Hate my new tattoo

OutbackQueen · 27/06/2025 10:12

What I asked for. What I got. It’s on the inside of my wrist. I went to my usual place and had it done by the owner - the guy who did my previous delicate and artistic tats has left 🙁
I hate it, it’s so clumsy and even the shape is wrong.
AIBU to dislike it so much? What would you do?

It’s been over 20 years since I got my tattoo, and it’s on my back so I couldn’t examine it in close up, so I may be misremembering, but don’t you need to wait for it to heal to see what it’s going to finally look like? It might not be as bad as you think.

Superhansrantowindsor · 27/06/2025 16:14

I don’t think it’s that different to the picture really.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 27/06/2025 16:14

It looks like you've been branded like a cow on a ranch.

Really? They're a totally different style and design.

WeCouldDoBetter · 27/06/2025 16:18

I know absolutely nothing about tattoos so not exactly sure why I'm commenting?!

I do think it'll calm down though so the colour and cloudy effect may be clearer. The big issue though is the shape, as someone else has pointed out its a C shape and not a crescent...hopefully your original tattooist can alter the shape and buy altering this it'll be better placed.

I do love your other tattoos though and I am not usually a fan.

thinkfast · 27/06/2025 16:18

The one you got looks better then your inspo photo OP, which looks like a bruise.

Charlize43 · 27/06/2025 16:19

Reminds me of a cup ring when a coaster isn't used...

HollyIvie · 27/06/2025 16:20

it isn't a great job however the design/effect looks tricky to be put on skin

Megifer · 27/06/2025 16:22

I was asking you. You could just say "I have no idea, I just saw something on Insta, parroted it, then c&p the first result that gave none of that info" 👍

kurotora · 27/06/2025 16:26

I’m a tattoo artist and I will give you my honest opinion.

Yes, it’s very poorly done. But the example tattoo isn’t good for your skin tone (which is too warm for this) or condition, to be fair it’s not a good design for longevity full stop. It’s not going to look great for long no matter what.

Your previous artist cannot replicate it to a standard that will mitigate this problem.

Get a coverup on the original, listen to the advice you’re given about what’s best for the coverup. Don’t go in with the expectation of delicate and light. Don’t cheap out by going as small as possible (equally you don’t need to do full inner forearm, which some artists will try to sell you on).

Good luck, and I really hope your next artist is a lot more honest and frank about what they can do and what’s a good idea for a tattoo.

What on earth are you on about? Are you okay? Serious question. Most people appreciate the source but you’re obviously triggered. Not my problem 🤷‍♀️

Standard response 🤣 slightly embarrassed for you

Sorry OP, it does look as though you got burned taking something out of the oven 😕

Are you okay? Your responses here are very strange. Are you offended by my mentioning the Danish study? Your vitriol towards a complete stranger is not really normal. I’ve obviously upset you but I wasn’t involved in the study and I am not personally concerned about their findings as I’m ink free.

YonderTweek · 27/06/2025 17:20

Ahhh that's not bad. I was expecting way worse. There are good tattoos and not so good tattoos. Yours looks ok, but I can see that it's not what you wanted and I'm glad you're getting a refund. I'm sure a skilled artist will be able to jazz it up no problem. It will be fine.

I used to be very particular about my tattoos and did the whole "ooh it needs to be deeply meaningful and perfect if I'm going to have it on my body permanently". After about 2945783498 it becomes less of a big deal. Some of my tattoos have faded a bit and look a little odd now, but idgaf because I have bigger things to worry about. I will eventually get them touched up but it's really not a huge thing.

How is that helpful? On a post where someone has just got a tattoo.

i think it’s ideal to post on a thread for tattoos as people need to know the risks. A lot of very health conscious people get tattoos these days without even thinking of any health related implications.

Vitriol? Nothing i have said even comes remotely close to vitriol Confused. Crikey, people are extremely sensitive nowadays.

All I did was ask you a couple of questions around a study you cited. The link you gave did not provide any of the answers. So I pointed that out, which has clearly bothered you.

Like i said, you could have just said "i don't know the answers to your queries".

I'm not upset at all. Or concerned, because i have actually read more about the study than a headline.

Anyway, apologies I was a tiny bit snarky. Hope you're ok.

PrincessSakura · 27/06/2025 17:31

Did you not check the owners work before agreeing to him tattooing you?
Some artists have an amazing range, others are very limited to what styles they can offer, we live and we learn though, I learnt from my first tattoo to properly research and carefully choose an artist, even if it means traveling halfway across the country!

Rocknrollstar · 27/06/2025 17:37

Why?

SassyTraybake · 27/06/2025 17:46

Do keep in mind, if you do want to get it lasered off, that yellow and white ink aren’t detected by lasers.

TheCountessofLocksley · 27/06/2025 17:52

I’ve not voted because YANBU about it not being what you asked for and it is bad/amateurish. But, YABU about not telling them at the time or flagging it up when you saw the stencil/placement. Presumably you paid up and said thanks - how are they to know you dislike it? The original is very pretty.

Have you seen the owners work…..if this isn’t their style they should have said so and you could have walked away. You share the blame you should have gone your due diligence and checked out their work.

Laser off or a cover up seem the way forward - but please find someone who specialises in the stile you want.

OutbackQueen · 27/06/2025 17:56

@CuthbertStrange thanks for that. I have health anxiety which has been under control for a while and I’ve just been triggered.
Do you enjoy being deliberately beastly?
I’m posting about a tattoo FFS.

Christ people are not being very diplomatic on here!
It looks different to what you asked for op but I would have still recognised it as a moon tattoo.

Glitchymn1 · 27/06/2025 17:59

It’s not THAT bad, but nothing like the picture. I’d get it redone, larger by someone else!
It’s a different colour half moon, different angle. It’s not horrific, live with it, let it heal, get it done over!
