer everyone to lose their rights and continue to give kids smart phones.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 26/07/2025 07:39

As with many things governments do, it is to be seen to do something rather than actually tackling a problem.

This will stop practically nobody. It is ridiculously simple to bypass.

DonnaBanana · 26/07/2025 08:07

How long till some scammers launch a new free porn site about something mildly embarrassing, accept people’s IDs for proof they’re adults (which they’ll now do willingly because of this law), then just blackmail them instead saying they’ll tell their family or boss. I give it a month or two.

GreenIsMyFavoriteColour · 26/07/2025 08:53

I just visited a porn site I believe to be "mainstream" to see what happens without a vpn. Turns out the validation is photo.

So I put my "teenager" head on and asked myself where the nearest source of an adult face is. There are two. My wedding photo in the lounge and my graduation photo in the spare room. Basically my treasured memories are now my kids porn access code. 😡

They're going in the loft.

It won’t stop kids accessing inappropriate material. Just like they access vapes, films and drugs. Teenagers will find a way.

An older sibling will grant access. Or a parent won’t care and will allow access. Or they will get their tech savvy friend to get round it. Or use a stolen credit card. Or their parents ancient email address (which is linked to their parents finances). Or the dark web. Or 18 year old brother accesses porn, 14 year old records using his phone. It’s not hard.

Or the techie kids will help their peers. The top three or four kids in year 7 IT are very competent, never mind year 10.

Wait until drunk naive 18 year olds upload their passport and end up being blackmailed. Has that been risk assessed?

Or 13 year old goes into the dark web and accesses more than porn?

Or parents bank is accessed due to a child using the parents ancient email address?

This is about controlling what adults can access hidden as a concern for kids. If they were concerned for kids there wouldn’t be a rape gang scandal as authorities would have acted long ago. And rapes wouldn’t be rocketing in number.

You don’t need to go in the dark web to ‘access more than porn”. There are at any one time thousands of videos on Porn Hub of children (the youngest was 3) and women being raped, women being suffocated and choked. Porn Hub have been forced to remove 90 % of their content because they could not prove age or consent. But new videos appear daily.

This won’t stop adults and teens using vpns and fake IDs but it might stop 7-12 year old boys accessing it. That’s where the real concern lies. Very young boys are accessing very violent, often crime scene pornographic content and this is shaping them and their future. It has to stop and this is one step in the right direction.

There is a very long way to go. Google Traffickinghub or Laila Mickelwait for more on this. She is the absolute hero behind this.

13,000 geolocated images of women, (submitted for account verification) released into the wild:

https://www.independent.co.uk/tech/tea-app-safe-space-women-data-hacked-b2796390.html

It wasn't even hacked. The images of the driving licences were stored in a folder that was open to the Internet. The "hackers" just had to go to the right url. There was no security at all

An abysmal attempt at keeping users data safe.

InsomniacA · 26/07/2025 13:30

OP (and every one else who likes PornHub), please read this article. I do not believe you will ever watch online porn again after you do, or if you continue, then you are a monster.

Why don't you read a book instead.

I was listening to a discussion on the issue on Radio 2 - about 60% of children viewing porn do so by accident - it will stop those, which is more the point really.

FeetLikeFlippers · 26/07/2025 18:10

Why do people post stuff like this in AIBU? You want us to vote on whether or not you are being reasonable to tell us something? It makes no sense.

youreactinglikeafunmum · 24/07/2025 23:51

I dont want to have to use my passport to watch Owen Gray 😭

Why? Surely it matters not a jot if you're an adult.

Kids need protection from porn. It's deeply harmful on many many levels

Jayne35 · 26/07/2025 18:12

Good. About time.

Catsandcannedbeans · 26/07/2025 19:12

Can’t wait for the data leak where we find out what freaky porn all the MPs are watching. The tabloids are salivating.

TwinklySquid · 26/07/2025 19:48

Eastendboysandwestendgirls · 24/07/2025 23:48

What classes as porn though? Surely half the internet is tits and ass nowadays, they can't restrict the whole lot. I'm not about to spend the next week testing the theory, but as a teacher who spends bloody ages sifting through shit on primary children's phones, I feel overinvested.

It’s not just porn. Any NSFW posts on Reddit are banned- I clicked on someone’s profile today who had posted a lot in suicide prevention and that was flagged . I had to do Face ID .

carchi · 26/07/2025 20:00

Then upload your ID and carry on as normal.
Surely the information is data protected.

There are a shocking number of women who don't really approve of sex so this isn't the venue to express concern about the ramifications.

Would you elaborate on this please? Genuinely interested

Buy/download an erotic book??

Adult DD absolutely loves erotic fiction. She listens to audiobooks on the train whilst on her way home from work.

There's no such thing as 100% secure data

It will be leaked or hacked

It won’t work and I very much doubt it’ll stop sex trafficking.

Time to invest in vpn companies

opera browser and activate vpn and result. and its a free browser and vpn option (not that i advocate porn as i prefer literotica stories)
