Hate my new tattoo

What I asked for. What I got. It’s on the inside of my wrist. I went to my usual place and had it done by the owner - the guy who did my previous delicate and artistic tats has left 🙁
I hate it, it’s so clumsy and even the shape is wrong.
AIBU to dislike it so much? What would you do?

Ah don't stress too much op. You're getting your money back, just get it covered up, no big deal 😃

It should do, but I think lots of people just say "yeah, it's fine" without actually thinking about what they're doing, lol.

My latest tattoo I asked for her to re-do the stencil three times and move placement twice. She wasn't remotely offended.

So given OP presumably agreed stencil placement, would she be able to request a refund if she wanted to or would the artist refuse since she’d given the green light to it?

OutbackQueen · 27/06/2025 15:32

Indeed @Megifer. I’m actually quite excited about seeing my precious tattooist - he’s a creative genius.

This is why I would never get a tattoo, the idea of trusting someone to permanently mark my skin brings me out in a cold sweat.

sorry that not helpful!

Afraid it’s not great and not really a crescent moon shape, more of a croissant.

My son goes to a very highly skilled tattoo artist with a long wait list. His work is very good, I’m not really a fan of tattoos but even I’m impressed.

When you booked your app, did you request him and then when you turned up…. It was someone else and they had not updated you?

saltinesandcoffeecups · 27/06/2025 15:38

Oof.. I think it’s terrible placement and color. Unfortunately both on you I’m afraid.

The wrist skin was always going to be a bit stretchy so that would explain some of the misshaping. I also think the color was always going to make a big difference in the final product.

That all being said, sorry you’re not happy but glad you got a refund and a plan to fix!

She's already been refunded.

Stencil placement isn't the be all and end all, though, tattoos can still be blown out or done badly, even if the stencil looks perfect.

I'm confused by OP's though, as the original design is a watercolour but what she actually got looks like she's been branded - there's no watercolour in there whatsoever Confused

OutbackQueen · 27/06/2025 15:40

No, I knew he’d left. But the owner’s been at it for 25 years and has done some nice stuff for friends. He must have been having an off morning….

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 27/06/2025 15:40

OP - your "idea" photo is a watercolour moon, but what you have is absolutely nothing like it - did the stencil not show that it wouldn't be a watercolour? And why is the placement so off?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 27/06/2025 15:41

Yeah sorry it’s not right. I would complain too

Is the first picture a real tattoo OP or is it AI? I get worried thinking that some of these tattoos aren’t actually real so can’t be replicated. The artist should have said though if they couldn’t replicate it exactly… it’s not a birthday cake it’s on your skin. Wait and see what it looks like first when it heals up and then reassess. X

How is that helpful? On a post where someone has just got a tattoo.

KaitlynnFairchild · 27/06/2025 15:51

It might look a bit better when it heals, it looks kind of lumpy and scabby at the moment.

Namechangetheyarewatching · 27/06/2025 15:52

The blue/green will be really hard to laser out, it's the worst colour.

Im on laser number 8 for my "bad decision" worm when I was 17, it faded a bit, all the blacks gone, but not great.

I'm sure everything gives you cancer if you look hard enough.

goingtotown · 27/06/2025 15:54

A refund won’t change it, you need compensating to pay for removal or to be redone by a talented tattoo artist.

Scout2016 · 27/06/2025 15:57

I think that can be reworked OP, your artist will have some ideas. I don't think lasering and / or redoing is a good idea on delicate wrist skin.

Interesting. What does the study say re the lifestyles of the participants in the research compared to the non-tattooed participants please? Thanks in advance.

Oh and what was the stark increase?

LoztWorld · 27/06/2025 15:58

Easily reworked into something more like the original vision. But make sure you go to an artist who specialises in the watercolour style.

Don’t just go to the tattooist you already know and like. From the pics you posted his style is nothing like your inspiration pic and i’d be surprised if he could do it.

3KidsPlusDdog · 27/06/2025 15:59

I think your one looks better than what you showed him. The first picture looks like ringworm

NewShoesForSpring · 27/06/2025 16:00

I'm sorry op, that's a terrible tattoo. But I don't like the ones the 'good' tattoo artist did either....

Hope you get it sorted

I very much doubt she'll get the removal paid for. After all, she approved both the design and the stencil.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 27/06/2025 16:08

Yikes.

When it's healed you can get it covered or removed.
