Very many chn won’t and that’s the point. If it’s harder they will be deterred.

They won't be deterred. Given that 40 years ago kids were cycling 10 miles in the vain hope of finding discarded porn in a hedge switching browser to Opera will not put anyone off.

What this will do is normalise giving personal details to some very iffy people.

I disgagree .It won’t deter all but it will stop the majority.

Yeah I do think anyone who is extremely anti porn with no nuance has a messed up attitude to sex and an unsatisfying sex life. I feel bad for your partners if you have them and I feel bad for you that you won't ever know this aspect of the human experience in all its giddy, delicious glory.

I don't personally find porn that sexually satisfying but I know plenty of people do and I am pleased for them. "Use your imagination", "read some EROTIC POEMS", "gaze at the majesty of your own unwaxed yoni!". Whatever you do you some people like porn.

And.... Oh I can't be arsed. You're not very bright and there's no point.

It wont stop a majority at all, that is a ridiculous thing to say. ~Kids will and are already sharing links to free VPN programs.

Even kids and children who never used VPNs will be looking them up and learning about them to keep in with the crowd and their mates. Now many more than before will have access to content they previously did not think about through the use of VPN software.

Well done you have pushed them to search for new ways to circumvent protections and tracking of users, if that was your aim.

Brilliant!
The internet is broken in my opinion.

It burst on the scene with no understanding or regulation, the money men and fraudsters were making money and breaking laws before the government stopped calling it the information superhighway! Over half of what you see and read is unverified, reports that all link those unverified sources, deliberately falsely created content, AI and bots.

Ive held the view for a few years that the only fix is to build a new one. A secure internet where you have to id&v to even access, where all the proper retailers and banks operate and where the social media is covered by defamation and libel laws and is properly enforced as built correctly and we know who everyone is.

Dont give me the free speech public square waffle, if you go spouting whatever in the public square people can see you and identify you! Private sites would still be private, as would anonymous support groups etc It’s one of the subjects china is absolutely correct on.

Im sure many will disagree but the internet today is downright dangerous for a lot of people, Porn being the tip of a giant iceberg.

If you think you can build a new one then you have a fundamental misunderstanding of how the internet works unfortunately.

What your are actual asking for a single platform that everyone has to login via, well welcome to a life under a dictatorship.

Snorlaxo · 25/07/2025 10:25

Kids will just use a VPN so there will be little difference imo- I’m sure that there will be free ones out there. Plus I bet they will use family devices where the parents have left VPNs on them- I’ve read plenty of stories on here where the dad has left porn on family tablets.

cwmflahwbml · 25/07/2025 10:26

Upload your ID or stop watching.

Or use a VPN like everyone else will because it's a massive loophole.

Morgenrot25 · 25/07/2025 10:27

I am happy to see this, if it stops even some children being able to access it.
I'd also prefer to see a charge, quite a steep one. Lots of folk underestimate the damage that the porn industry inflicts.

Protecting young people’s minds.

Protecting their minds perhaps, but forcing them to hand their personal data to some pretty nasty people.

Nobody is forced to hand over data because nobody is forced to watch online porn.

Morgenrot25 · 25/07/2025 10:39

Nobody is forced to hand over data because nobody is forced to watch online porn.

Apart from now asking young inquisitive minds to hand over data to who knows who, when they are exploring the web, nice consequences.

Don't say this won't happen because it will.

BeardofHagrid · 25/07/2025 10:58

This has got Kier Stalin/Bum-harmer written all over it.

ElonGates666 · 25/07/2025 10:58

I have just listened to a radio presenter who said he looked to see if there is age verification on certain sites. I think he said they were BDSM sites, and there was no age verification on any of them.

I have just looked at 2 porn video sites. There is no age verification on either. One of them allows downloading of videos. Pornhub used to allow downloading but they were stopped a while ago. It seems that Pornhub and some others will comply with the law but others will not.

It could be that it will take time for it to start to work, but that hasn't happened with banning downloads. No one needs VPN to see these sites.

I admit I haven't seen much porn, but the little I have seen seemed to be women with fake breasts faking orgasms and having impersonal sex with unappealing men in dingy flats. Not sexy at all. Nothing compared to the power of imagination and genuine sexual attraction.

Who is being forced to hand over anything?

the way you talk as if the actual people who want to watch pint are the victims in this scenario is beyond comprehension

Totally fair point, im in no way suggesting a new framework is simple or easy. More that in its current format it’s become an extreme force for bad and will likely get worse, the idea of doing nothing at all is scarier to me than spending billions to protect us all from it.

But I think you’re likely right, genies and bottles.

DaisyChain505 · 25/07/2025 11:27

This is long overdue.

Theres no excuses to be blind to the awful things that go on in the porn industry and if something like this makes people think twice about accessing these types of sites I’m all for it.

ElonGates666 · 25/07/2025 11:54

The porn industry was moribund because sites like Pornhub let people see it for free. Those who actually make pornography found it difficult to make a profit. Pornhub and the others like it don't make porn films.

Now that people think they need to set up accounts to see porn, they might as well set up an account with one of the companies that makes pornographic videos. They will have to pay, but that's a short step from having to identify yourself. Their business will pick up. It could save the porn industry.

It's called unintended consequences. The other thing they will do is move onto one of the large number of other sites that offer the same as Pornhub. Some of them offer downloading too. So people will either start paying for their porn which means more porn made, or they will move onto worse sites.

mamagogo1 · 25/07/2025 11:59

Fine by me. If you aren’t embarrassed using it, just use your id

Christinapple · 25/07/2025 13:54

greengreyblue · 25/07/2025 10:05

I disgagree .It won’t deter all but it will stop the majority.

It will only stop a small number of elderly people who have a limited social circle and are out of the loop and don't know about VPNs and think Pornhub is the only porn site on the internet and don't realise they can just search for another.

It is not going to stop anyone underage from accessing porn if they are curious/want to.

As with everything, it’s going to take time to enforce. Of course there will be chancers, they don’t negate the fact that this is a step in the right direction. There are plenty who now have this set up.

Or someone else's ID. Or a fake one, or bypass it altogether? Plenty of options to avoid the block
