The tide is turning on Trump

  1. CNN now, poll shows majority of Americans disapprove of Trump.
  1. Commentator stated that Trump spoke about his several conversations with Putin and alarm bells ring, because Trump is parroting what Putin says. No independent thoughts?
  1. He comes over as having memory problems. He forgets what he said earlier.
  1. He needs help running press conferences and appears unable to manage without support.

Is he ill?

It's very odd.

Still has his hard-core support but they'd love him.no matter what

By the way, this poll they are sharing was completed BEFORE the exchange with Zekensky

I don't think it matters. I can see that he's basically at 0% net approval on polling averages and will probably be in the negatives shortly, but he had negative approval during most of his first term (as did Biden).

User32459 · 03/03/2025 17:36

Sadly the last president was even more cognitively impaired which allowed Trump back in.

ImmediateReaction · 03/03/2025 17:42

"Every single day we hear another quote from Trump that is out of the mouth of the Kremlin"

Sounds like a movie, Putin is running the President.

I don't think CNN is a very reliable source to gage the opinion of Trump supporters.

The opinion polls were from various sources, they just showed them.

Is there any mechanism in the US for ousting an unpopular president?

dottiehens · 03/03/2025 18:33

When did CNN said Trump was doing well? Never, they are very anti Trump. I would said that based on watching CNN you would have thought Kamala Harris had it in the bag to win the elections.

Mrsbloggz · 03/03/2025 18:35

It does seem that his is increasingly unpopular, he better crack down hard & quick, make himself Emporer of the universe so no-one can challenge him!

They're a good pollster. Fox News do good polls do, despite my many other misgivings about it as a network. Biases in news reporting do not tend to significantly affect the polling methodologies and outcomes.

The CNN poll is also not out of keeping with other polls. You can see averages (and poll by poll breakdowns) here:

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/approval/donald-trump/?ex_cid=abcpromo

All polls give Trump either a slightly positive or slightly negative net approval, and they've been steadily trending more negative.

Nope death, impeachment or resignation. I wouldn’t necessarily believe cnn polling it’s pretty biased. I did before the election and honestly thought we’d be living in a world with Kamala Harris as president.

CNNs last poll before the election showed a popular vote tie (so about 1.5% off the actual result), which implied a Trump win in the Electoral College.

Wildflowers99 · 03/03/2025 18:51

Even the Daily Mail readers are turning on him.

Porcuporpoise · 03/03/2025 18:53

I'd love to agree with you but I feel the tide's still a long way from turning. I'd love to be wrong, though.

Is the tide turning in terms of his net popularity? Yes. He had a brief honeymoon period where he had positive net approval, and that seems to now be over.

Does it matter? No, not really. If those approving of him dip to or below 30% (which would indicate his base was turning on him) then that'd be interesting, but I don't think that'll happen and we're certainly a long way off from it.

He’s just been elected and he’s not particularly unpopular based on recent history.

The only way to oust a sitting president is for the House of Representatives to impeach him (done twice last time) and for the Senate to convict him of the impeachable offence by a 2/3s majority (which didn’t happen last time).

There's also the 25th amendment (if the President becomes unfit to serve) but that isn't realistically going to be used anytime soon, either.

My thoughts exactly. Just like the Taron Egerton thriller Carry-On in a different context.

Assassination!

If trump was ousted somehow then it'd be President Vance wouldn't it?

Out of the frying pan into the fire.Confused

28Fluctuations · 03/03/2025 20:07

Does it matter what the electorate thinks of a dictator?

Let's ask the Russians.

I actually don't think his foreign policy would be as Trumpian.

Domestically for the US though, sure.

southerngirl10 · 03/03/2025 20:08

Would take with a pinch of salt what CNN say. Biased reporting, anti trump. Think he has a few more faculties than the last president, which, unfortunately for them is not there any more.
