So all of my family are going to Oasis for my mums but I couldn’t go due to childcare, I would feel so bad as a parent leaving one of my children out and would probably not go myself. Maybe I am just being selfish and bitter because I am jealous.

The problem here is not that you can’t go due to a lack of childcare but that your own family just booked a family effect without even asking you or giving you the opportunity to find childcare, AND included your ex (who could have had the children) ahead of you?!? Fuck me. I’d be really pissed off; you are completely justified in being hurt and upset. That’s really shit of your own family.

They didn't include the ex. It's a concert, the ex is one of the presumably thousands of other people who are attending unrelated to the OP's mother's birthday. B

People are either lazy to read or as dim as a Toc H lamp.

They’re not mutually exclusive, sadly!

I think it is incredibly rude they arranged something and didn’t even consider asking you before they booked the tickets. You would have had ages to work out childcare with friends or even paternal grandparents if they are around.
who booked the tickets? If it was your brother then I would be petty and book something for your mum at a different time that’s just the two of you and not invite him.

There was a maximum of four tickets per booking - assuming her brother did the booking, he couldn't have booked five, even if he'd have wanted to. It simply wasn't possible.

Noone stopped OP booking a ticket for herself.

stayathomer · 20/07/2025 11:06

Unreasonable but reasonable too op! Hate concerts nowadays for price and also for actually being able to get tickets. It all sucks!!!

But she said they didn’t even ask her so she couldn’t even try to book and wouldn’t have been sat with them.

Jealousy is the ugly emotion.

Boomer55 · 21/07/2025 16:46

You need to grow up and accept that kids bring limitations. 🤷‍♀️

She doesn’t even particularly like oasis! So why would they ask her to fork out money and arrange childcare to attend an event she’d have no interest in attending?

One of my sisters shares my taste in music, the other one has very different tastes. I wouldn’t dream of asking the latter one to join us at a concert, nor would she ask me to join her at one of her chosen ones.

x2boys · 22/07/2025 10:42

You could have just gone anyway with the kids and watched from Gallagher Hill?

Happypositivemum · 23/07/2025 18:00

My head is in my hands. 13 years of missing out on bands/nights out/nights in/holidays etc etc because im a mum and an adult and this is what being a parent is about. For the love of all that is common sense and head shaking. Suck it up woman.
