Hate my new tattoo

What I asked for. What I got. It’s on the inside of my wrist. I went to my usual place and had it done by the owner - the guy who did my previous delicate and artistic tats has left 🙁
I hate it, it’s so clumsy and even the shape is wrong.
AIBU to dislike it so much? What would you do?

Out of interest, how much are you paying per laser session on this size of tattoo, and what area of the UK? Considering laser for myself and despite being a tattooist I have little idea of laser costs.

£15 a session which lasts a couple of mins at most. I'm in East Midlands border, NN15. Hope that helps.

Does croissant not literally mean crescent?

Ha I never realised that, every day is a school day!

Mygosh · 27/06/2025 19:06

I can see why you aren't happy, but it's not that bad, just looks a bit odd on it's own. Circular shapes are notoriously hard to tattoo correctly because your skin and body move, so distort the shape. Maybe another tattooist can add something or make it better. The good news is that it's very small, easy to remove if you choose to do so.

Ha I never realised that, every day is a school day!

It's also the present participle ("-ing") of the French verb "croître", meaning "to grow".

Sorry OP, it does look as though you got burned taking something out of the oven 😕

This. ^ Sorry @OutbackQueen I would get something added to it, and some more colours. And have a bit less of the pinky red on your tats. They look a little bit like mild burns. (And the pp said, like you've burnt yourself taking something out of the oven.)

(Sorry.) Blush

DraigCymraeg · 27/06/2025 19:32

I hope you get it sorted. There is no suggestion I can offer because I don't understand why anybody would do this to themselves in the first instance.

Indeed @Megifer. I’m actually quite excited about seeing my precious tattooist - he’s a creative genius.

Really? Your other tattoos look good but they’re not on the level of “creative genius”.

I hope he can sort it for you though 🤞

flirtybird · 27/06/2025 19:45

Poor you, it is exciting when getting a new tattoo.

I had one in April and I love mine.

@ThisKindAmberLemur “had their empathy chips removed” 🤣 I’ve received a lot of good and understanding advice here but there are a spiteful few who have decided to wade in to attempt to make a complete stranger feel like shite.
I started this thread to get opinions on the tattoo and what might be done about it. So thank you to the vast majority who did that and only that.
As for the few who felt it appropriate to criticise and lecture, I do wonder what your lives are like and how you treat others generally.

@flirtybird that’s so beautiful and I’m sorry about your mum. I lost mine in 2024 too ❤️
@DraigCymraeg but you don’t really hope I get it sorted do you? And what on earth are you doing in this thread?

🤣🤣 Am right-handed so had to use my left for this! But an ammonite shouldn’t be too difficult to get right…

OP posts:
OutbackQueen · 27/06/2025 20:17

So, I’ve tried to draw an ammonite with my left-hand so it’s shite but I think the shape is nice and won’t be too challenging to do.

@OutbackQueen - try the tattoo advice Reddit, loads of really knowledgeable people on there (who won’t jump on to tell you they don’t like tattoos…).

I think the fossil idea could look really good! I’d definitely shop around though, find out what artists locally have a reputation for cover up work.

I think this could look really beautiful, and is a great solution.

Cannot believe the level of unhelpfulness on this thread. Some PPs obviously need to go to parenting and tell everyone how much they abhor children, or a thread about a new puppy and declare their hatred of dogs.

I'm sure everything gives you cancer if you look hard enough.

Feel like it's my duty to leave this here... 😁

It's not showing up properly for some reason. It's 'The Daily Mail says everything gives you cancer' song from Russel Howard's Good News.

Tbh op that's why I challenged that poster a bit (although you'd think I really laid into them 🤣) it was a bit of a crap thing to post, particularly as it was obviously based off a sensationalist headline or Insta post without actually reading it to it a bit more.

I've got quite a few tatts, and health anxiety, im not concerned in the slightest about that study. Infact I'm booked in for about 2 months time for my next session 😊

You think you’re smart but I actually didn’t see any headline at all. A doctor friend sent it to me as he knows I have an aversion to tattoos. So it’s not about sensationalism at all. The study itself was far more thorough than previous ones and in fact, there’s even a far larger study being undertaken now which will be interesting to see if the results replicate the Danish one.

@CuthbertStrange I’ve just seen your reply to @Megifer trying to justify yourself. I have no words for your behaviour and even if there are risks (doubtful) this is NOT the place to post about it.

The risks aren't doubtful- the EU have just banned some tattoo inks and the HSE in the UK are currently reviewing the risks of certain inks.

The poster wasn't very tactful posting on your thread but a) the world doesn't revolve around not potentially triggering people and b) it has clearly raised some awareness.

You can now make an informed choice about a cover up and ask your practitioner whether their inks are compliant because they may voluntarily be transitioning anyway because the industry should very much be aware of this stuff given they were consulted. Hopefully asking your tattooist these questions will reassure you.

OutbackQueen · 28/06/2025 05:39

@EggnogNoggin I didn’t start this thread because I was concerned about getting tattoos and the potential health risks and I’m sure any reputable tattooist would know about them. I find your comment a) unbelievably patronising. I’m not easily upset but I can spot sanctimonious behaviour a mile off.

As for @CuthbertStrange, what a breathtaking lack of self-awareness and demonstration of deep insecurity. Lashing out at strangers? 🙄 Why are you so obsessed with tattoos if you haven’t got any?
Perhaps help is required if you have an aversion so strong that it compels you to come on threads like this. Can anyone think of a name for tattoo phobia?

All this nonsense has got away totally from what this thread was about.
@BrendaTheBlendeer I really glad you like the ammonite idea!

And thank you @SapphireSeptember, you have indeed fulfilled your duty!

Never had a tattoo but I’m assuming they draw it on first before the needles start and that’s the bit where you say hang on mate, that’s not like I asked for?

It’s not as simple as that. Sometimes the stencil is very basic and then they work from that

SchoolMom1979 · 28/06/2025 09:26

TwigletsAndRadishes · 27/06/2025 16:14

It looks like you've been branded like a cow on a ranch.

That is not a very nice thing to say!

SchoolMom1979 · 28/06/2025 09:38

Did you ask for black and grey? The tattoo you wanted is colour, what you got looks either black and grey, or a very dark purple, defo not the delicate colours from the inspo tattoo. It also looks pretty punched in. I would give it a week or so to heal then find a different artist and show them the picture of what you wanted, they might be able to fix it a bit.
My husband made fun of me, but I bought a load of semi permanent tattoo stickers off Shein, partly so I can get used to placement and ideas, my tattoo artist thought that was a great idea! That's how I got this tattoo, its less than a week old. I also used the artist working on my husband's sleeve, so I knew 100% he was a great artist. I would've tried to find the one who did the other tattoo you were happy with, if possible. Don't dispear, what you got is not hideous, give it time to heal and take it from there! Wish you all the best! Xx
