Hate my new tattoo

What I asked for. What I got. It’s on the inside of my wrist. I went to my usual place and had it done by the owner - the guy who did my previous delicate and artistic tats has left 🙁
I hate it, it’s so clumsy and even the shape is wrong.
AIBU to dislike it so much? What would you do?

I thought everyone from that era was dead tbh.

Did he do it free hand? Usually a tattoo artist will put a template on to show you where they're putting it, what or will look like and the position - didn't you tell him then that you didn't like it?

OP the tattoos you like, dont look anything like the tattoo you want.

Cover ups/changes to existing tattoos are a whole different skill set again.

Im not sure the artist you like will do what you want.

Very upsetting I know when it’s permanent, but you can get it fixed.
I think the general consensus is it’s not great.
It looks like you’ve been branded right now but wait and see how it looks once healed.
Complain, but do not use that guy again. You should always book the most suitable artist who you have seen is fully capable and confident with the type of design or technique you are looking for. Research well and travel if you have to - it will be worth it. The right person will give you creative ideas on how you can add to this or correct it to some degree. There are some very clever cover-ups out there but this may not end up being quite the delicate tattoo you wanted - although hopefully it will become one you didn’t know you wanted but love !

Im not sure that the artist you like is necessarily the right person to do it though so do lots of research before you rush in.

Careful you dont get talked into something huge though (unless that's what you want). I only have one tattoo so am hardly an expert but a lot of cover ups Ive seen. Seem unnecessarily big.

Im getting a bee!
Ive posted before (possibly under a different username) that I was going to get flowers but Im also getting him to do a bee. This is his work so I (hopefully!) Know what I'm getting.
(Yes, I know it might blur, its posdibly too small, the risk of yellow etc)

It’s not a fly @DogsandFlowers, it’s a wasp. (although wasps aren’t blue of course.) I thought initially of a bee but then decided on a wasp, because I think they’re amazing creatures and misunderstood.

Have you looked at what other artists might be able to do a good ammonite for you?

What about May's flower moon? The moon you got could be the base. It could peek through the flowers

That’s a lovely idea @outerspacepotato. The flowers could hide some of the rubbish bits and the blue will fade a bit and look more ethereal. I’m sort of getting used to it but def won’t leave as is. Seems less angry today!

Can you not find where your original tattooist has gone? My son has had the same one for over 10 years, they have moved a few times in that period but you won’t go to anyone else for exactly the reason you’ve experienced.

Tattooists are like hairdressers once you find a good one you tend to stick with them and move around with them if you can.

Are you looking at the one the OP actually has, the blue one, or the pink one she wanted? That’s the one that looks like a burn!

The blue one. The first one (pink) to me looks less like an injury as it has more subtle detail...

ETA: I suppose what I have in mind is something along the lines of cattle branding!

Just popped back on to say the ammonite idea is a cracker, as it something with flowers as mentioned above. Good luck with it op, and do come back and show us the result (and ignore the twats people who have been rude on here).
