Is is right that an unpopular govt can reverse the democratic wishes of the UK to have nothing to do with Europe?

Maybe we need to hear from the OP who claimed

“We'll have less in the way of "uman rites" and "elf'n'safety" legislation so we can unleash productivity. We shall also scrap Net Zero and all the crazy DEI initiatives which are crippling the UK labour market.”

Somehow celebrating the removal of workers right, protections and the laws which protect women against discrimination. Baffling. Only exploitative turbocapitalist fatcats could possibly support exploiting the workforce in the name of productivity. Any working class person who supports Reform is completely deluded.

Yes, go and berate the person who said that, not me !

I really don't know why you are getting your panties in a bunch about something that may never happen.

We are 4 years away from a General Election. It is not certain that Reform would be elected and even so, that they would want to rip up a load of legislation.

It seems to me that you're "shouting before you're hurt"

I was responding directly to the OP. You involved yourself.

My points are still valid.

The OP hasn't responded, so have fun talking to yourself about things that may never happen 🙄

Bit like finding brexit benefits......

BIossomtoes · 26/05/2025 11:36

I found one - the non EU passport queue at Pisa airport was much, much shorter than the EU one. One benefit in nine years.

Notonthestairs · 26/05/2025 13:03

Yup, that’s really going to bump GDP by 4%.

brexitbarbie · 26/05/2025 13:05

Notonthestairs · 26/05/2025 13:03

Yup, that’s really going to bump GDP by 4%.

Well it stops waste for a start, which keeps the price down for the consumer.

Don't you want cheaper food?

What are you talking about ??

Notonthestairs · 26/05/2025 13:08

Well that’s the positive element of the new arrangements with the EU in that it reduces import/export costs and paperwork . Not a Brexit benefit though as it was easier before.

brexitbarbie · 26/05/2025 13:07

The express article, the EU ban was axed in 2009

The express article, the EU ban was axed in 2009

I know it was.

I'm not arguing with you.

Just another example of a stupid EU regulation.

But then the Spanish wanted to bring it back.

Just shows that the EU is full of morons.

@Whoarethoseguys "And why would the UK want to get closer to the USA when it is run by someone who changes his kind every two minutes and not our European neighbours?"

And why would UK want to get closer to the EU when so many of it's members' economies are failing due to financial problems?

"Being neighbours" means naff all. No neighbours are better than bad neighbours.

We're all having financial problems. Due in part to the instability of the US. Hitching our wagon to that sinking ship would be a big mistake while Trump's destroying things.

We are and will always be part of Europe.

Why say it was a brexit benefit then?

brexitbarbie · 26/05/2025 13:23

@TooBigForMyBoots "We are and will always be part of Europe."

Maybe geographically but not economically.

Russia is part of Europe so do you want to cosy up to them?

brexitbarbie · 26/05/2025 13:25

DuncinToffee · 26/05/2025 13:14

I didn't, the Express did.

DuncinToffee · 26/05/2025 13:28

brexitbarbie · 26/05/2025 13:25

I didn't, the Express did.

But you posted that in reply to a brexit benefit.

You didn't say it was another brexit lie.

brexitbarbie · 26/05/2025 13:51

@TooBigForMyBoots "We're all having financial problems"

Too right, especially Germany for example.
Germany hasn't seen significant economic growth in five years
Europe is heavily dependent on Germany as the economic engine, and that economic engine is failing.
Germany depended on cheap Russian energy, an open and uncompetitive Chinese market, and cheap American security.
All three of those factors ended at virtually the same time. Germany now has expensive American energy (and no Russian energy), an imperiled Chinese market, and expensive US security.
Years of self-inflicted austerity haven't helped.

The rest of the EU is growing a bit, but mostly the smaller economies that can't carry the EU on their own. The only other comparable economy, France, is trying to push for a more protectionist path that will further harm the German model.
Germany has been in recession for the past two years.

Add onto that the euro has weakened against the dollar, further impacting the EU's economic standing.

To align ourselves with this sinking ship is madness.

To cut ourselves off from the market on our doorstep is madness and completely nonsensical.

Brexit barbie and panties indicate so.

Surely the number of people who use the phrase "getting your panties in a bunch" and also have the right to vote in UK elections must be in single figures?

Are you part of the campaign for us to become the 52nd state of America? (After Greenland, of course.)

It's quite amusing the see all the Remoaners Remainers frothing at the mouth because 5 years on they still can't accept they lost.

You're absolutely right. I can't. You may think it's funny, I don't. An act of self sabotage never amuses me. And after all these years not one Brexiteer has been able to point out a tangible benefit. Not one Brexiteer, not one benefit. What does that tell you??

To be honest, I find it amusing to see the sheer desperation of Brexiteers trying to justify their position. It's laughable! (and their numbers are dwindling by the day)

And what I have seen time and time again... people I know who voted to Leave, now say they either can't remember how they voted (hahaha) and no, they didn't vote Leave, they voted to remain! Pull the other one, you were crowing about it when the result came in! They are embarrassed to admit they contributed to this act of self sabotage quite obviously!

And after all these years not one Brexiteer has been able to point out a tangible benefit. Not one Brexiteer, not one benefit. What does that tell you??

Don't be ridiculous. I was a remainer, but now that I can drive into the Dartford Tunnel and sit in gridlocked traffic gazing in wonder at the new markings on the walls I've changed my thinking. I mean, sure we've lost a few things along the way. Freedom of movement, economic security, the political strength that results in closer ties of finances and geopolitics, but totally worth it for those markings. Huge, huge benefit imo.

For those that bothered to read my post about the economic collapse of the EU,
I listed some very good reasons not to align ourselves with that sinking ship.
