The UK is launching ‘porn age checks’. This is what will happen

The UK is about to launch some of the strongest checks on pornography in the world.

porn hub just wanted an email address and nothing else to age verify took less than a minute they obviously have a way of knowing how old an email address is

Touchingly naive. You have no idea what they did with that email address. It's entirely possible they didn't check your age at all, just sold it to scammers. Or maybe they used it as intended and then still sold it to scammers.

And that's at the more legit end of the market. The small sites that routinely give their viewers viruses and malware are going to have a field day with bank details and email addresses.

Giving porn sites your personal data is insane, they are not trustworthy.

TenaciousDeeds · 25/07/2025 22:09

Erm. I don’t watch porn - I have no inclination. Who would want to watch poor, desperate, probably drug-addicted strangers’ nether regions being banged out of all proportion.

Absolute yuck (and incredibly sad).

GreenIsMyFavoriteColour · 25/07/2025 21:39

It's not fraud or theft.

My point is Pornsites do not have our best interests at heart.

Most women will use a VPN. Some will hand over personal details. And that is going to impact very badly on many of them.

You wrote:
and if they use their GFs bank details or e-mail? Or their mum's?

If they did that they would be guilty of identity fraud because they used another person's bank and personal details without their consent and with the intent to provide false information.

Yeah but it’s an email address I use for spam / junk sign up stuff and not in my real name so they can do what they want with it
it’s not linked to my credit card / bank account I’ve never used it for anything like that

I wouldn’t give them my real email address with my real personal details on it

So dont do it.🤷‍♀️

Until one day you forget and use it for something that can be related back to you.

And even if you don't, some woman somewhere will. There is no safe way to give personal data to a pornsite.

That was self evident to all of us a week ago. Now all of a sudden half the country have decided some Nigerian bloke with a web site is as Trustworthy as their building society!

I think I’m perfectly capable of not using this email address for anything else than spam / verification stuff

but thanks for your concern 😂

Literotica audio section! Just as good if not better imo as you can use your imagination a bit more.

No one is forcing them to hand over their details. No one is forcing them to watch porn. It's a choice they make.

Same as men who want to access Internet porn.🤷‍♀️

RainSoakedNights · 25/07/2025 23:01

UK government: please upload your credit card details and ID to watch porn. We promise it’s totally secure

Also the UK government: oops, we’ve accidentally given a list of 20,000 taliban enemies’ names to the taliban

(tongue in cheek, of course, but still)

LuckyManifestations · 25/07/2025 23:21

I noticed this new rule while scrolling through some sites last night.
I found though that it wasn't all sites that make you do it.

Maybe Google your preferred type and find the ones that aren't complying.

Namechangeragin · 25/07/2025 23:40

It won’t stop kids accessing inappropriate material. Just like they access vapes, films and drugs. Teenagers will find a way.

An older sibling will grant access. Or a parent won’t care and will allow access. Or they will get their tech savvy friend to get round it. Or use a stolen credit card. Or their parents ancient email address (which is linked to their parents finances). Or the dark web. Or 18 year old brother accesses porn, 14 year old records using his phone. It’s not hard.

Or the techie kids will help their peers. The top three or four kids in year 7 IT are very competent, never mind year 10.

Wait until drunk naive 18 year olds upload their passport and end up being blackmailed. Has that been risk assessed?

Or 13 year old goes into the dark web and accesses more than porn?

Or parents bank is accessed due to a child using the parents ancient email address?

This is about controlling what adults can access hidden as a concern for kids. If they were concerned for kids there wouldn’t be a rape gang scandal as authorities would have acted long ago. And rapes wouldn’t be rocketing in number.

My advice in all Internet matters is:

Do your research.
If you dont trust a site, move on. Don't look back.
Understand that there is always a risk. Nothing in life is risk free.
Mitigate your risk by using a credit card, have insurance etc.

It applies as much to accessing alcohol, potato peelers etc. on the net as it does to accessing porn on the net.

Plasticwaste · 26/07/2025 04:06

youreactinglikeafunmum · 25/07/2025 20:25

What about the women who make a career out of this? They aren't all being trafficked

I dont think that this will do anything really, its just another way for our data to be harvested (like it is already)

A real attempt to protect female porn stars would be a union or body regulating filming sites and a ban on 'home made' porn being distributed or hosted by porn hub 🤷‍♀️

Or we could just ban Pornhub 🤷‍♀️

If you want to give your details away because you're so desperate to watch filmed abuse, crack on.

GreenIsMyFavoriteColour · 26/07/2025 06:30

Yes. The law is forcing desperate people to give their personal details to scammers.

If those desperate people are under age they will be using their mum's.

Luckily most people will simply use a VPN, but some won't and the people who profit will be the nasty bastards who run porn sites.

As you hint, it's literally a law that harms desperate people and helps the porn industry.

GreenIsMyFavoriteColour · 26/07/2025 06:33

Again, touchingly naive. The online porn industry is not as safe and reliable as Amazon or Ebay or Marks and Spencers online.

LlynTegid · 26/07/2025 06:37

I am in favour of this. I know it won't stop all porn being viewed in the UK, but a reduction is a good thing in my view. Exploitation of women is the main reason why I want less or no porn, also that it normalises certain sexual acts and the non-use of condoms.

YellowSubmarine994 · 26/07/2025 06:48

The thing that's bothering me most is it's not just porn. Today I tried to open a post on Reddit, and because the person writing was trans it flagged it up as inappropriate content and asked me to submit a selfie or driving licence

daisychain01 · 26/07/2025 06:50

Haggisfish3 · 24/07/2025 23:53

You don’t. There are several ways of identifying you’re over 18, including what your email address is linked to. So any half witted teen will simply use their parents email address, although you hope an email will be sent to the email address.

There are many parent who either don't have the time or be bothered to check their email and wouldn't care if they did find their kid using their email. They'd probably let them use their credit card as well.

as for online id using AI, the underaged kid would just get their older brother to put their face in front of a camera. The genie is out of the bottle on this one. God alone knows why kids under 18 don't get issued a dumb phone for making contact parents or guardian, they do not need unsupervised access to the internet on a smart phone when they are still minors. It might make them lift their head up from their screen annd see the world around them. Unfashionable view but there you go.

GreenIsMyFavoriteColour · 26/07/2025 06:56

Mum's Phone and credit card will likely be lying around the house.

Obviously a vpn is far easier and far safer but there will be some kid who don't know that. Which is why I think this will impact girls more than boys. The lads will be openly sharing information on how to safely access porn. A curious girl is far less likely to be hearing how to safely access this stuff and a one off search out of curiosity could have a big impact on her life.

RafaistheKingofClay · 26/07/2025 07:00

Velmy · 25/07/2025 08:34

How will they have access to "worse stuff"?

Kids after a quick hand shandy aren't using the dark web 😅

It's intended to put a complicated and annoying barrier in place to stop the majority of underage people casually accessing content.

Obviously anyone determined to see boobs will find a way to see boobs, as they have since the dawn of time.

But it isn’t a complicated and annoying barrier. It’s barely a barrier at all. So kids still have all the access to exactly the same porn they had before the legislation came in.

Honestly, we need to be less worried about the attitude of the OP and more worried about the children of parents who think their children have been made safer by this legislation. Because that is the attitude that is going to be putting children at risk.

mamagogo1 · 25/07/2025 11:59

Fine by me. If you aren’t embarrassed using it, just use your id

Better to use someone else’s ID I’d have thought.
