Hate my new tattoo

What I asked for. What I got. It’s on the inside of my wrist. I went to my usual place and had it done by the owner - the guy who did my previous delicate and artistic tats has left 🙁
I hate it, it’s so clumsy and even the shape is wrong.
AIBU to dislike it so much? What would you do?

@CuthbertStrange I’ve just seen your reply to @Megifer trying to justify yourself. I have no words for your behaviour and even if there are risks (doubtful) this is NOT the place to post about it.

I think what you’ve chosen is much more detailed than your other tattoos, with the watercolour cloud effect in it. Double check that the old/new person can do this.

Tippexy · 27/06/2025 18:11

Are you sure your previous guy has the skillset to take on what is a very delicate and complex watercolour design?

columnatedruinsdomino · 27/06/2025 18:11

He hasn't done enough. The ends aren't rounded enough and the body isn't full enough. I think it could be ok🤞

OutbackQueen · 27/06/2025 18:11

@kurotora I’m very grateful for your professional opinion. Someone earlier said it looked like a caterpillar so I was thinking maybe it could form part of a centipede (seriously) with fine-line black legs etc. Or a stylised ammonite, even a snake.
I trust the guy I’ll be using because he’s honest and has done stuff for me before.

Tbh op that's why I challenged that poster a bit (although you'd think I really laid into them 🤣) it was a bit of a crap thing to post, particularly as it was obviously based off a sensationalist headline or Insta post without actually reading it to it a bit more.

I've got quite a few tatts, and health anxiety, im not concerned in the slightest about that study. Infact I'm booked in for about 2 months time for my next session 😊

OneFineDay13 · 27/06/2025 18:14

That's terrible. Get a refund and get a cover up or lasered off

OutbackQueen · 27/06/2025 18:14

🥰 to you @Megifer

I don't think your previous tattoos are near the standard of your example crescent moon either. Watercolour is a particular technique, I'd only get it fixed by someone who does that work regularly.

Your previous tattoos are much simpler, so the owner would probably have done a decent job of them.

But he is also at fault for not saying that he couldn't do this style.

Agree with this. My husband is a tattoo artist and very talented in many styles, but I just showed him this and he said he is not confident with watercolour and that he would have recommended another artist in his studio more suited to that particular design if someone had asked him for it. Gently, please do lots of research before doing anything else.

Never understood why people have images permanently inscribed on their body parts. I prefer creative endeavours of a none personalised area. I can understand in a trible context where art evokes messages of the past a mystic cultures and summon up previous gods
animals. Maybe it's lack of these elements in modern society which demands people to seek such things. Apparently you used to be able to puchase what were called " Billy stampers" fun art which were transfer images which washed out after a few days - when the children became bored with it. It shows a generation with too much money and not quite sure what to do with it. The dauber who produces such images under guise of art is laughing all the way to the National gallery, he can also rub them out at for a small fee - fascinating 1

What on earth are you on about? Are you okay? Serious question. Most people appreciate the source but you’re obviously triggered. Not my problem 🤷‍♀️

But the source doesn’t actually say that tattoos are the cause of the increased risk of those health conditions.

Outside9 · 27/06/2025 18:20

As someone who would neve get a tattoo, i don't get why people don't go pay and travel for the best and most reputable tattoo artists.

I mean sure £500 for a small butterfly dies seen like a rip off but it'll be on you forever.

OutbackQueen · 27/06/2025 18:25

@Hadaway for me it’s a form of expression. I got sober at 65 and my first tattoo was a celebration of that. I’m creative in other ways too and I’ve given up worrying about what other people think.

I’m assuming you had a look at what was drawn and then saw it placed on your wrist. Why didn’t you speak up then? Why didn’t you speak up when they finished?

ThisKindAmberLemur · 27/06/2025 18:30

Good lord, there's an abundance of people here who've obviously had their empathy chips removed.

@OP, I like the idea of an ammonite.

Do you talk this kind of shite in public?

proximalhumerous · 27/06/2025 18:38

Bringinguptherear · 27/06/2025 10:28

This is why I would never get a tattoo, the idea of trusting someone to permanently mark my skin brings me out in a cold sweat.

sorry that not helpful!

Afraid it’s not great and not really a crescent moon shape, more of a croissant.

Does croissant not literally mean crescent?

WTF is a "none personalised area"? Do you mean "non-personalised"? Although even if you do I'm still not quite sure what your point is...

Out of interest, how much are you paying per laser session on this size of tattoo, and what area of the UK? Considering laser for myself and despite being a tattooist I have little idea of laser costs.

Taytoface · 27/06/2025 18:51

Ooo. That is not great. Looks like someone put a coffee cup down on you without a coaster.

I think some are confusing what OP had done with what she wanted done!
