😡🙈😡

The UK is launching ‘porn age checks’. This is what will happen

The UK is about to launch some of the strongest checks on pornography in the world.

Buy/download an erotic book??

Dontthink · 24/07/2025 23:43

Maybe don’t watch porn. If you want to open your eyes to the bullshit if it watch the Louis Theroux documentaries about it and it will put you off

randomchap · 24/07/2025 23:45

Time to invest in vpn companies

Eastendboysandwestendgirls · 24/07/2025 23:48

What classes as porn though? Surely half the internet is tits and ass nowadays, they can't restrict the whole lot. I'm not about to spend the next week testing the theory, but as a teacher who spends bloody ages sifting through shit on primary children's phones, I feel overinvested.

mumandmumber · 24/07/2025 23:49

Is this not a good thing? I know they’ll probably find their way around it.. but I like the idea of porn being less accessible to under 18’s..

Screamingabdabz · 24/07/2025 23:49

I think it’s a good thing. Misogny and unrealistic ideas about relationships are very evident in secondary school classrooms. This is due to unfettered porn use.

Theunamedcat · 24/07/2025 23:50

I dont see the issue adults have ID use it

youreactinglikeafunmum · 24/07/2025 23:51

I dont want to have to use my passport to watch Owen Gray 😭

A fair amount of Reddit has gone too.

I was wondering earlier if this will have an effect on the people who advertise their OF there, the engagement must now plummet? Or maybe people will feel safe to upload photos and documents? I definitely wouldn’t feel safe doing that.

Completely agree

This is a fair point, I understand why you'd be invested

Maybe if porn were tied to your phone contract?

T mobile used to make you provide id to access any websites, even YouTube - thats not a bad idea

You don’t. There are several ways of identifying you’re over 18, including what your email address is linked to. So any half witted teen will simply use their parents email address, although you hope an email will be sent to the email address.

SprayWhiteDung · 24/07/2025 23:53

Not interested in porn at all, so this sounds like a very good thing.

I can just see it before long creeping into other areas of 'grown-up' and potentially controversial subject matter and stick another knife into personal privacy and freedoms in a social credit-style system.

nocoolnamesleft · 24/07/2025 23:54

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Ddakji · 24/07/2025 23:54

Good.

Not sure why anyone wants to whack off to a trafficked abused woman.

randomchap · 24/07/2025 23:56

RCJJ · 24/07/2025 23:52

Completely agree

The problem is, it won't work. Setting up a vpn takes a couple of minutes and bypasses the block.

The harm that porn causes teenagers can only be mitigated through education and parenting. Having those difficult conversations about the dangers.

Having this block in might lead parents to think that porn is inaccessible online, and give them a false sense of security

zaazaazoom · 24/07/2025 23:58

Use your minds eye. It's far more fun as you can pick and choose what you see. Alternatively a good erotic novel is fun. If it stops one child or one woman being raped, trafficked or abused then it's been worth it.
If it reduces the profit that the cunts who run these sites make by £10 it's worth it.

cariadlet · 25/07/2025 00:05

I know that there are ways around it but I think the principle of age verification is a good one. I don't think adults should be getting their kicks from watching abused women; it should definitely be inaccessible to under 18s.

I used to think porn was ok if it was consensual. But that's before I had heard women who had escaped from the industry talk about the reality of it.

That's apart from the fact that porn has changed over recent years, with the normalisation of degrading acts. Too many girls now think that strangulation and anal sex are the norm leading to catastrophic health outcomes.

22O725 · 25/07/2025 00:09

If you used your imagination you would not Support the porn industry.

GrandTheftWalrus · 25/07/2025 00:12

There are many ways to verify. My email address is 22 years old so its older than most.

becausewecancan · 25/07/2025 00:16

Considering that easy, instant access to porn is one of the worst things to come of the Internet Age, I can't say that I mind it being even slightly more restricted. I do wonder if it will creep into other non-pornographic areas of the internet, though.

whynotwhatknot · 25/07/2025 00:18

use a vpn? or just put in your id

WhySoManySocks · 25/07/2025 00:19

FINE WITH ME

NellitheNelephant · 25/07/2025 00:22

I think it's fantastic. Well done, Uk.

SeriousFaffing · 25/07/2025 00:26

Good.

Those in the industry have campaigned hard for this, well done to them. Porn should not be a free for all, particularly for young people and children with developing brains and unhindered access to the internet.
