Is is right that an unpopular govt can reverse the democratic wishes of the UK to have nothing to do with Europe?

Maybe Reform UK is what we need to finally make Brexit work the way the people who voted for it intended it to work.

What all however many thousands of different ways people had in mind, all at the same time? That would be quite a feat. Especially since they don't seem to be able to engage their brains before posting racist shit on social media whilst aspiring to go into politics.

How is that then? Firing water cannons at all those pesky brown people crossing the Channel? One Reform campaigner suggested they could be used as target practice, what a wheeze that would be Shock

Farage reckons it’s done and we shouldn’t be talking about it any more.

Farage reckons it’s done and we shouldn’t be talking about it any more.

That's because he knows it's been an unmitigated disaster. And wants to distance his party from it.

He's a charlatan

Yes, he trotted it out on one of his innumerable Question Time appearances not long ago.

ToWhitToWhoo · 24/05/2025 17:20

First of all, he isn't going to reverse Brexit. I might WISH he was, but he isn't!

Secondly, it's likely that people if given the vote now would vote differently from 2016- if only because of the antics of Trump and Putin.

Thirdly, voting Leave did not necessarily mean voting to have 'nothing to do with Europe'. For example, Norway and Switzerland aren't in the EU, and they have plenty to do with Europe!

ToWhitToWhoo · 24/05/2025 17:24

BIossomtoes · 24/05/2025 15:10

Well, before the Referendum, Farage, anticipating a narrow majority for Remain, said that a 52-48 vote would be 'unfinished business by a long way'. He actually used those very numbers!

No, Nige reckons Brexit hasn't been done, which is why it is appears a disaster. He and Tice will stop all immigration, develop a closer relationship with the US, and make benefit claimants earn their benefits.
We'll have less in the way of "uman rites" and "elf'n'safety" legislation so we can unleash productivity. We shall also scrap Net Zero and all the crazy DEI initiatives which are crippling the UK labour market. It is worth a try, don't you think?

DuncinToffee · 24/05/2025 22:02

Nige is wrong, Brexit is done, the UK left the EU

And no, it's not worth a try to destroy the UK

No, because it's all compete nonsense and the only people who would benefit are Nigel and his very rich friends.
And why would the UK want to get closer to the USA when it is run by someone who changes his kind every two minutes and not our European neighbours?

No, nothing’s worth trying when it would obviously be catastrophic.

He and Tice will stop all immigration,
No they won't.

...develop a closer relationship with the US
Have you seen the state of the US? It's an increasingly unstable society, an increasing security risk with an increasingly unstable economy. Why would we want a closer relationship to that?🤯

No, we must wean ourselves away from our reliance on the US.

DuncinToffee · 25/05/2025 10:02

Will Tice stop all immigration from his Dubai home🤔

Quite, that's just what I was thinking! Not to mention Farage owning a home in Belgium, and seeming to spend more time in the USA than in Clacton,

Tice doesn't live in Dubai.

His partner does and he flies out to visit her from time to time.

Stop spreading misinformation

And why would UK want to get closer to the EU when so many of it's members' economies are failing due to financial problems?

"Being neighbours" means naff all. No neighbours are better than bad neighbours.

DuncinToffee · 26/05/2025 09:57

From his partners Dubai home then seeing he is splitting his time between Skegness and there

So remove the hard-won protections for British workers to not suffer accidents and injuries at work, and allow them to be exploited by turbo-capitalist corporate elites like Tice & Farage.

Stopping all immigration would be idiotic in the extreme, we don’t have enough workers as it is.

And net zero is essential to the long term survival of civilisation.

@HangryLikeTheHulk "So remove the hard-won protections for British workers to not suffer accidents and injuries at work, and allow them to be exploited by turbo-capitalist corporate elites like Tice & Farage."

Stop being so dramatic.

We have plenty of H & S laws to protect workers, but some workers ignore the rules and end up getting injured.
Some are just simple things like using ear protectors or safety specs which they can't be bothered with.

You can't legislate against idiocy

So what H&S legislation is Reform planning to remove ? It’s there for a reason.

I wasn't aware it was going to remove any, so you have the advantage on me there.

Maybe we need to hear from the OP who claimed

“We'll have less in the way of "uman rites" and "elf'n'safety" legislation so we can unleash productivity. We shall also scrap Net Zero and all the crazy DEI initiatives which are crippling the UK labour market.”

Somehow celebrating the removal of workers right, protections and the laws which protect women against discrimination. Baffling. Only exploitative turbocapitalist fatcats could possibly support exploiting the workforce in the name of productivity. Any working class person who supports Reform is completely deluded.
