Hate my new tattoo

What I asked for. What I got. It’s on the inside of my wrist. I went to my usual place and had it done by the owner - the guy who did my previous delicate and artistic tats has left 🙁
I hate it, it’s so clumsy and even the shape is wrong.
AIBU to dislike it so much? What would you do?

Did you not check the stencil or the placement before he went ahead? 🫣

I’ve had an answer - he understands and will refund.

So he should, it looks like your mates done it - is the guy qualified?

OutbackQueen · 27/06/2025 11:04

No sorry @SeaShellsSanctuary1 I asked for the blue, a different colour to the original.

hideous thing

Nothanks17 · 27/06/2025 11:22

I'm really sorry, but that looks like you have have a laser session on a tattoo, not had a tattoo done. Where are you in the healing process? Did they give you any second skin strips? Would highly recommend ordering and applying them after a shower and gently washing the area to help prevent scarring.

Don't worry, it can be touched up when healed, I would leave it a while.

StripyShirt · 27/06/2025 12:01

I had a similar failure done on a wrist. I had it touched up a bit by the artist, which improved it greatly, but it was still not his best work (he'd previously done some good work for me). It's grown on me over the years 😃

Waterweight · 27/06/2025 13:01

Sorry but the quality looks pretty similar between the old & the new just different designs, id definitely be unhappy about the placement though & want somebody else altogether to fix it (cover it)

FightingFish · 27/06/2025 13:09

Not great but I’ve seen worse. The UK is hot right now but for 9 months of the year it is long sleeve weather so easy to hide.

AmberMae · 27/06/2025 13:22

The one you asked for looks like a bruise/graze.
the one you got isn’t great but looks less like a burn/wound than the first picture.

menopausalfart · 27/06/2025 13:25

Hope you get your refund. I'd use it to get it removed.

Hankunamatata · 27/06/2025 13:30

On plus side I think its definitely can be made into something lovely with extra work

NoelFaraday · 27/06/2025 13:36

It looks like you have been branded with a hot iron, the type they use for cattle.

Purplecatshopaholic · 27/06/2025 14:00

Well at least you are getting a refund op. I’d consider a little laser then a cover up - but go to a really talented artist experienced in that type of artwork, and cover ups. Hopefully it’s fixable with a bit of effort.

Penguin92 · 27/06/2025 14:41

you didn’t agree a design first?

Noshadelamp · 27/06/2025 14:45

The good thing is it looks fixable.
Glad you're getting a refund, he knows he didn't get it right.
You'll find someone else who'll be able to fix it, take your time researching and talking to a short list of artists.

OutbackQueen · 27/06/2025 14:59

Oh yes, agreed the design, he did a stencil and then he f….. it up. I’ve managed to find my old tattooist who used to work there so hopefully he can make something beautiful out of it!

I'd have told you it will not look the same on the body part/area you've chosen... theres SO much more movement there, it needs a very flat smooth area with not much movement (as per the model)...

Still his error in not telling you thats not going to work so well there, and in not doing a great job of it but I think a good cover up/re-work artist will turn it into something good.

Afewtimesagain · 27/06/2025 15:12

I think it's still a nice tattoo but it's definitely not what you asked for. I'd be requesting a refund.

The design you got is nothing like what you wanted - how badly did he mess up the stencil and placement for it to go that wrong?!

That was my first thought, that it's a really awful place for that tattoo (any tattoo really) as it's such a high movement area. I've got a couple of wrist tattoos but they're offset on the advice of my tattooist.

Jeez that’s so frightening! I a.ways thought the stencil made the design pretty foolproof - obviously not!

BrendaTheBlendeer · 27/06/2025 15:21

I don't think your previous tattoos are near the standard of your example crescent moon either. Watercolour is a particular technique, I'd only get it fixed by someone who does that work regularly.

Your previous tattoos are much simpler, so the owner would probably have done a decent job of them.

But he is also at fault for not saying that he couldn't do this style.

Tootrad · 27/06/2025 15:24

Surely you waved it in front of the artist at the end and said

WTAF is this?

It should do, but I think lots of people just say "yeah, it's fine" without actually thinking about what they're doing, lol.

My latest tattoo I asked for her to re-do the stencil three times and move placement twice. She wasn't remotely offended.

MooreMooreMoore · 27/06/2025 15:27

This is why I couldn’t get one, you’re reliant on someone else and if they have an off day you’ve a permanent reminder! I’d be asking him to fund the removal.
