  1. CNN now, poll shows majority of Americans disapprove of Trump.
  1. Commentator stated that Trump spoke about his several conversations with Putin and alarm bells ring, because Trump is parroting what Putin says. No independent thoughts?
  1. He comes over as having memory problems. He forgets what he said earlier.
  1. He needs help running press conferences and appears unable to manage without support.

Is he ill?

It's very odd.

Oh, how you misunderstand and underestimate us if you think we don’t know the power of a buffoon. A crocodile in the guise of a buffoon. Few brain cells but fully focused on what benefits him and him only. It’s the biggest con in history that he’s managed to pull off a scenario where working class blue collar people believe a convicted felon of a daddy’s money billionaire gives a shiny shit about them. I genuinely feel sorry for them. Because as their Medicaid disappears, and their jobs disappear, and their subsidized housing programs disappear, and Social Security is a thing of the past, and homeless services are remembered fondly, then unfortunately, there will be far too many other issues for anybody to be able to do anything about it at that stage.

And meanwhile, they bleat on about how we don’t understand them, how Democrats don’t understand them. How they’re tired of the ‘woke,’ when the biggest misunderstanding is the one that happens when they look in the mirror and see a person Trump wouldn’t piss on if they were on fire.

Edited

This is not what OP said at all, which is what I was replying to.

OP evidently doesn’t know the power of the buffoon if they’re making silly comments about how he forgets and needs to be helped - like he has the mental faculty of Joe Biden - when that is very far from the case.

I'd agree with this completely.

But - Russians do support Putin.

I'm not sure we have any way of knowing what the Russians actually think. The elections in Russia are infamously thought to be rigged and of course he has his opponents killed (Navalny).

Of course, the population will be exposed to disinformation, the same disinformation that Trump spouts, "Ukraine shouldn't have started the war. Zelensky's a dictator." All that rubbish.

Sadly the last president was even more cognitively impaired which allowed Trump back in.

Oh give it a rest with the whataboutism. Its a lazy way for Trump supporters to try to distract from the fact they voted for a complete loser. Besides which, Biden stepped aside as he realised he had to and his VP stepped up in his place so any comments about him being old etc after that fact are redundant and non-news.

I get that Trump supporters just mobilise behind hating and bullying other people because that's all they've got, but the Biden being old comments are just boring and outdated now.

No previous president has dropped so far, and so swiftly, in the polls than Trump has. So maybe not as unreasonable as you think.

I think he knows it doesn't matter. There won't be another election for 4 years. The only polls that matter are elections, and hes shown loud and clear that he doesn't even care about the results of those unless he wins them. The GOP seem incapable of standing up to him and the Drmocrats are missing in action by the looks of it. Unless someone within the US Parliamentary system (and they would have to be Repubs) stops him he's there for at least 4 years, and who knows what happens after that.

Me too. My DD lives there. It’s a living nightmare for me watching this unfold.

Friends from several countries have offered to sponsor me for emigration. But I can't do that. My dh, mother, kids, and dgc are all here. Siblings and extended families on both sides. My life is here, my HEART is here, and I can't leave them.

Forgive me, please, for being American. Forgive those of us who cannot stop any of it. And God help us all.

On the plus side, if he changes the constitution to allow a 3rd term, there are a couple of former presidents the same age as him. Namely George Bush and Bill Clinton. Perhaps they fancy their chances. I doubt Barack Obama will despite being younger.

Trump can do many things, but he can’t change the Constitution unilaterally. Strong bipartisan support is necessary for that (two-thirds majorities in both houses) and 3/4 of states ratifying. It would never happen. Even many of Trump’s strongest supporters wouldn’t support this.

Wasn’t that “poll” simply conducted by CNN viewers phoning in? In which case it’s a self-selected set of people from a specific demographic, i.e. viewers of CNN, so it’s not representative of the population as a whole.

I read an article yesterday that pointed out he could simply refuse to leave office. It’s possible that the Supreme Court, as currently constituted, wouldn’t stop him doing that. Or he could declare a state of emergency for some reason and cancel the next election.

No, of course it wasn't.

