Trans hate (I don't) and the same old, same old

1000 replies

RetiringRita · 14/07/2025 13:47

Well I've been on a few threads this weekend and the one that's been hijacked yet again was the question of trans hate on mumsnet.
The OP asked for opinions on whether that was a fair statement yet within minutes the question was ignored and the same FWR posters were out in force. They didn't want to answer the question so targeted their posts to state their agenda.

Sex as defined by The Surpreme Court ruling
TW perverts in women's prisons
TW perverts in female loos
Men in dresses
FTM having ASD or mental illness.

It appears those of us who sit on the fence are not entitled to be there. Those who cannot be bullied get shouted down.

I have been called the following :

Hand Maiden
Trans Ally
Not part of the sisterhood
Delusional
Captured
Shameful
Mentally ill
A liar (frequently)
A man

None apply to me.

Am I being unreasonable to ask for some understanding and compassion for trans people who don't fit the stereotypes listed?

The fact of the matter is that only men can be trans women and only women can be trans men.

NImumconfused · 14/07/2025 15:02

Tandora · 14/07/2025 14:55

She listed the names she was called in the OP? I wasn’t on the thread, but are you denying all these are the case? I’ve been repeatedly called most of these and worse so I doubt it.

Yes I am, I don't recall seeing that at all.

murasaki · 14/07/2025 15:02

The 'i have a family member' card is just 'not my Nigel' in different clothes.

thebear1 · 14/07/2025 14:54

You are not unreasonable but you will be shouted down. The boards and posters make some valid points, but that doesn't mean that there is still not vitriol against trans people. Someone will no doubt quote me and ask me to show examples. I'm not going to, people can make up their own minds on what they read.

Ah, another poster who alleges that there is vitriol against trans people but can't or won't provide any evidence. Hmm

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/07/2025 14:59

Yep. OP was the rude one. This is a TAAT.

Oh, that was this OP with those mince insults? Ok then, seems like this one was started as a weird joke. I'm out.

I need to stop taking people at face value all the time - it's something I struggle with.

LakieLady · 14/07/2025 15:00

I'm not at all bothered by a man in a dress using the women's toilets. Whenever I've encountered a transwoman in the bogs, which is not at all uncommon in the Brighton area, they've been perfectly pleasant.

I am bothered, and like most women don’t want to encounter men in women’s loos and changing rooms, however “lovely” you personally think they are.

No one woman has the right to give away the rights of all other women. There are plenty of women who wouldn't be comfortable sharing a single-sex space or service with a male person, for valid reasons which the Equality Act was designed to respect.

Tandora · 14/07/2025 15:05

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/07/2025 14:59

Please explain how the word 'hate' applies to factual statements with evidence provided or available if requested to back them up. Points 1, 2 and 4 you list are true. People make these points because they are concerning. Describing transwomen as men in dresses is a shorthand way to make it clear that transwomen are trans-identified males. Polling evidence repeatedly shows that many people are confused about the meaning of the recently coined words 'transwoman' and 'transman' and have them the wrong way round. There can't be a sensible discussion if key terms aren't defined.

They are not facts. They are prejudiced , harmful generalisations, designed to spread fear , misunderstanding and hate.

It would be like saying:

*[insert ethnic minority] child grooming gangs
insert ethnic minority terrorists
Green people in green traditional garb
Green people having co-occurring stigmatised neurodevelopment differences and mental health disorders

you wouldn’t accept this as legitimate for any other group.

vivainsomnia · 14/07/2025 15:05

OP, I xouldnt care less sharing a changing room with a trans person. All my female friends feel the same. It's just a no event to us. I'm the only one on MN 😁

OvaHere · 14/07/2025 15:06

Understanding and compassion when used as an argument always equates to a) giving men what they want at the expense of women and b) accepting things as true which blatantly aren't.

If there's a path forward that doesn't lead to A or B then please outline it.

MaggieBsBoat · 14/07/2025 15:06

I’m as terfy as they come but I’m not going to start insulting other women @RetiringRita and I had noticed that myself with the thread you are talking about, which just proves the point being made. It’s silly, divisive and lacking in critical thinking which is what we are accusing the other side of.

Nuance in all things is good. Men can’t be women in my view. I’m not going to fall out with women about a bunch of men.

JaneEyre40 · 14/07/2025 15:07

Why is there so much air time given to .0005 (or whatever) percent of the population when there are critical issues happening across our country that need far more of the spotlight on them?

The likelyhood that man will claim to be trans to get into a women's bathroom to assault a female has got to be the most stupid, overused argument I have ever heard!

Tandora · 14/07/2025 15:07

NImumconfused · 14/07/2025 15:02

Well that would be extraordinary for a mumsnet thread on trans issues!

Who has said men will pretend to be trans to attack women in bathrooms?! More hyperbole.

Edited to add - using this argument that no one who wants single sex spaces to remain as such has ever used, to allow men into women’s spaces has got to be the most stupid reason ever, even for TRA’s.

Valeriekat · 14/07/2025 15:08

RetiringRita · 14/07/2025 14:24

Agree with you entirely.
No men in women's sport (and I say that as a former England record holder).
No sharing of female spaces.
Two sexes only. That's my cards on the table.

I also agree this is a male movement. If you talk to ftm their friendship group will be mainly males.
My issue is the venom and stereotypes.
I grew up with old school transsexuals. I think you'll find this violence against women is not in their name.

And yet they say nothing against it.

Errr people say this all the time. It’s a favourite argument!

Could you please give us some details as to exactly what you mean by 'understanding and compassion for trans people'?

"I think you'll find this violence against women is not in their name."

Could you also please point out the campaign started by the people who you seem supportive of where they are saying publicly "this violence against women is not in their name."?

And are all those people you are supporting respecting all female single sex spaces and not expecting any person to treat them as female people, even through language please?

Have you not read the hundreds of articles where this is claimed to be not only a possibility but a certainty! Ridiculous.

Youdontseehow · 14/07/2025 15:11

HansHolbein · 14/07/2025 13:57

I don’t care about the noise around it all, men shouldn’t be in the women’s loos. I don’t want to understand nor do I have compassion that men want to use the women’s loos. The end.

Basically this.
