Peasnbeans · 02/05/2025 23:01

And that he's no economist skills yet promising the impossible. And a racist. And mysoginist.

If Mumsnet is full of women, how is no-one talking about Reform and limiting women's rights?
I know I'll get flamed for this, but it is a boiling frog situation! Jump out!
And I didn't choose the AIBU board but I looked down all the Current Threads and this didn't feature.

I have no idea what/who you are talking about. I know certain areas have had local elections but mine hasn't, so can you expand your post a little?

Limiting women's rights?

steff13 · 02/05/2025 23:37

There was a thread about it this morning. I was under the impression "Reform" was a party, not a person, though.

gottakeeponmoving · 02/05/2025 23:39

Which women's rights are Reform limiting?

User46576 · 02/05/2025 23:40

Can you be more specific?

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 03/05/2025 00:03

I imagine many people vote for them BECAUSE of the racism and misogyny. It reflects their views and they wish to support it. Its very sad. I always thought the UK was better than this.

randomchap · 03/05/2025 00:13

They're just another populist party, promoting simple solutions to complex problems. Solutions that won't actually work.

They have realised that there is a significant proportion of the UK population who have failed at life. People with poor education, dead end jobs, and limited means.

They are aggressively targeting these people, telling them that it's not their fault. It's the immigrants, the woke, the lgbtq, who are the cause of their misfortune.

With the fptp system, if you can get these people to vote for you then you may be able to get power.

The cynical part of me thinks that they will be delighted to get so many councils under Reform control. Not so that they can try to improve people's lives, but so that they can do massive damage. Damage that they can say is the fault of the Labour government.

In my area one of their candidates promised to fix all potholes, and go back to weekly bin collections. When they fail in this, they will simply blame central government, and tell their acolytes that voting in Reform in the GE will fix it. It's obvious but very hard to counter.

Keirawr · 03/05/2025 03:34

You are not making any sense, try again.

But let’s see…

As far as being an economist goes, everyone is an economist if the Mickey Mouse chancellor who lied on her CV, plagiarized books and was accused of fiddling her expenses while working in the private sector is anything to go by. The bar is so low, that anything would be an improvement on that.

And wanting to limit immigration is not racist. You are behind the times. Squealing that people are racist for perfectly valid views is no longer enough to shame them and shut them up.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 03/05/2025 03:49

One day, if Reform ever get in (ugh) people will find out that it isnt immigrants taking all the money, but another group in society. Except we already know this.

StrawberryWater · 03/05/2025 04:02

Reform are just a bunch of Tories and blowhard establishment types (not to mention racists, bigots and people with questionable backgrounds) who helped ruin the country.

It astounds me that anyone would think they would bring about change. You're just voting back in the people you wanted rid of!

Couldn't make it up. Like turkeys voting for Christmas.

HeySugarSugar · 03/05/2025 04:05

Why are the first few posters pretending not to understand? 😳 Reform IS Farage - most people would be hard pushed to name any of the other MPs or any of their policies for that matter. He’s an appalling individual but his role model is Trump so none of it is a surprise 🤬

Moveanymountain · 03/05/2025 04:16

Because people cannot stomach 500+ “migrants” coming to the UK illegally every day but getting food, housing, health care etc while citizens pay more and more tax for poorer services.

i know this is going to come across as a racist, hateful post but we are a small island and we cannot just keep endlessly shelling out for illegals.

that’s why right wing groups are gaining all over Europe .

So basically people are scared their benefits are being taken of them, never mind funding themselves they want the government to do it for them

No. I’m not on benefits nor are anyone I know. But one hotel-full a day getting funded is more than people can stomach when all our taxes are going through the roof.

Simply put ….. I feel for these people on an individual basis but funding them is not sustainable

DutchEmerald · 03/05/2025 05:21

Which womens rights will be damaged by Reform party councillors?

If she is talking about Nigel Farage, he was definitely racist at school towards black and Jewish pupils.

Wanting to limit immigration isn't necessarily racist but many of their candidates during the General Election had a history of racism that came to light afterwards, as they didn't vet their candidates properly.

thepariscrimefiles · 03/05/2025 05:52

Ablondiebutagoody · 02/05/2025 23:36

Limiting women's rights?

I assume that because Nigel Farage is a big supporter of Trump who says he’s ‘proudly responsible’ for the reversal of Roe v. Wade, but he’s not stopping there – he thinks ‘there has to be some form of punishment’ for women who access reproductive care and would allow states to punish doctors who provide abortions. Nigel Farage has previously said that he would like a debate on lowering the time limit for an abortion from 24 weeks.

Meadowfinch · 03/05/2025 05:53

@thepariscrimefiles I think we all probably did things at school that would not bear scrutiny now. I know I did. That's normal for teenagers.

It doesn't mean they still do the same things as adults.

BoldBlueZebra · 03/05/2025 05:55

for the first time I did not vote- I can’t vote for these people they’re idiots.

I’m not sure people are voting for reform per se I think it’s more not voting for the usual candidates and a lack of alternatives. If there were a more moderate candidate who was blending the populist rhetoric with a moderate - and plausible scenario to address key issues, people would vote for that. But reform have seen a gap in the market and are exploiting that picking up the voters who are disenfranchised from the traditional parties.

But the writing is on the wall now people want change and whoever will give them that will get the vote - ignore that at your peril.

Meadowfinch · 03/05/2025 06:03

OP, it's a protest vote.

The Tories cocked up and badly needed weeding out and a change of guard, not that I think KB was a good choice. Labour took over and have alienated just about everyone - pensioners, rural communities, the NHS, the civil service, benefits claimants......

RR is dishonest and doesn't have a basic grasp of economics. The govt as a whole is divisive and spiteful.

So people have expressed their resentment. It was inevitable. How people would vote at a general election would be very different. Reform have 5 MPs. They would need 300 to come close to forming a govt

IMustDoMoreExercise · 03/05/2025 06:07

Their chairman is a brown Muslim so they are hardly racist.

Nigel rejected Tommy Robinson.

IMustDoMoreExercise · 03/05/2025 06:09

Also, where is the misogyny? I assume that they agree with JKR.

People are sick of immigration and the costs of it . it’s changing the fabric of society . Whether Reform sort it or not we don’t know but we do know the other parties haven’t at their peril . It doesn’t effect me in my nice middle class enclave with the money to buy my way out of most situations , no kids at schools etc etc but if I was a WC family struggling with resources then I would also be angry .

An amateur football team got sponsorship from Bonnie Blue (now withdrawn after the FA got involved) supported in the main by men, women largely did not (local FB group comments) not all but you get the idea.

Then the local elections came along... the people who back Bonnie Blue, also support Reform....

Farage supports the AfD, he was friends with Andrew Tate, he is a strong Trump supporter... "Grab em by the pussy" hey!

People come out with "..but their chair is an Asian..." so fucking what? can't Asians be misogynistic racists too??