If you click the hyperlink in the first paragraph of their article, you can see the data. It was conducted with a representative sample of the population, like any half-decent poll would.

CNN/SSRS is one of the better polls in the US, in terms of accuracy. The result of it is within the range of normal, properly conducted opinion polls at the moment. Some have him with slightly above zero net approval, some slightly below.

It is still a better approval rating than Trump had for most of his first term.

A CNN poll you say?

That's like saying The Guardian has published a poll showing most people love Keir Starmer

Always check who has carried out or paid for the poll.

Fair enough, that’s a properly conducted poll.

Either I’m misremembering something I saw online, or there was a separate phone-in poll.

I have a large group of American friends and acquaintances
90% are horrified by him
10% are rabid supporters (and not in the friends category)
they’re all way more religious and seem to live more rurally and are the rabid patriotic people that we see in the movies. Lots of god bless the usa and flag waving

Thing is, I think if the rest of the world (or rather the West) turn on Trump, then by implication, they might be seen to be turning on America. I think this might actually cause some rally around their president. Even from sensible Americans.
I don't think the tide will really turn unless Trump starts costing Americans real money and they are suffering financially because of him.

Wildflowers99 · 04/03/2025 07:40

He’s just announced he’s not only stopping all aid to Ukraine, but has instructed the aid already on the way and nearly there to turn back.

Despicable piece of shit.

BeardofHagrid · 04/03/2025 07:41

Turmp is being absolutely ridiculous and so selfish. There’s no reason the USA can’t donate its entire GDP to DUkraine for a couple of years. 🙄

Catsandcheese · 04/03/2025 07:56

I wonder if the show of European strength at the weekend has him more annoyed than ever.
There is some hope that the Senate might turn blue in the 2026 elections so a vote to impeach at the right time could succeed then, but realistically we have to wait 4 years for a new election.
I think the tariffs will hurt the American people more as China and Canada have responded by adding tariffs to the US now.
Isolationism now in a global economy will not work for them.
He is a horror story, that just keeps getting worse, using the Ukraine-Russia war for his own political gain is horrifying.

Remember Jan 6th? People died. There was a noose erected. To hang Trumps VP because he displeased Trump. All because Trump didn't want to lose.

Those rioters were foaming at the mouth. Trump let it happen. I still shudder, genuinely, at what would have happened to Nancy Pelosi and AOC if they'd not managed to hide as well as they did. Objectively, what do you think would have happened if those women hadn't hidden as well as they did? The hate those supporters had for them.

Those rioters have now been pardoned.

Make no mistake, Trump has the keys to the castle now and he's destroying it from the inside so he can keep it, so voters can't take it from him again. It's so dangerous. Especially as the GOP seem to have no spine whatsoever and it's seemingly transparent that Trump is only acting in Putin's interests anyway.

theressomanytinafeysicouldbe · 04/03/2025 08:10

Donald Trump was killed off and it's not trump, it is a clone produced by Elon Musk in collaboration with Putin ......well stranger things have happened

Seriously why do they keep putting these really old men in charge, surely the run up to this farce election was an indicator of his mental state

Sooverwork · 04/03/2025 08:14

I’m surprised that anyone here thinks that Trump or his MAGA followers care about CNN polls / EU opinion / Zelensky opinion/ anyone else. It’s the honeymoon of his presidency and given the man is a complete sociopath I doubt the USA will have elections in 4 years .

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 04/03/2025 08:14

I fear that we have a New World Order. It’s frightening to see how everything can change so quickly.
The US (or Mr Tango, his side kick and Mr M ) will bring the country to its knees in time. Economically, politically etc.

The problem will come when it’s considered ‘ normal’ for his actions to continue. People are speaking out for now, but how long will that last?

Agree. I think he expected more simpering, or for the European countries to distance themselves a bit. Not all meet up in London without him and go straight into action. Shows the difference in leadership quality doesn’t it. I think this week is the first time I’ve been proud to be British.

That’s not what allowed Trump back in. People with standards low enough to vote for a convicted sexual abuser and felon are what allowed him back in.

And the previous President’s cognitive impairment didn’t make him cosy up with Russia and blame Ukraine for having been invaded.
