Are people still driving Tesla’s?

EddyF · 26/03/2025 19:20

There was a time in my area (London) where every other car driven was a Tesla, including quite a few Ubers I used to order. Now, there are hardly any (I am not saying people don’t drive them anymore). Has anyone else noticed this?

Elon is so unlikable to me including his face. I don’t even think he is ‘smart’ as Trump/his supporters likes to call him. I will admit I did love the cars when I didn’t know much about him. Now, I can’t stand the cars as they just remind me of the awful Elon.

i saw one for the first time yesterday, well i noted it!

Rubyupbeat · 27/03/2025 06:09

Although I agree with op, I do hope everyone who has handed back or not bought a Tesla because of this, have also boycotted every other make that is either harming the environment ie. Fast fashion or has a dark history Hugo Boss, Aeg, Audi, BMW.....There are hundreds of them, making their fortunes off the back of suffering in the past.

I don't think people generally worry too dee0ly about the personality and politics of the ceo of the car manufacturers they buy from. I also think you are in a seriously opaque bubble if you think everyone else in the country shares your distaste for Musk. I doubt a Reform voter would care, for exanple, if they liked the car.

However the kinds of people who buy cars from brand new tend to be people who also expect to buy a new car quite regularly so I expect all the new teslas you saw iLondon n a couple of years ago have now been sold 2nd hand to people all over the country so they aren't so concentrated now. I understand there have been some technical problems with some tesla vehicles so I wouldn't be surprised if they are being bought less now, but not due to Musk personally.

See, this misinformation really drives me batty.

I don't support Musk/Trump, and I don't know about Cybertrucks. BUT Teslas have a lower real failure rate than most brands. There was a lot of rubbish information spread by anti EV interests in any Murdoch owned media.

They inflated the "recall" rates by calling the scheduled software updates "recalls".

Lots round my area. I dont like electric cars full stop. My H has one as a works car. Hate having to drive the thing

I'm in ALOT of Tesla's groups and technical failures are very rare. There may be a small minor glitch when there's a big update. Again, very rare. We've never experienced it. Don't believe everything you read about them failing or bursting into flames 🤣

DisneyTokyoNewbie · 27/03/2025 08:06

I love electric cars. They are smooth and comfortable to drive, cheaper to run. I've had lots of electric cars....the Tesla isn't the best one I've had. It's tough to turn and apart from the techy bells and whistles it's just a pretty average electric vehicle. I had already decided to swap it out at the end of my contract. I don't like Trump and where I always had a modicum of grudging respect for Musks business chops and role in agitating the petrol car market, I am appalled at his recent "interventions" in politics. But I still drive my Tesla. Mainly because I don't actually have a choice. I can't break my finance lease and I can't afford to pay twice and I need a car for work. 🤷‍♀️. What do those in favour of boycotting suggest me and thousands of others do no in this circumstance. I'm all ears.

Not necessarily broken down, they're almost always delivered or collected on the back of a flatbed truck.

Really?!

He’s owned it for quite some time and it’s been on a recovery truck twice that I have seen.

Also my ex has had one since 2019 and recently he has had all sorts of issues with his which were very expensive to fix.

DeepRoseFish · 27/03/2025 08:34

@FixTheBone and the reason I noticed the car being towed away was because a very loud alarm was going off on it as the recovery vehicle drove past my house which they were not able to switch off! Honestly this actually happened. It was like a fog horn.

Any machine can be faulty. However, BEVs (including Teslas) are less likely to be, because they have fewer moving parts. Tesla parts are (or were) reasonable compared to equivalently priced cars.

The caveat is that a 2019 Tesla might still be one of the early Calafornia built ones.

whalesorwales · 27/03/2025 09:18

I have a Tesla, it’s so lovely to drive.

I doubt that everyone has instantly scrapped them.

This. Give over OP. Stop trying to make fetch happen.

If you can’t separate a person from the company they own, I’d hate for you to look into the majority of companies on the planet.

There’s lots of Tesla’s but maybe a few less recently from people who don’t want to support him.

Sure…
we didn’t buy one pre all this fucking nonsense because we thought Musk was a prick, but now? Not a chance.
50% dropping sales - so we obvs not the only ones who think like this WHO would want to be associated with Tesla now? When the owner is throwing out Nazi salutes?
Voting with your wallet sometimes really is the only way to make an impact.
I see a Tesla now and think ‘wanker’…

From 0 to 1939 in 6 seconds is it??? Enjoy. It’s not like you can’t get anyone to buy it 2nd hand off you anyway.

Or wear Hugo Boss....

Or Chanel!

I assume all these boycotting people aren’t buying anything made under the control of the Chinese government. Surely we can all agree that the Chinese government is worse than Musk?

PurpleAxe · 26/03/2025 20:41

Yep, and we are considering a second for the household now DS2 is a driver. The new Model Y, looks great.

I don't give a fuck about Musk one way or the other.

Anyone damaging our property can look forward to a punch in the face, we are not all quiet law abiding citizens.

Ooh, so tough, so butch! Sexy. That really sums up Musk supporters…

on our street one had a penis sprayed on it when they weren’t looking. Then it got keyed or perhaps it was a knife, anyway they didn’t see that either. Put out a plea in the WA group for witnesses - oddly no-one responded. Not sure if they’re the fighting kind but they have changed car now anyway.
Probably the vandalism and getting rid of the car are unrelated…

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 26/03/2025 21:57

Is this transparent enough?

That's the only Tesla I've seen this week. Does that mean there's less around no.

Don't appreciate the implication I was making it up though.

Why on earth did you take a picture of it?? 😂😂😂

I have seen far more non-Tesla cars on tow trucks than I have seen Teslas. So, there you go. Non-Tesla cars are really unpopular and everyone is getting rid of them because of the political affiliations of one of the shareholders.

I've yet to see a Tesla being towed. We do a lot of London to Cornwall travel. Must be driving with our eyes shut...🤣

Shedloads of them around here. I judge each and every driver.

That says a lot about you …..and none of its good.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 27/03/2025 09:59

Tesla's are a cheap, mass market car and so will continue to sell reasonably well to price sensitive consumers, with enough incentives. They are the Ford Mondeo of the 21st century. Their problem is that their product range (in the UK) is both small and dated - you can only get a mid size saloon and a mid size crossover/people carrier thing - neither of which are model formats that really apeal to UK drivers. In addition, there are many many more EVs on the market than when those were both launched - some 6 years ago now. Many of the new entrants are cheaper, have better tech, are better built or, in many cases, all 3.

WinterMorn · 27/03/2025 10:03

Breezybetty · 26/03/2025 22:05

I sometimes wonder if people think they get billed every time they use indicators. What other explanation could there be for not using them?

I assume all Tesla drivers are twats, just like Elon. Donald trumps advert at the white house didn’t disused me of this notion, no matter how illogical it is.

I drive my husbands Tesla on occasion. I’m not a “twat”, as you so delicately put it. People like you really add so little to these conversations.

There is a good chance they will be, if it is true, considering the number of cameras they have all over them.

Anyone not wearing a hoodie and facemask is doing vandalism wrong.
