What tights would you assume are allowed with this uniform?

State primary school (my DD is in reception). Uniform policy makes no mention of the colour tights have to be.

Uniform is: black trousers/skirt, white polo top, royal blue jumper.

The uniform section of the local supermarket sells the following colours of tights: red, dark green, white, grey, navy blue, black.

Now I wouldn’t have chosen red or green, but frankly I think all the other colours would be passably smart in the absence of any indication in the uniform policy, but we’ve just been informed our daughter has been wearing the “wrong colour tights” for the last 4 months 🙄🙄 so now I’m wondering if I’m a total eejit for choosing the colour I chose, and if it’s totally obvious they wouldn’t allow it...

So, out of grey, white, black and navy blue, in the absence of any indication in the uniform policy which colour(s) would you assume were acceptable for a pupil at this school?

Black or grey

AperolWhore · 24/02/2025 18:27

I would guess black or grey?

Merryoldgoat · 24/02/2025 18:28

Black. Although why they care about the colour of tights is beyond me.

TruJay · 24/02/2025 18:28

Black or grey

GettingOlderandBetter · 24/02/2025 18:28

I would say black or grey although one of our local primaries has no issue with green to match the jumpers.

Merryoldgoat · 24/02/2025 18:29

However I’d not choose any of the other colours either.

Icanttakethisanymore · 24/02/2025 18:29

Who cares? They didn’t say, you made a choice. If it’s an issue they should be explicit; this isn’t on you OP.

TheChosenTwo · 24/02/2025 18:29

Navy, black or grey? Some schools near us have white tights which just look dreadful after a few washes and tumbles on the playground!
I guess if there was no mention of it in the uniform policy then any tights go really but I’d have gone with black or navy with the uniform you’ve stated.
also, if it’s not on the policy then you haven’t really been getting it wrong!

Dithercats · 24/02/2025 18:29

Black or royal blue....as hard to find I'd use navy only if black unavailable.
Not white.

Alwaystired2023 · 24/02/2025 18:30

Grey, white or black? Also can't believe they care about the colour of tights for a 4/5 year old

Needmorelego · 24/02/2025 18:30

Does the uniform list say a sock colour?
Because I'd assume the same as that.

mindutopia · 24/02/2025 18:30

I’d always assume black or grey as that is the standard, but I’d clarify or see what everyone else was wearing.

Flibberti · 24/02/2025 18:30

I would have said white! But can see that all pp have not said white. But imo white is the smartest! X

Blarn · 24/02/2025 18:30

Black or grey too. Navy or bottle green jumper might have navy or blue tights but unless it states that I'd choose black or grey.

hyggetyggedotorg · 24/02/2025 18:31

I would say black. But white would match the polo shirts so maybe that.

Not that I can see how it matters for 5 year olds!

Needanewnameidea · 24/02/2025 18:31

White, black or grey. Not navy blue with a black skirt. I’d probably go for whatever the other kids were all wearing.

But I’d also expect them to specify in the policy, if not I’d assume any “normal” colour was acceptable and therefore any of your choices were fine.

Serencwtch · 24/02/2025 18:31

Ours is similar colour uniform & plain white socks/tights.

Ablondiebutagoody · 24/02/2025 18:31

Black

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 24/02/2025 18:31

Black

mynameiscalypso · 24/02/2025 18:32

I'd probably have gone for grey myself

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 24/02/2025 18:32

Black x

Gotabadfeelingaboutthis · 24/02/2025 18:32

Black or dark grey

MumChp · 24/02/2025 18:33

Black but in doubt I would have asked.

TabloidFootprints · 24/02/2025 18:33

Black

Hoardasurass · 24/02/2025 18:33

Black or blue only because the jumpers are blue otherwise I'd say black only as that matches the skirt and trousers colour
