Are people still driving Tesla’s?

EddyF · 26/03/2025 19:20

There was a time in my area (London) where every other car driven was a Tesla, including quite a few Ubers I used to order. Now, there are hardly any (I am not saying people don’t drive them anymore). Has anyone else noticed this?

Elon is so unlikable to me including his face. I don’t even think he is ‘smart’ as Trump/his supporters likes to call him. I will admit I did love the cars when I didn’t know much about him. Now, I can’t stand the cars as they just remind me of the awful Elon.

I test drove a Model 3, and putting aside lunatic company heads, it just wasn't a very good car. The build quality was fucking dreadful, and so many of it's features were just change for change sake.

It's the apple of the car world - you can get better for much less money, but people don't buy it because of that.

Why on earth did you take a picture of it?? 😂😂😂

I have seen far more non-Tesla cars on tow trucks than I have seen Teslas. So, there you go. Non-Tesla cars are really unpopular and everyone is getting rid of them because of the political affiliations of one of the shareholders.

I didn't take a picture that would just be weird and illegal.

Obviously cars breakdown but the original post was about Tesla and that's what my comment was based on.

I've got a dashcam and since it was suggested it I was making it up I just pulled the footage.

Some people do make car decisions based on their political views. I've lost count of the number of comments I've had due to having a French car.

Byd electric cars are way better than Tesla's, and cheaper too.

Indeed, though hobbled by tariffs. Their new saloon is 17k.

China's BYD could kill Tesla

Tesla dominated the EV industry because it was the first manufacturer to produce slick, fast, and brilliantly designed cars.

JasmineAllen · 27/03/2025 10:12

The only time I'd judge someone for the car they drive is if they were driving a huge Hummer gas guzzler type thing because they are so environmentally unfriendly and take up way too much space on the roads. Other than that I wouldn't notice the make of a car.

Also, who on earth has the money to change car on a whim?

As for vandalising random privately owned Teslas because you don't like Elon Musk WTF. That is mindless rent a mob behaviour and the perpetrators idiots doing it should quite rightly be prosecuted for criminal damage.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/03/2025 10:17

Lots of Volkswagens still
on the road!

Toddlerteaplease · 27/03/2025 10:19

There was someone on my local BBC news page, who was selling his. I thought it was more of a stealth boast that he had one in the first place, and that he could afford the financial hit.

TheFairyCaravan · 27/03/2025 10:21

I’ve got an EV and will continue to charge it at Tesla when I go to see DS2. I loathe Elon Musk and his views, however there are very few charging points where DS2 lives. The Tesla garage is about a mile down the road, and it’s cheap. Until the infrastructure gets better I can’t afford to be choosy otherwise I won’t get home.

We are locked into an airtight finance deal on ours until next summer. There is nothing we can do about it.

What are your plans after next year ?

jotex · 27/03/2025 10:39

When I told my sister in January that I had test drove a Tesla Model 3 she was quite shocked that I would even consider one because of the Musk connection. Honestly, it didn't even cross my mind. Does that make me a bad person? Insensitive? Anyway, the car was a huge disappointment and I bought a Renault 5 a few weeks ago instead.

WinterMorn · 27/03/2025 11:05

We will be handing the car back to the finance provider as soon as we can.

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/03/2025 11:07

Lots where we are, MW England and central Scotland .

He's a twat but I understand the cars are very efficient and reliable.

Arrivals4lucky · 27/03/2025 09:30

From 0 to 1939 in 6 seconds is it??? Enjoy. It’s not like you can’t get anyone to buy it 2nd hand off you anyway.

That’s not why I like it although it is bloody fast. And I do enjoy it thanks, I’ve had it for 5 years now and not planning on selling it so that’s ok too.
Some people on here have too much time on their hands for judging people with a particular car. Musk was not the reason I bought it and am definitely not a supporter of him. I bought it for the environmental reasons and because at the time it had the best mileage range of all the electric cars.

"Efficient and reliable" are rather loaded words when discussing Nazis.

sageGreen81 · 27/03/2025 11:42

We just got a new one, we are immigrant family. I have family in the Middle East that work for Tesla and family in Canada too. It’s a great car, there are plenty round here. It’s a company car so I didn’t have a lot of choice but it’s a brilliant car!!

PizzaPowder · 27/03/2025 11:49

Of course they are

Arrivals4lucky · 27/03/2025 09:37

Ooh, so tough, so butch! Sexy. That really sums up Musk supporters…

on our street one had a penis sprayed on it when they weren’t looking. Then it got keyed or perhaps it was a knife, anyway they didn’t see that either. Put out a plea in the WA group for witnesses - oddly no-one responded. Not sure if they’re the fighting kind but they have changed car now anyway.
Probably the vandalism and getting rid of the car are unrelated…

They wouldn’t have needed to put out a request for witnesses, the car’s cameras would’ve picked the footage up. People are stupid. The mentality of it is just crazy.

Mind you, if people really believe Musk is a Nazi there’s no helping them really.

GoldfinchFeather · 27/03/2025 12:44

I find it quite funny people are trying to use the excuse of "I bought this before I knew he was a [insert label of your choice here]".

Really? It's not that long ago he was defaming that poor chap online who was trying to help those Thai boys stuck in a cave by calling him "pedo guy". Or smoking weed on a podcast. The evidence that he's a wrong'un has been there all along if you'd bothered to pay the slightest bit of attention to what he was doing.

As for Teslas, I've always thought they're hideously ugly cars - and you usually only ever see them in boring white as well. So, if there's one good thing to come out of that idiot being in the White House, it's that there might be fewer of them on the road.

I'm calling bull on this. They wouldn't need witnesses as the car is covered in cameras 😄Try again 😄🙄

simpledeer · 26/03/2025 19:57

Really unpopular in my area and people have been carving swastikas into them.

Do you live in a village full of idiots ?

SeaShellsSanctuary1 · 27/03/2025 13:24

Most Teslas will be on some sort of lease contract. It's not quite that simple to be able to hand one back but we will see the effect over the coming years

The good news though is that as they don't own them when the contract is up they won't face the loss of selling a highly devalued car.

It won't matter what anyone's personal thoughts on Musk are nobody wants be seen driving a car that is now branded a 'Swasticar'.

I love the fact that the untouchable richest man in the world has brought this upon himself. I was a big fan of all his SpaceX work but all that has changed since he's been flinging Nazi salutes

Assuming the cameras work properly, of course.

His Mars plans are totally hatstand.

Now Bezos makes a lot more sense. None of this colonisation guff (which does sound remarkably white supremacist no matter how it's spun). Instead we should be putting heavy industry in space to (a) harness free solar power and (b) move the pollution off the earth.

Sleepinggreyhounds · 27/03/2025 13:27

Lolapusht · 26/03/2025 19:43

Absolutely not.

As soon as Trump got in, I pushed mine to the local Conservative Club and torched it in the car park. It’s still burning now.

Surprised you needed to torch it - thought they spontaneously combusted.

Sentry mode (a) requires you to have it activated, which many people don't as it drains the battery at a rate of ~ 5% to 10% per 24 hours and (b) relies on a combination of proximity and sudden movement. So its unlikely to pick up a person casually walking by and keying it, or spraying graffitti on it. Like many things Musk related, it over promises and under delivers!
