The tide is turning on Trump

  1. CNN now, poll shows majority of Americans disapprove of Trump.
  1. Commentator stated that Trump spoke about his several conversations with Putin and alarm bells ring, because Trump is parroting what Putin says. No independent thoughts?
  1. He comes over as having memory problems. He forgets what he said earlier.
  1. He needs help running press conferences and appears unable to manage without support.

Is he ill?

It's very odd.

Oh dear. Actually journalists eh? Where are you currently finding those? Any tips for us sheeple?

CNN is a dying legacy media. Most Americans don’t get their news from CNN, which has a sordid history as being a mouth piece of the military industrial complex and CIA war mongering,

I didn’t vote for Trump but you need to get your news from actually journalists. CNN is not reputable.

I think we can tell most don't get their news from news channels. Hence the mess we are all in

Oh, interesting. I'm not a huge CNN fan myself. What sources do you recommend?

I think some get their news from tictok and YouTube because there you will find 'actually journalists' not those pld fashioned news channels like CNN and BBC 😂🙄

I agree with the other poster, no wonder why people get confused. No wonder people believe Trump's claim that Ukraine started the war even though Russia invaded. 🙄

It's a sad state of affairs but here we are in the world of 'alternative facts' where a fact is whatever Trump and his cultists say it is.

It's funny how those posters who decry mainstream media almost never come back to explain their alternative news sources.

There are actually some very good alternative sources these days, now that a lot of mainstream news is being muzzled (see CNN giving Scott Jennings a big pay rise and forcing Jim Acosta to quit, Bezos's new WaPo editorial policy, etc.) but they tend to not be the ones these posters are referring to. They do not include right wing influencers, peddlers of alternative facts or Russell Brand.

I’m going to keep on posting this video because I think it sums everything up so well.

Most people don’t care about politics
Most people are not watching news programmes/channels avidly
Most people are getting their news from social media, that’s one of the reasons why Trump did so well - <30 second sound bites break through, long form interviews do not.

I’m not saying this is the way things should be, but it is the way things are.

I think it's the biggest problem we face as a society. I'm not sure how we go back.

Yes, a country can go bankrupt—a few EU countries nearly did in 2009, which threatened to bring down all of the other countries using the Euro as their currency.

The US can go bankrupt if all of the bonds they’ve sold (mostly to China, BTW) come due and they can’t pay up.

As T-Bills are denominated in USD they can always pay up. Just print the money.

Serpentstooth · 08/03/2025 13:29

Yes, print the money, why not? Anyone got access to photos of pre ww2 Germany and people wheeling prams full of banknotes to the bakers in hope of a loaf of bread ?

CNN has excellent Journalists. I suppose you think that the highly respected Christiane Amanpour, is a mouthpeace for the CIA. Your comment is rubbish!

Utter rubbish. CNN is a reputable news source.

The problem is that elsewhere, in the 'non-legacy media', which means YouTube, Meta, TikTok or X, the news is spread by influencers. There's a reason they're called that - if you didn't trust established journalists in mainstream papers and broadcasters, why would you trust more anyone with a loud voice and a following? No chance they might serve an agenda perhaps? I subscribe to a number of podcasts created by journalists and former politicians on YouTube so I'm not against the new media landscape per se, but I am very worried that the very notion of journalism which traditionally rested on the notion of ethics and integrity has gone out of the window in favour of 'straight-talking' BS (read: simplistic, manipulative, loud, conspiratorial, click-baity shite)... which more often than not is financed by shady interests without any transparency or accountability. So, if you thought CNN was bad, I'd suggest you stay away from any form of 'news' entirely.

NotTerfNorCis · 10/03/2025 07:51

Randos on social media can't be trusted with news. They have no obligation to provide evidence or fact check, and a lot are saying things for attention, or to push an agenda. The eventual result is that no one can believe anything.

StandFirm · 10/03/2025 08:01

...yes and may of them are actively lying!
The populists' playbook is always to make us believe the existing order is so bad that any alternative is better- and in doing so, to get us to give up everything good we still had. Democracy is flawed? Get rid of it entirely because a dictatorship with zero human rights will defend the most vulnerable better! Cost of living is bad? So destroy the economic order wholesale! And so on... it's absurd and yet it seems to be working.

Yes, and it's turned out recently that an entire right wing social media company was funded by Russian money.

Right-wing influencers say they were dupes in an alleged Russian influence operation. They’re keeping their millions, for now | CNN Business

Where did the money go? The right-wing social media stars who were allegedly paid millions in a nefarious Russian influence operation are remaining mum.

There are good established journalists podcasting on social media e.g The News Agents, Electoral Dysfunction, Newscast and several others. I do agree there is a lot of (sometimes dangerous) rubbish out there too though.
