Are people still driving Tesla’s?

EddyF · 26/03/2025 19:20

There was a time in my area (London) where every other car driven was a Tesla, including quite a few Ubers I used to order. Now, there are hardly any (I am not saying people don’t drive them anymore). Has anyone else noticed this?

Elon is so unlikable to me including his face. I don’t even think he is ‘smart’ as Trump/his supporters likes to call him. I will admit I did love the cars when I didn’t know much about him. Now, I can’t stand the cars as they just remind me of the awful Elon.

For anyone interested in his story (even if you hate him it’s always good to know your enemy)

Sorry! They were great when they first launched; genuinely market leading tech in 2012 or whenever they went on sale as your choice of EV was basically a Yesla Models S, Nissan Leaf or a Renault Zoe. We are now nearly 14 years on, and while Tesla have constantly updated software, and tweaked the exterior and interior a bit, there's nothing market leading about any of their models now.

They are however cheap and reliable, which, as a mass market car, is all many people want... I mean, the VW Beetle (the people's car) was delevoped under Hitler ;)

My last boss had one. The whole company knew as we all ended up being taken for a spin in it.

Until he forgot to charge it once.

Thats weird, because i have to keep telling people not to use the manual override thats in the exact same place any normal mechanical door handle would be on the front doors, or just under the seat carpet on the rears...

You clearly have fuck all idea about how quickly someone can go from rational to insane when confronted with fire.

We will be buying a Tesla in the next few months. We are hoping all of the weirdos who are selling their cars for their morals, will make them cheaper.

Why does taking a moral stance make someone a weirdo? You might not agree with them but they are entitled to make whatever decisions they like about their own possessions

You do realise that goes both ways.

Read your last sentence again. If people want to drive a Tesla,it's their choice.

Of course it is, I didn't say anything different, my post was asking why a person who chooses to sell their Tesla would be a weirdo.

Neither side is right or wrong, it's absolutely up to the individual

I have no skin in this game, I dont have a Tesla but I think everyone who does is entitled to decide what they do with it without judgement

I imagine most people are ashamed to be associated with a Nazi.

Doesn’t seem to have done VW any harm.

Shegotanology · 27/03/2025 22:12

So many people banging on about VWs. Yes, their origins are in fascist Germany and hopefully, most of us have learned what happens when fascists take control of government. I haven't seen any current shareholders of VWs that have openly done a Hitler salute, have you @brunettemic ?

Clearinguptheclutter · 27/03/2025 22:43

A few of them round here
I don’t blame people for not wanting to replace a perfectly good car but gave a somewhat shocked face to my colleague who admitted he was getting a new one (leased not bought so not quite as bad). I suspect he will regret it.

How do you forget to charge it? You don't forget to fill an ICE.

Yes, but this scenario applies to any modern car with automatically locking doors / central locking. Which is basically most cars built since about 1990.

Once again, I would not now line Musk's pockets, but some of the usual EV FUD on here just makes me want to bang my head on the keyboard.

Also, given that BEVs are about 100 times less likely to catch fire than an ICE, (Internal Combustion Engine), this is a scenario that is far less likey to occur in a Tesla (or any other BEV).

LameBorzoi · 27/03/2025 23:57

Come to think of it, it's harder to forget to charge a BEV than it is to forget to fuel an ICE. You put a BEV onto charge every night. Fueling an ICE happens whenever.

Coolasfeck · 28/03/2025 02:49

I find it bizarre that car owners appear to be being blamed for the recent behaviour of the largest shareholder of their car model. The Guardian newspaper is also embarrassingly 6th form politics on this.

Most people had no idea Musk was crazy until it made headlines a few months ago. Most people don’t have time and money to switch cars that easily, and why should they?

Is this the new normal? Consumers blamed when the owner acts badly? Should we start a campaign to burn Amazon Prime vans? Or physically attack Facebook users? Bezos and Zuckerberg support Trump too which must mean consumers of their products should be attacked? Will there be a daily Guardian article encouraging this?

Nugg · 28/03/2025 02:57

I’ve been in West London this week and every other car was a Tesla and in Yorkshire where I now live, there are still a fair few

Bringbackjaspers · 28/03/2025 03:10

It's all so much moronic tribal bullshit. If David from London get a swastika scratched on his car, how is that hurting Musk. If David has to take it back to Tesla for repairs, it's actually providing extra profits for the company so despised by the vandal.

Some people are hard of thinking, that's for sure.

CaptainFuture · 28/03/2025 04:12

Oh no @Bringbackjaspers David from London is going to thank the twatty vandals, bow to their superior brain power and throw the keys to the Tesla into the Thames! Huzzah to idiotic bandwagonneers!!

They don’t have keys. He’d have to throw the card into the Thames (and delete the app from his phone).

We have a Tesla model Y. Our last car was very expensive to run and cost about £2k whenever it needed fixing (which was happening more and more). We also have to pay for a residents’ parking permit, which is miles cheaper for an EV.

Assuming the cameras work properly, of course.

At least one camera on the pillar between front and back doors on each side

I don't agree with vandalism, but actions like this further the idea that the brand is seen to be toxic. This reduces income for Tesla and as a result, Musk. Who wants to buy a car that might get vandalised and people take the piss out of?

No way do I agree with the vandalism though.

VW was 80 odd years ago. This is current.

Why would the cameras not work properly? They have no moving parts, and there are 8 of them. If one did fail, you would just alert Telsa with the app and they'd come and fix it for you.

Honestly, the nonsense you are posting makes me sound like a Tesla salesman. I'm not, I promise, I just find anti BEV FUD irritating.
