Trans hate (I don't) and the same old, same old

1000 replies

RetiringRita · 14/07/2025 13:47

Well I've been on a few threads this weekend and the one that's been hijacked yet again was the question of trans hate on mumsnet.
The OP asked for opinions on whether that was a fair statement yet within minutes the question was ignored and the same FWR posters were out in force. They didn't want to answer the question so targeted their posts to state their agenda.

Sex as defined by The Surpreme Court ruling
TW perverts in women's prisons
TW perverts in female loos
Men in dresses
FTM having ASD or mental illness.

It appears those of us who sit on the fence are not entitled to be there. Those who cannot be bullied get shouted down.

I have been called the following :

Hand Maiden
Trans Ally
Not part of the sisterhood
Delusional
Captured
Shameful
Mentally ill
A liar (frequently)
A man

None apply to me.

Am I being unreasonable to ask for some understanding and compassion for trans people who don't fit the stereotypes listed?

I don't really follow, OP.

Do you think we should be able to legally distinguish male humans from female humans?

She asked for some compassion for trans people who don’t fit the following stereotypes;

TW perverts in women's prisons
TW perverts in female loos
Men in dresses
FTM having ASD or mental illness.

HTH.

Waitwhat23 · 14/07/2025 14:45

Oh dear OP, you made yourself look quite silly on that thread. Have you started this thread because you you didn't get the final shot on the last?

Here's the thread the OP is referring to -

You are definitely not being unreasonable - but must be aware you have started another AIBU which will be full of hatred for trans people.

Not this again. Where's the hate? Hate used to be a very strong word reserved for violent, aggressive behaviour. Now it seems to apply to straightforward disagreement.

There you go OP- the shaming for having a different opinion has started here too. You “looked quite silly” you know. “Oh dear”.

Quite. Not agreeing with something isn't "hate".

That's the thread.

lol . If only that were true. certainly not the case on FWR or any trans or adjacent thread on mumsnet!

(and of course if that were true Trump would be the president and people wouldn’t be predicting reform as our next gov! Etc )

It’s like arguing with a flat earther.

It’s like the literal violence of not using someone’s preferred pronouns I imagine. All so dramatic and exciting!

Agree with you entirely.
No men in women's sport (and I say that as a former England record holder).
No sharing of female spaces.
Two sexes only. That's my cards on the table.

I also agree this is a male movement. If you talk to ftm their friendship group will be mainly males.
My issue is the venom and stereotypes.
I grew up with old school transsexuals. I think you'll find this violence against women is not in their name.

You confusing me.

You posted this above.

Then this

Actually I'm am thinking of funding a legal challenge.
I am a long time feminist who brought a landmark case for maternity rights.
It cost me a miscarriage and a great deal of heartache. It took my career twenty years to recover. My barrister told me I am often quoted.
I actually listen to both sides of the argument as was my training. But I have a trans family member and they are not any of the things that get levelled at them.

So what ruling are you considering funding a legal challenge to???

You appear to be supporting opposite POV??

I would love to hear more about this one day.

I am also curious about your family member and how you know their view of their gender (if they have one) is based in something tangible and not stereotypes, but I also suspect that is too "none of my business/ too complex / I'm wrong for bringing them into it"

I read all that thread and there was no bullying, unless you define bullying as "disagreeing with me". Other people expressing their opinions is not shouting you down - it's a talk board, everyone can say what they think.

There were only two posts which were inappropriate and they were deleted. You were the one calling other posters thick as mince.

Wow. Just wow.

thebear1 · 14/07/2025 14:54

You are not unreasonable but you will be shouted down. The boards and posters make some valid points, but that doesn't mean that there is still not vitriol against trans people. Someone will no doubt quote me and ask me to show examples. I'm not going to, people can make up their own minds on what they read.

Helleofabore · 14/07/2025 14:54

She listed the names she was called in the OP? I wasn’t on the thread, but are you denying all these are the case? I’ve been repeatedly called most of these and worse so I doubt it.

Yep. OP was the rude one. This is a TAAT.

Please explain how the word 'hate' applies to factual statements with evidence provided or available if requested to back them up. Points 1, 2 and 4 you list are true. People make these points because they are concerning. Describing transwomen as men in dresses is a shorthand way to make it clear that transwomen are trans-identified males. Polling evidence repeatedly shows that many people are confused about the meaning of the recently coined words 'transwoman' and 'transman' and have them the wrong way round. There can't be a sensible discussion if key terms aren't defined.

Cattery · 14/07/2025 14:17

A man in a dress should use the men’s toilets. You can report me now

I'm not at all bothered by a man in a dress using the women's toilets. Whenever I've encountered a transwoman in the bogs, which is not at all uncommon in the Brighton area, they've been perfectly pleasant.

TheyreStillGoingWithThemPlumsKerr · 14/07/2025 15:01

Is anyone on MN being unreasonable to ask biological men for some understanding and compassion regarding children’s and women’s rights and safeguarding?
