When I was 16/17 I caught my younger cousin and his bratty friend with hedge porn. I made them do all the housework and pay me £20 to buy my silence.

PMSL, I didn't know there was a word/term for it. Saw plenty growing up in the 70/80s. Some kid found their Dad/Brother/Uncles stash, nicked it, looked at it and then stuffed/hid it in a field/hedge. Brilliant.

Having to use my imagination, upload ID or actually find my husband attractive, or alternatively accepting that my 5yo daughter is likely to be exposed to hard core pornography within the next 5 years. What a conundrum.

Accessing through a phone that is "adult unlocked" is enough for some.

This is something people who pass old phones onto their kids should be aware of for future issues if you access any sites you wouldn't want them to (even some of the reddits I wouldn't want my kids accessing tbh)

They won't really have to do anything really - the sites that don't have age verification will rise in the search rankings becoming easier to find. There are a multitude of web browsers/add on apps that circumvent the age checks too - these will just rise in the ranks/become the normal tools that will be advertised to people who are searching for porn.

For most it just means that they either the underage/privacy minded porn hunter will use a VPN/free browser to circumvent, or they'll avoid the 'mainstream' websites. The mainstream websites which will be the only ones that sign up to age/id checks are the ones that generally have some kind of standard that makes sure those features are not underage and are consenting.

This means that the kids actively looking for porn will be more like to access the worst sites plenty out their advertising ex-girlfriend vids, underage vids, drunk girl vids - they're not going to be asking for age verification are they.

It's all horrific. But this change will either be meaningless at best, most likely harmful. It's a massive boon for the worst of the porn sites because they're the ones going to be getting the extra traffic, extra money for them.

Porn mags like Mayfair and Razzle that were hidden in hedges and other hidey holes, and found by teenage boys.

This was back in the day when you had to actually buy a porn mag, usually from a News Stand. None of the newsagents round our way stocked them.

I already had to do it to use Reddit. Even though I don't use the 18+ subreddits.

The fact that you and possibly others think porn and sex are synonymous shows just how damaging porn is.
Sex will carry on just fine without unfettered access to porn to children. And everyone else, for that matter.

Tell me @Fragmentedbrain where have you come across this shocking number of women who disapprove of sex? It’s certainly not on here, and I personally have never met a single woman in real life who does.
