This. Overnight they've normalised giving details to dodgy people. I really can't see how the dodgy people don't benefit from it.

And it's a terrific way to blackmail women into the porn industry. Naive girl types in her details or uses a photo to prove her age... Then they get back to her with "Provide us with content or we tell all your peers."

So, if I want to seek support online for a sex related topic, I’ll have to upload ID without being able to have any faith in the security of the image (if banks and government departments can be hacked, anything can), or use a vpn?

So does that mean using things like DuckDuckGo? Is that why I’ve seen so many ads for them recently?

Separately to that, does the clumsy approach to this mean my kids could still use that same DuckDuckGo to access porn?

This seems a little badly planned.

Google is terrible for privacy so I would recommend people make the switch to duckduckgo for searches regardless.

A user earlier mentioned some porn sites permit downloads and some don't. Whether a porn site specifically offers a download directly is irrelevant since you can easily use a browser extension or 3rd party software to download any video you want from any site.

My point is Pornsites do not have our best interests at heart.

Most women will use a VPN. Some will hand over personal details. And that is going to impact very badly on many of them.

You have to verify and alot of the verification is done by shady 3rd parties with limited info about how they store

I think reddits is American and fall under their patriot act where American companies legally have to give up user data to the American government if asked

I'm not overly comfortable with having my data stored by dodgy companies, overseas companies etc

they offered facial scan and ID & banking and text verification as well so very helpful of them 😂

reddit offered various ways but a face scan was easy to do and took less than a minute but they also offered email address banking & iD verification

so again dead easy to use and no trace
and you can use a texting app or hush to get a fake number if your phone isn’t a contract and therefore already age verified

porn is a multi billion dollar business they aren’t going to let a stupid law stop them from making money
